Chapter 1 - The Ban is Still There

Little info first

---

Reverend Insanity, the world of Gu.

The power system in Reverend Insanity has an amazing structure.

there are two types of people—those who can be awakened by Hope Gu and can become Gu Masters, and those who have not. While Gu Masters are seen as superior beings compared to ordinary people, both still fall under the category of mortals.

Mortal Realm:

A Mortal Gu Master begins at Rank 1 and can advance up to Rank 5, which is the peak of mortal power. However, to go beyond Rank 5, one must ascend to the Immortal Realm. The difference between mortal and immortal ranks is so vast that they cannot even be compared.

Immortal Realm:

Once a Gu Master ascends, they enter the Immortal Realm, starting at Rank 6. Immortals face calamities, dangerous tribulations that can result in death, making survival an ongoing struggle. The Immortal Ranks range from Rank 6 to Rank 9, with immense gaps in power between each level. At Rank 9, immortals reach the pinnacle of existence and are titled Immortal Venerables—akin to immortal kings who rule over the world.

Throughout millions of years, only ten individuals have reached the level of Immortal Venerable. They are as follows, in order of their appearance and paths:

1. Primordial Origin Immortal Venerable: Master of the Qi Path; also created the Enslavement Path as his secondary specialization.

2. Star Constellation Immortal Venerable: Master of the Wisdom Path; creator of the Star Path.

3. Limitless Demon Venerable: Master of the Rule Path.

4. Reckless Savage Demon Venerable: Master of the Transformation Path; also cultivated the Strength Path.

5. Red Lotus Demon Venerable: Master of the Time Path.

6. Genesis Lotus Immortal Venerable: Master of the Wood Path.

7. Thieving Heaven Demon Venerable: Master of the Theft Path; created the Space Path as his secondary specialization.

8. Giant Sun Immortal Venerable: Master of the Luck Path; creator of the Blood Path.

9. Spectral Soul Demon Venerable: Master of the Soul Path; also cultivated the Food Path.

10. Paradise Earth Immortal Venerable: Master of the Earth Path.

Every Venerable has reached the highest attainment in their respective path.

After ascending to immortality, a Gu Master must carefully cultivate and align themselves with a specific path. This alignment causes Dao Marks—unique imprints of that path—to appear on their body.

The number of Dao Marks determines the strength and effectiveness of an immortal's power. The more Dao Marks one possesses, the greater the amplification of their abilities, allowing their moves to become exponentially more powerful.

However, the path to survival in this world is harsh and unforgiving. The weak face near-impossible odds, making the entire world an arena where only the strong can hope to survive.

In Reverend Insanity world.

"Fang Yuan, quietly hand over the Spring Autumn Cicada and we'll give you a quick death!"

"Fang Yuan you damn demon, just because you wanted to cultivate the Spring Autumn Cicada, you've gone and killed Millions of people. You've committed too many unforgivable, heinous sins!"

"Old bastard Fang, stop attempting to resist anymore, today all of the major factions of justice have combined together just to destroy your devil lair. This place is already covered in inescapable nets, this time you will definitely be beheaded!"

"Fang Yuan, 300 years ago you insulted me, took away my body's purity, killed my entire family and executed my nine generations. From that moment onwards, I hated you with a burning passion! Today, I want you to die!"

Fang Yuan was in deep green robes that had been torn to shreds. His hair was disheveled and his entire body was covered in blood.

Fresh blood flowed from the numerous wounds on the body. Just by standing there for a short while, Fang Yuan had already accumulated a large pool of blood beneath his feet.

Enemies surrounded him all around; there was already no way out.

It was a forgone conclusion that he would die here.

"I failed in the end." Fang Yuan sighed in his heart emotionally, yet there were no regrets.

This end result was something he had foreseen. When he made his decision in the beginning, he had prepared himself for this.

"If the Spring Autumn Cicada Gu that I have just refined is effective, I shall still be a demon in my next life!"

With this thought, Fang Yuan couldn't help but let out a big laugh before sacrificing everything to the Spring Autumn Cicada gu.

2025, Earth

"Dammit!"

"The ban on Reverend Insanity is still there."

Why, China? Why are you doing this to me?"

Joey's voice was low, tinged with helpless anger. "Banning such a peaceful and harmless novel? What's the point of that?"

The dim glow of his phone illuminated the room as he rubbed his temples. "It's late… I should get some rest. Another day of hard, low-paying work tomorrow. What a life," he said, his voice trailing into a defeated murmur.

On the other side of the room, he was lying on his bed, eyes fixed on the ceiling. "It's a pity," he began, speaking as though to the shadows around him. "If I had powers in the real world...I'd..."

He clenched his fists, his tone growing sharper. "First thing, I'll kill that trash author of Douluo Dalu. He's the reason for the ban, after all. A jealous trash who couldn't stand Reverend Insanity being more popular than his own garbage!"

his voice was filled with contempt. "No, wait. Comparing him to Gu Zhen Ren? That's an insult to genius."

Joey tossed his phone onto the table, its screen flickering briefly before going dark. He lay back on his bed, exhaustion washing over him. "When will this endless grind end?" he muttered. "These pointless rules… this system that's choking me."

His thoughts drifted, heavy and relentless. "Reading Reverend Insanity was my only escape. It showed me how useless these rules are, just chains that shackle us. Gu Zhen Ren... he has a visionary. He understood humanity's limitations better than anyone."

A faint smile crossed his lips as he stared at the ceiling. "I just wish I could see how it all ends. Fang Yuan's journey... I'm sure it would have been the greatest ending a novel could ever have."

But the smile faded, replaced by a grim look. "Dreams… that's all they are. Dreams don't change anything. Only by acting can you find light in the darkness."

He closed his eyes, his voice barely audible. "What would Fang Yuan do in my place? I'm sure he'd find a way to rise to the top... no matter what."

A deep sigh escaped him, heavy with self-doubt. "So am I just a failure?"

The room was silent, save for the faint hum of the night outside.

Unseen and unfelt, a mysterious energy seeped into the room. It hovered briefly, glowing faintly, before entering Joey's sleeping body. His breathing stopped, his heart stilled, and yet...

His soul remained. Encased in the energy, his essence shimmered briefly before vanishing without a trace.

Joey's body lay lifeless, he was unaware he just died but still his journey was far from over.
