Chapter 49 - XLIX: Raid II

Once everyone was in position on the plane, they prepared to jump. Raiden and Tamaki were both ready to take flight, their bodies tensed with anticipation. Kaina, however, stood still with her eyes closed, facing the rear of the aircraft. Then, without warning, she spoke.

"We're here. Raiden, catch me."

Before anyone could react, she leaped out of the plane. The suddenness of it stunned the rest of the team—Raiden, Tamaki, and Hawks froze for only a split second before instinct kicked in. Without hesitation, they dove after her.

None of them had parachutes. They didn't need them. Gravity did its job, pulling them toward the city below, but with precise movements and controlled falls, they adjusted their descent using their Quirks.

Raiden felt an odd sense of ease as he plummeted through the sky. It wasn't the first time he had flown, but something about this moment was different. He was closing in on the man who had put him in a coma—the one responsible for setting everything in motion. Yet, there was no anxiety, no second-guessing. Instead, he felt… at peace.

It was the same kind of relief that came when a long-awaited holiday finally arrived, or the excitement of waking up on Christmas morning. It wasn't just anticipation; it was satisfaction. No matter how this ended, he was finally here. He was finally getting his revenge or maybe getting punched again, but whatever happened, it was finally going to fight that person.

As the massive building came into view, Raiden activated his abilities. A surge of energy coursed through him as he cast Calm Mind, Agility, and Laser Focus, sharpening his reflexes and amplifying his strength. He would need every ounce of power in the fight ahead.

This wasn't just about payback anymore. This organization had taken away his freedom. He and Tamaki shouldn't be here, risking their lives, not yet.

They should be in class, with their friends, living normal lives. Instead, they had been forced into hiding, stripped of their right to move freely.

As they neared the building, Raiden concentrated energy into his palm.

With a swift motion, he sent a pulse of force toward the glass, shattering the massive office window just seconds before Kaina would have crashed through it. She didn't react and let Raiden reach out to her, stopping her fall with a controlled burst of power.

The team landed inside the office with precision.

It was a spacious, high-end room—expensive wooden furniture, towering bookshelves, and statues placed with the kind of arrogance only wealth could justify. A massive couch sat against one wall, facing a massive flat-screen TV. The air smelled faintly of leather and polished wood.

But none of that mattered.

What mattered was the man standing before them.

Black hair. Crimson-red eyes. A smirk that oozed confidence, as if he had been expecting them all along.

"Well… someone really messed up," he said casually, his voice dripping with amusement. "Let me guess—it was August or Erika, wasn't it?" He let out a quiet chuckle. "I knew I couldn't trust them, well Isn't as I had much time."

He didn't look surprised.

He looked entertained.

The man's body began to shift. He shrank slightly, his height settling at around 1.7 meters. This was different from what Raiden and Hawks had seen last time—he was noticeably smaller, more slender than before.

His skin remained red, and he still had four arms, but this time, they were leaner, almost wiry. The lower pair had turned a faint green, and his eyes had changed as well—their outer edges now pitch black, contrasting sharply with his pupils.

"You look different. What did you inject yourself with this time?" Raiden spoke mentally, ensuring that everyone, including Edward, could hear him.

The man let out a sharp, unsettling laugh. "Hahahaha! Do you like it, kid? This is thanks to you and your little friend. It's the almost-finished product, manufactured just for me, sadly I'm not going to be able to enjoy it much, the old man tricked me a little." His voice was calmer than before—still laced with madness, but now carrying an eerie composure.

"So your boss finally finished it. Good for you," Raiden responded, his tone flat. His eyes began to glow, and he slowly lifted off the ground, floating weightlessly in the center of the room.

His expression was cold. Colder than it had ever been in any fight before. Around him, the others tensed, preparing for battle.

"Yes, he finished it!" The man grinned, flexing his arms. "At least, the prototype is done. We had to test it on someone, and who better than me? My Quirk makes my body stronger—I'm the ideal test subject. The others? They died. Their bodies couldn't handle the genetic modifications and the virus. But sadly I believe my body also wasn't enough, so all of you came in that precise moment to test my strength Hahaha!"

At his words, all four of them stiffened.

Kaina didn't waste a second. She reached for her intercom. "All units, initiate biological threat protocol. We might be dealing with an experimental virus."

The man threw his head back and laughed again. "Hahahaha! Relax. This only works on me. It's symbiotic, no parasitic even—it won't spread. Not without the rest of the compound."

"You're awfully chatty for someone giving away sensitive information," Raiden remarked.

"Ah, but what does it matter?" The man smirked. "Even if you know, nothing changes. It's just another drug. Does it matter if people know how ecstasy is made? No. It still sells. And just like that, this will always be on the market. Even if I'm gone, they'll keep making more."

As he spoke, he stretched his limbs, cracking his knuckles in preparation for the fight.

Kaina and Hawks didn't wait for more pointless talk. They launched their attacks immediately.

"Kids, attack first—ask questions later!" Hawks commanded.

His razor-sharp feathers and Kaina's bullets shot toward the villain at high speed. He raised his arms to defend himself, effortlessly deflecting Hawks' feathers. But Kaina's bullets tore into his flesh, leaving deep wounds.

