Danilo
"Não viemos a Miami para você ficar entudo no escritório o dia todo! O que aconteceu com a nossa noite de pizza? Pedimos junk food e você sabe como Pai é sobre isso? Ele teria um derrame se soubesse," Daniele complained through the speaker with Benecio being his hype man in the background. (Portuguese: We didn't come to Miami for you to be holed up in the office all day! What happened about our pizza night? We ordered junk food and you know how Pai is about that? He will have a stroke if he knew!"
I ran my fingers through my hair as I leaned back in my ridiculously uncomfortable chair. If Miley thought a near gamer chair was her definition of comfortable then she had a sick sense of it.
Yet she was the size of a calf therefore I guessed she did not understand what large men needed.
"Eu não sabia que eles iriam bagunçar Daniele. Sinto muito, mas a noite da pizza sempre pode vir de novo. Uma grande inauguração é uma vez e o pai decidiu vir." I tried to explain as I swiveled my chair for me to look outside. It was nearing night and the finishes of the sunset was still prominent in the sky despite the darkening. I felt like I had just scratched into the surface of what was needed for the opening and I felt a pending doom. (Portuguese: I didn't know they would mess up Daniele. I'm sorry but pizza night can always come again. A grand opening is once and Pa decided to come.)
Benecio sucked on his teeth before smacking his lips together, "Stay where you are then! But the day you want a pizza night I'll choose to become gluten free."
"You can get a cauliflower pizza then," I chuckled.
"Don't patronize us!" He snapped, "you're a terrible big brother. Always working. You promised us parties and bikinis."
"Is that what you've been doing in Miami?" I raised my eyebrows even though I knew he could not see me, "because that will explain why your marks were so low last year."
His silence confirmed my hypothesis but he always had an explanation for it. "Do you think with all the concussions I done get from football that I can think proper? It's a long story. My brain switches off sometimes. You know it got an on and off switch. You gotta hit it. I've tried but it's always off no matter how hard. Complete darkness."
"And what kind of financial advisor you gon be when you don't even know basic math!" Daniele burst out laughing.
"Our Pai's the richest man. Just my surname will make them trust me with their companies," he retorted, "anyway! We gon watch our western movies without you and we'll tell you all the spoilers!"
Before I could even answer they ended the call leaving my head spinning. Daniele had just as much work as I did since he was working at Pereira enterprise in the technical department. He was in charge of our latest robotic designs as well as the electric cars for some of the top car brands in the world.
Yet he always pretended like I was a workaholic. Once he was on his computer with his ones and zeros a person was not even meant to talk around him.
It sucked that I was holed up in the office. I would not lie but I barely had a competent enough team to deal with anything other than making sure the bathrooms had toilet paper.
I could stare out the window all I wanted but it wasn't going to get the work done. I had sent Miley home because she looked exhausted. She had been here a week before me and even though she tried to hold it down as best as she could, it was a big project even for her.
With a quick crack of my knuckles I focused all my attention on my computer screen. The hours went by with me constantly going down to the design house to recheck with Stephanie then heading back up.
Different fabrics were coming into my office for me to pick from and once myself and the designers had a good basic silhouette from the stitchers downstairs we decided to call it a night.
It was nearing 3am and it was only when I was leaving that I realized it had been raining. Most of the staff were gone by then leaving the parking relatively empty besides a few odd cars here and there. I had forgotten I had asked security to take my car out front for me therefore I went back up to the ground floor which was also partly the entrance of the store.
I checked up on things again because my subconscious would not let me sleep if I didn't. With quick notes and pictures for me to think about in the morning I headed out.
The streets were relatively quiet considering it was Wednesday with a few odd cars passing here and there. I let out a sigh as I climbed down the stairs but abruptly stopped when I heard a thud and what sounded like a small scream.
I spotted a black blob on the floor before whoever it was sat up as they held their ankle. They let out a loud curse to the sky before wobbly trying to stand up again but ended up falling down once again when they tried to apply pressure to their feet.
Even though I knew I was exhausted I was never the type to ignore wounded animals. One of my bodyguards came out quickly to hand me an umbrella which I was thankful for as my clothes started to get soaked.
With quick footsteps I approached the mysterious figure and let out a chuckle when I saw it was the same boy from before. I was pretty sure he was crying by his red rimmed eyes but with the rain falling over his face it was hard to tell.
