Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Not-So-Reliable Transmigration

"Ah!"

Bai Yi exclaimed loudly, suddenly throwing back the covers and sitting up in bed.

The ceiling was still familiar, a neatly placed desk was in the corner at the front left of the bed, a bookshelf filled with various textbooks and exercise books was on the wall beside it, and a window directly faced the desk with curtains tightly drawn, trying hard to block the midday sunshine.

On the other side of the desk was a cabinet, displaying some cute, slightly old-fashioned dolls and a Lego house.

On the opposite wall of the desk, on the other side of the bed, was a brown wooden door next to a wooden wardrobe, split in two halves with four drawers on the bottom.

This was undeniably her room.

Squinting her still sleepy eyes, looking at the silver-white hair hanging down from her shoulders, Bai Yi stretched her arms high with a lazy yawn.

Feeling the slight chill from the air conditioner, Bai Yi shivered and plopped back down, wrapping herself tightly in the covers.

As a senior high school student preparing for the college entrance examination, she rarely slept this late.

But yesterday, she had just experienced a huge turning point in her life, and everything that happened was indeed a great shock to her.

Her name was Bai Yi, a common, ordinary senior high school student preparing for the college entrance examination and a part-time internet addict girl before yesterday.

She was just the type whose skills were questionable—not wanting to mention those requiring operational skills like action shooting games, even in ordinary simulation management, she'd have to restart her saves several times—a noob who loved to play.

Yesterday was a rare day off, coinciding with her 18th birthday. She had thought it would end with a simple cake at home and a simple birthday celebration, but everything that happened felt like living in a dream.

Yesterday, just as she left the school gate, she was intercepted by her parents and blocked in the car. Both of them had serious expressions and said they needed to confess something to her.

At that moment, her whole being became uneasy, and her mind spun wildly, recalling various plots from novels and movies.

Did her parents divorce? Would she have divorced parents?

Or was she not their biological child? Just an adopted daughter?

Or maybe her dad's business went wrong? Was he going bankrupt?

...

But in the end, the reality did develop like a novel, but it wasn't as she had thought, instead, it went direct into a mindless pleasure narrative.

Her family was actually very wealthy, owning several companies, and worth billions!

Her parents had been acting like an ordinary family all this time just for the family tradition, to allow the heir to experience the hardships of ordinary people's homes, and not to forget their roots!

And she was the only heir of the Bai Family in this generation!

That short conversation directly fried Bai Yi's CPU.

It wasn't until a birthday banquet that invited many company executives, business partners, and government officials, with greetings from many strangers, that Bai Yi accepted this fact.

After returning home, she was like in a dream, her mind filled with fluttering thoughts, rolling on the bed for a long time before falling asleep.

Returning to her senses from recollection, Bai Yi grabbed the phone by her bed, and deftly unlocked the screen.

There had already been a message popping up, sent from her dad:

"Yi, the driver is already waiting downstairs, you can come directly whenever you wake up. Mom and Dad are waiting for you in the new house."

"You don't need to pack anything, someone will move everything for you later."

Attached was a picture of a grey five-seater sedan that Bai Yi didn't recognize.

She shifted her gaze from the phone to the coat rack by the door, where a dress she wore yesterday, which had been lying in her shopping cart for a year, still hung.

It seemed that everything from yesterday wasn't a dream.

Rubbing her slightly squinted eyes, she brushed aside the white strands sticking to her face, gently patted her cheeks, and rubbed them, feeling the softness in her hands.

"So soft!"

Narcissistically indulging in self-admiration for a moment, Bai Yi then moved herself to the edge of the bed, stretched out her pale legs, and slipped on a pair of panda-headed slippers under the bed.

She shuffled her feet to the desk and pulled open the curtains, letting the bright midday light spill into the room, causing Bai Yi to squint her eyes unconsciously.

Adjusting to the brightness, Bai Yi then braced herself on the desk, leaning on the window to look downstairs, and sure enough, there was a grey car parked downstairs at the rental house, just like in the photo her dad sent.

"I used to dream of living a leisurely life of goofing around, didn't expect it to actually come true!"

Thinking about her future easy life of taking it easy, Bai Yi couldn't help but feel cheerful, jumping up and down with her messy pajamas and loose hair to the bathroom.

The bathroom wasn't very big inside, to the right upon entering was a low sink, just the right height for Bai Yi to use.

On the wall to the left of the sink was a full-length mirror, and on the opposite wall, about 1.8 meters high, was a shelf with hooks underneath holding three towels in red, green, and blue.

The mirror currently reflected her appearance:

Wearing a loose brown and white spotted pajama top, the hem draped down to her thighs, with no trace of pajama bottoms, exposing her slender, snow-white long legs.

A head of somewhat messy waist-length white hair, a slightly tender face, and equally tender height, and of course, a tender physique...

With a height barely reaching 1.6 meters, she looked like a little girl who had just entered junior high school when walking outside.

Looking at herself in the mirror, Bai Yi placed her hands on her chest and sighed slightly.

"Sigh, why didn't I inherit mom's figure? Did the genetic mutation change that too?"

Bai Yi's white hair was natural, just like her azure eyes, reportedly caused by a genetic mutation.

As a child, she faced quite a bit of discrimination and exclusion because of it, even starting to suspect whether she was truly her parents' child, it wasn't until her dad presented a paternity test that she dismissed her doubts.

She shook her head, making her hair flutter about, tossing away the chaotic thoughts in her heart, and then grabbed the cup and toothbrush to start freshening up.

After more than half an hour, standing in front of the rental house door, Bai Yi had restored her usual look:

She wore a standard blue and white sailor suit, paired with a pleated skirt of the same color reaching her knees, her hair neatly brushed and cascading down her back, with a deep blue wide-brimmed sunhat.

She turned back with a deep look at the rental house where she had lived since she was young, various emotions stirred in Bai Yi's heart.

"If there's nothing much happening, I probably won't come back in the future."

Looking at the once cozy and familiar small home, Bai Yi felt a surge of emotion for a moment.

Turning and walking down the stairs, the driver had been waiting for a long time. Seeing Bai Yi appear, he immediately got out of the car to help Bai Yi open the backseat door.

"Miss Bai, please come in."

The driver's voice echoed in her ears, with the slightly overwhelming rich fragrance wafting from the car, everything felt so real.

"It's all real…"

The driver heard Bai Yi muttering to herself in surprise, then piled on a smile again:

"Of course, it is, Miss."

Bai Yi closed her eyes, took a deep breath of the fragrance, which made her a bit nauseous.

"How great, even if the world were to end now, I'd be content…"

Boom!

A loud buzzing swept violently over, startling Bai Yi to jerk open her eyes.

But she only squinted through a slit, saw a sky full of crimson and a collapsing world, and her eyes rolled back.

Finally, a short syllable escaped her lips, and she completely lost consciousness:

"Shit!"