And yet, he didn't even flinch.

Instead, he lunged at them without hesitation. His fist slammed into the ground, creating a crater and sending shards of debris flying in every direction. Then, with a swift roundhouse kick, he launched the rubble straight at the heroes, turning it into a deadly barrage that obscured their vision.

Raiden and Tamaki reacted instantly, using their abilities to disperse the debris before them. As the dust cleared, they caught sight of their opponent—he was clinging to the ceiling with one hand. Without wasting a second, he launched himself downward, delivering a powerful kick aimed at Lady Nagant while simultaneously throwing a double-fisted punch at Hawks.

The attacks landed with brutal force, sending both pro heroes crashing into opposite walls. The impact cracked the concrete, and before the dust even settled, the villain turned his focus toward Raiden and Tamaki.

However, before he could strike, Hawks was already back in the fight. Moving faster than the eye could track, the pro hero appeared in a blur, intercepting the villain's next attack with his wings.

At the same moment, a gunshot rang out. The villain flinched as a bullet struck his side—Lady Nagant had fired the instant she regained her footing. Without hesitation, Hawks and Nagant pressed the counterattack, forcing the villain on the defensive.

The younger heroes didn't hesitate either. Raiden unleashed two consecutive Psyshock blasts, perfectly timed with Kaina's next shot. Tamaki, meanwhile, transformed his arm into a spiked, tentacle-like appendage and aimed straight for the villain's head.

But the villain was fast. He blocked each attack with a different limb, his unnatural flexibility and strength allowing him to deflect the onslaught. The sheer force of the clash sent shockwaves through the floor beneath them, causing it to crack and collapse. The villain plummeted through the crumbling concrete, crashing onto the level below.

Raiden, Tamaki, Hawks, and Lady Nagant didn't waste a second. They lunged after him, determined to keep the pressure on. The plan was simple: don't give him a moment to recover.

Tamaki and Hawks engaged first, closing in at high speed. The hero student activated his Quirk to its fullest potential, his body morphing into a monstrous hybrid.

A dense, double-layered armor formed over his skin, gleaming under the dim light—a combination of crocodile hide and the ironclad beetle's impenetrable shell. His arms thickened into the massive limbs of a grizzly bear, his legs took on the powerful build of a red kangaroo, and from his back, a scorpion's tail emerged, accompanied by a writhing mass of tentacles.

"Chimera Drake."

Tamaki had nearly transformed into a full-fledged bipedal dragon. The only thing missing were wings.

With a single, explosive leap, he launched himself at the villain, his bear-like fist swinging with tremendous force. Tentacles lashed out from every angle, each striking with deadly precision as he drove his attack forward.

The villain was sent flying across the floor, but he quickly blocked Tamaki's attack, though the impact still sent him skidding back. At that moment, multiple copies of Raiden appeared around him, each one holding a black orb in their hands.

Without hesitation, the clones fired their Shadow Balls. The orbs struck at the villain, but he blocked every one—except for the last one, which slammed into his back with a violent explosion, propelling him toward Tamaki.

Before the villain could reach the boy, a bullet slammed into his shoulder, piercing through it and leaving a hole. At the same time, a wave of feathers dug into his back, pinning him to the ground.

Despite being severely wounded and trapped by the combined efforts of two pro heroes and two powerful kids, the villain only laughed.

"Hahaha, this is fun! I've been waiting for a good fight. Let's start with the two closest," he said, his voice dripping with madness as he chuckled low.

With a powerful shove, the villain pushed himself up, his leg glowing bright with energy. He launched two swift kicks—one aimed at Tamaki, the other at Hawks. Both heroes were knocked back, sent crashing down to the lower floors.

Without skipping a beat, the villain dodged five incoming bullets from Kaina, who was already preparing another shot. In a flash, he leaped at her, his hands glowing with intense yellow energy. The speed was so blindingly fast that Kaina could only raise her arms to block.

The impact was brutal. It sent her crashing through the walls, the force breaking bricks in her wake as she was hurled across the room. A massive hole was left in the wall where she passed.

Raiden was already watching the villain's next move. He materialized beside him in multiple copies, each one preparing to strike. When they attacked, the villain dodged effortlessly, his focus narrowing on the real Raiden.

Raiden seemed to have anticipated this. As soon as the villain leaped toward him, both of his legs glowed with bright energy. Just as the villain got close enough, Raiden struck, his leg blocking the villain's kick with an almost blinding flash of yellow light. The force of the impact sent both of them flying back, crashing into the ground with such force that the floor cracked beneath them.

Amidst the chaos, two bullets slammed into the villain's back, forcing him to his knees.

Without wasting a moment, the villain's legs glowed again. He kicked the ground with such power that it left a trail of destruction, and in an instant, he appeared before Lady Nagant.

Despite the villain's speed, Nagant didn't flinch. She kept her focus on him, her gun aimed steadily. But just as she prepared to fire, the villain's strike came straight at her face, he moved in a flash, and everyone was moving in blurs of motion, Raiden used his telekinesis to give Kaina room to dodge, and she did, with a slight movement of her face, she let the villain strike pass just by an inch of her face.
