Chapter 15 - Cats, Dogs, Humans and Worms

Danilo

"And are you mad!"

"I don't need you pestering me so early in the morning!" I snapped before I stabbed into my octopus shaped cut sausages. "You've been on my neck the entire morning! You should just be grateful I made it for breakfast."

"There's protocol for a reason. That includes not helping strangers! What if he just so happened to slip when you saw him? Then he knew he was leading you somewhere and we would get your body parts chopped up in a present box."

"Daniele you're being ridiculous," I laughed loudly, nearly falling off my seat.

"You really are," Benecio sipped on his coffee before reading his morning economic newspaper. Apparently he had already subscribed for it to be delivered to him every morning even though he had only been here for a day. It was the few times he actually looked more intelligent when we all knew that was in high questioning. "I think they would have delivered him to us in a truck. There's no way his body could fit in a box."

"If you saw him you'd understand why I didn't see him as a threat and Pa would be proud to know I helped."

"This is why we have guards," Daniele stressed, "you could have asked one of them to take him home. Less risk and the same good deed."

I shook my head, "he was too shaky and he looked afraid I was even around him. I didn't want to scare him off."

"It's like you forget you are the son of the world's richest man," Daniele shook his head, "just going around helping stray anything. Cats, dogs, humans and worms. Are you aiming for a nobel prize?"

Daniele and Benecio looked at each other before letting out a sigh. They seemed done with me and even after interrogating me the entire morning about it they looked about ready for round two.

"We should get going," I stood up, "we wouldn't want you to be late for school."

Benecio blinked, "school isn't starting for another week."

"Well you have orientation," I sighed, "what are you now? A sophomore. Doesn't mean you can start slacking now. We wouldn't be good older brothers if we didn't drop you off."

His deep frown told me didn't want to be there at all; yet he seemed to weigh out his options. He knew when to pick his battles and this was definitely not one of them. "Very well. Let me go get changed," he said with a groan before he peeled himself off the informal dining table then marched upstairs.

"Something tells me he wasn't planning on going," I laughed as Daniele shoved a piece of toast in his mouth.

He shook his head as he chewed quickly. "Apparently Molly is going to be there and his heart can't bear seeing her knowing that he can't have her."

We both let out a snicker and continued on with our breakfast until Benecio came back. His dress code was just as unique as all of us. He wore cowboy boots, faded denim jeans, a cropped football jersey and a cowboy hat. It was his signature look and I believed it was the reason a hoard of girls were always following him.

Eight pack abs were deeply engraved in our genetics. Except Bunky for now. He just had a round stomach full of milk but in the future I had no doubt.

We all hopped into my truck and were on our way to the university. From the moment I parked a hoard of footballers who were already waiting around to see which car Benecio would arrive in, looked around eagerly. He was football royalty here and in a university city, that meant you were practically a god to them.

"We'll send one of the drivers-" before I could even finish my sentence he was out of the truck with his backpack and a loud cheer erupted from the crowd. Cameras flashed everywhere and even the Dean was there to personally greet him.

He had gotten a scholarship here last year and went back and forth between it and Houston. I believed his motivation for picking Miami full time was mostly the women but we all had our reasons for going to different corners of the earth.

"I'm sure they're hoping Pai will write a mighty check for their stadium," Daniele joked as we drove away.

"Pa keeps Pai's money on such a tight leash they gon have to do some great convincing for that to happen." I shook my head with a smile. "Drop you off at home?"

"Hmm," he nodded. "I have to start the new programming for the new phone Pai is launching in a few months. He rejected the last one."

"I don't know if I'll be home tonight either. If things go well I'll be back for dinner if not-"

"I'll send food over," he waved his hand dismissively.

We arrived back at the house in no time and once Daniele was set I was on my way to the office. I parked in my private parking lot this time before grabbing all my belongings and rushing out to the elevator. I was an hour late but I was sure after almost spending the entire night here I had made up for it.

Even though I knew I shouldn't, I decided to stop by the stitchers floor. I kept my head low and since most of the room was glass I knew I had to be extremely careful. It was a flurry of designers running up and down with models lined up.

Each had a stitcher attending to them in the line up except for one. Three models stood around a desk as a boy with dark hair swirled and moved around with a wheelie chair. He had fabrics draped over his shoulders and by the bandage on his foot and crutches leaned against his table I knew instantly who it was.

Dove.

The boy who seemed unstable on his feet but despite leaving last at the office this morning seemed to be the only one who had a fresh morning look.
