Subedei lifted the goblet Jesper had given him, the deep red wine swirling as he took a slow sip. The rich, dark taste coated his tongue, warm and intoxicating.
He swallowed, setting the cup down, but his throat remained dry for reasons that had nothing to do with the drink.
Jesper was watching him, his own cup held loosely between his fingers, eyes dark with something unspoken.
The candle light flickered between them, casting golden shadows over Jesper's sharp cheekbones, the curve of his lips, the faint rise and fall of his chest.
Subedei couldn't look away. He was captivated by the sight infront of him.
Jesper took a sip of his wine, his throat working as he swallowed. Then, he slowly set his goblet aside without breaking eye contact.
Subedei felt the tension between them thicken, pressing against his ribs, his lungs, his very breath. He should speak, should say something to break the silence, to keep this from tipping into something dangerous but then Jesper moved.
