At that moment, just before the villain's strike could land, a barrage of razor-sharp red feathers tore through the air, slamming into his body and knocking him back. Lady Nagant seized the opening, raising her rifle and firing a single shot straight into his chest.
Blood exploded from the impact, splattering across the floor. His body was riddled with wounds—deep cuts, gaping holes, and seared flesh from consecutive attacks. And yet, despite the carnage, he still smirked.
A chill ran down Raiden's spine. The sight triggered a memory—her, the woman from the hotel. And suddenly, it all made sense. If they had perfected the prototype of that drug, then of course, they wouldn't let such a broken ability as regeneration go to waste.
This wasn't just a battle—it was a test. And Raiden refused to lose.
The moment the villain made the slightest movement, Raiden began charging his strongest attack. Adrenaline surged through his veins, heightening his senses. At the same time, he activated Calm Mind and Agility twice more, his focus sharpening to its absolute limit.
Energy crackled in his palms. The usual yellow glow deepened into an overcharged purple. The other three heroes widened their eyes in shock.
They knew this attack. It was sheer destruction—far beyond what should have been necessary. Why was he doing this? The villain was already on the ground.
Then, in the next instant, the villain moved.
Despite his body being on the verge of collapse, he forced himself to stand with a single, staggering leap. He nearly fell from the pain, but what he did next left everyone frozen.
He crossed his arms, and a soft green light spread across his body.
Instantly, his wounds closed. Torn flesh regenerated. The damage reversed at an impossible speed.
Raiden's breath caught in his throat. Not because he was healing—but because this looked and felt similar to Life Dew… only stronger.
Panic surged through him. There was no time to think—no time to let this drag on any longer.
He fired.
Hyper Beam.
A devastating beam of light erupted from his hands, engulfing the villain completely. The sheer force tore through the battlefield, obliterating everything in its path. The impact shattered the building's walls, the energy carving through concrete and steel like paper. The blast didn't stop there—it surged across the street, tearing a massive hole clean through another building in the distance.
Silence followed. Dust and debris settled. And Raiden stood there, breathing heavily, staring at the aftermath of his own power.
The impact left everyone momentarily stunned, even those on the lower floors and the special forces stationed nearby. No one had expected the fight to shift to an entirely new location.
"What the hell are you doing?!" Kaina yelled, frustration lacing her voice. They were supposed to contain the villain and minimize collateral damage—not escalate the destruction.
"He's toying with us," Raiden replied mentally, his voice firm. "If we don't fight to kill, we might not even get the chance to capture him. We can't afford to hold back."
Apart from Raiden and a few others, no one truly understood the nightmare that came with facing a regeneration ability like the ones from the hotel. They had only read about it in files—but he had lived through it.
There had been a moment back then when he thought he wouldn't make it out alive, and now if they mixed it with Raiden own abilities...
Raiden shuddered at the thought of the enemy just kept coming.
This villain wasn't just strong—he was built to outlast them. Even with two of the most capable pro heroes in the fight—Hawks, the current No. 2, and Kaina, who, despite not being officially ranked, was undoubtedly among the top three—they still couldn't take him down immediately.
It was all because of his defense, endurance and strength, so he better showed how strong the enemy was.
A heavy silence settled over the battlefield as everyone turned toward the destroyed building.
Then, from within the gaping hole blasted into the structure, the sound of slow, deliberate footsteps echoed. Dust swirled in the air, and after a moment, the villain emerged from the wreckage.
But something was missing.
His entire two lefts arm and part of his leg were gone, along with part of his face. Yet, despite the gruesome injuries, the remaining portion of his mouth curled into a twisted grin.
Then, without warning, something horrifying happened.
From the gaping wounds on his body, new limbs began to grow.
But they weren't human.
The fresh appendages were nothing like the ones he had lost. Instead of a normal arm and leg, two long, writhing tentacles extended from his shoulder and hip—one deep red, the other a pale, sickly green. Their tips ended in sharp, pointed ends, twitching as if adjusting to their new form.
The heroes weren't the only ones shocked. The villain himself glanced at his newly regenerated limbs, flexing them experimentally with an amused expression.
"Huh," he muttered, tilting his head. "That attack destabilized my body even faster." Then, his grin widened, eyes locking onto Raiden.
"I knew you had potential, kid," he said with a chuckle. "You should had join us, maybe that way my luck could have been better."
He extended his offer once more—like this was all just a game to him.
"To be a test subject? No, thanks," Raiden shot back without hesitation.
Without wasting another second, he launched himself toward the villain, clapping his hands together. In an instant, five massive stone pillars materialized in the air behind his opponent and shot forward, hurtling toward the villain's back with crushing force.
The villain reacted instantly. His leg glowed faintly as he struck out in rapid succession, each kick shattering a stone into countless fragments. The force of the impact sent debris flying, slamming into the surrounding buildings. Chunks of rock drilled into the concrete walls before vanishing into dust, as if they had never been there at all.
At the center of the destruction, the villain remained completely unfazed. He flexed his hands, shaking them out as if trying to rid them of numbness. It made no sense—he had only used his legs to counter the attack, yet he acted as though his hands had absorbed the force, it was obvios it was just to mock Raiden.
Then, without warning, he moved.
