Cassiel closed the distance himself, reaching for Angelus's collar, ready to steal back control but Angelus caught his wrist, unyieldingly. He froze.

The prince leaned in again, whispering against his lips, "You forget, wildflower."

His grip on Cassiel's wrist tightened, just enough to make him shiver.

"I can play too."

Cassiel swallowed hard. He had always been good at reading people. It was a skill that came naturally; watching, observing, and picking apart the slightest shifts in expression.

Earlier that day, during their walk at the garden, he had seen it, jealousy in Davon.

It had been a fleeting thing, just a twinkle in Davon's sharp eyes, the faintest tightening of his jaw but it had been there.

Cassiel had been standing close to Angelus, teasing him as usual, pressing into his space just to see that lovely frustration bloom in his green eyes.

And when he had glanced toward Davon, expecting the usual indifference, he had caught something else entirely.
