Days passed, and campus routines returned to normal.
Lucas had warned Haisley firmly, without much small talk. He didn't like Haisley getting close to Veronica or any of those other guys who, in his opinion, didn't know their boundaries. Lucas trusted Haisley it was the world around her that he didn't trust. Haisley simply agreed to whatever her husband asked. Now that she was married, of course she had to follow her husband's wishes.
"I don't care who tries to get close to you. But I won't just stand by if it's Veronica or those annoying guys," Lucas said one night, his jaw clenched and his eyes staring straight ahead as if piercing through everything.
Haisley nodded slowly. "I know. And you don't need to worry. I know what I have to do."
Veronica tried to approach Haisley again, as if she had learned nothing from the previous rejection. At that time, Haisley was walking through the campus hallway, heading to the lecturers' room. Veronica caught up and stepped in front of her.