He ignored Raiden, Tamaki, and Lady Nagant entirely, his focus locking onto Hawks.
In a blur of motion, he lunged at the pro hero. His glowing hand struck out, landing a devastating blow that dug three inches deep into Hawks' defense. The winged hero barely managed to shield himself, crossing his feathers in front of him just in time. But the sheer impact sent him flying backward, blasting him through multiple walls before launching him clean out of the building.
The villain wasted no time. He shot forward, following Hawks with relentless speed, separating him from the rest of the team.
Raiden and the others immediately tried to pursue, but the villain moved too fast. Within seconds, he and Hawks were locked in a furious aerial battle, darting between the upper floors of the surrounding buildings, their clash leaving a path of destruction in its wake.
Hawks pushed himself to his absolute limit. He used his feathers both offensively and defensively—slicing at the villain while shielding his body from incoming strikes. But he was losing ground.
This enemy was too strong.
He had to find a way to lead the fight back to the others. If he kept fighting alone, it was only a matter of time before he fell. But the villain wasn't letting him go. Blow after blow, he kept pressing forward, wearing Hawks down.
And then, the real danger became clear—Hawks was losing feathers.
His Quirk depended on them to move, to attack, to defend. But the villain was breaking them, piece by piece. His margin for error was shrinking.
As they exchanged another brutal series of blows, the villain's limbs began to glow again. The next hit came faster, heavier. Hawks barely managed to block, but the moment he did, searing pain shot through his arms and wings.
Then, a sickening crack echoed through the air.
The force of the attack sent him hurtling downward, crashing into the street below.
"One down," Edward muttered as he watched Hawks' fallen figure from atop the building.
Just as the words left his mouth, a bullet struck his chest. The impact sent him staggering, forcing him to one knee.
"And there's the second," a twisted smile spread across his disfigured face—at least, that's what it looked like.
Without hesitation, he leaped toward Kaina's position. She wasn't as fast as Hawks, but her experience made up for any shortcomings. The moment Edward closed in, she reacted instantly, dodging sideways just before he reached her.
But what he found waiting for him wasn't Kaina.
It was Raiden and Tamaki, already launching a coordinated counterattack.
Tamaki's Quirk activated in an instant, forming thick, armored tentacles that wrapped around Edward, locking him in place. At the same time, Raiden gathered energy in his palms, the air around him crackling with raw power as he charged up another Hyper Beam.
The glow intensified, the energy rippling outward before he unleashed it. The massive beam tore through the space between them, engulfing Edward in a blinding explosion of light.
Tamaki braced himself, feeling the residual shockwave burn through his limbs. It hurt—but pain didn't matter. Even if he lost an arm or a leg, his Quirk would regenerate them. What mattered was stopping the villain.
The beam tore through the building, slamming Edward into the street with crushing force. The energy scorched the ground, leaving a molten trail as the ray of light carved through concrete and steel.
Then, the impact reached its peak and started drilling into the earth, creating a massive crater at the center of the battlefield. Raiden pushed his power to the limit—the attack should have ended by now, but he kept channeling more energy, forcing everything he had into it.
When he finally stopped, his breath came in ragged gasps, but he wasted no time. He used his abilities to reach Kaina, and together they descended into the crater.
Meanwhile, Tamaki rushed toward the spot where Hawks had fallen, ready to assist.
Standing at the edge of the pit, Raiden and Kaina braced themselves, scanning the darkness below. For a moment, everything was still. Then, a deep rumble echoed from within the hole.
A shadow shot past them at incredible speed, landing on the opposite side of the crater.
Edward.
Raiden had to admit—seeing him in this state was satisfying.
People always said revenge wasn't worth it—that it would leave you hollow, that once it was over, all you'd feel was emptiness.
But that wasn't true.
At least, not for Raiden.
What he felt now was a deep sense of accomplishment, like standing at the summit of a mountain after a grueling climb. He knew he hadn't done it alone, but his attacks had inflicted the most damage.
The same villain who had once left him in a coma was now on the brink of death—because of him. His efforts hadn't been in vain.
The villain's condition was awful. His chest bore deep, gaping wounds, his once-regenerated left limbs were gone again, and chunks of flesh had been torn from his legs. His right hand had been completely obliterated. His body was in shambles, barely clinging to life.
He no longer responded. His remaining eye was dull, hollow—devoid of any emotion or awareness.
Seeing him like this, Raiden couldn't help himself. He reached out mentally, his words laced with spite. "How do you feel? I doubt even a healing ability can save you now."
But there was no answer. The man's vacant stare didn't waver, didn't react.
Raiden and Kaina exchanged a glance before nodding in silent agreement. They stepped forward, closing in from both sides, ready to put an end to it.
Then, suddenly, Edward's body started to shake.
At that instant, Raiden's arm pulsed with light. His breath caught—he knew exactly what that meant.
The fight was over.
Every time he pushed past his limits and won a battle that should have been impossible, every time his opponent could no longer stand—he leveled up. And now, it had happened again.
A glowing "16" appeared on his arm, shining brightly against his skin.
In the past few months with Kaina, he had leveled up several times, each victory unlocking new strength. And now, at last, he had reached Level 16.
Then, just as before, a rush of knowledge flooded his mind—another technique, another ability.
Another weapon for the battles ahead.
