I woke up slowly, the way you do when sleep still clings to your limbs, warm and heavy, reluctant to let you go.
The sun had shifted in the sky since I had dozed off, golden light filtering lazily through the dense canopy of the ancient tree above me, dappling the grass in strange, moving patterns as the branches swayed gently in the breeze.
My back ached slightly from lying against the uneven ground for so long, but the cool shade had been comfortable enough that my body had ignored it until now.
I stretched my arms over my head, bones popping as I tried to shake off the lingering grogginess, blinking up at the swaying leaves, still caught between dreaming and waking.
And then I remembered.
Not just the fact that I had fallen asleep outside, but what I had been dreaming about.
