Darren's POV
The night went on, the sonorous music cuddling my ears, the loud clinking of glasses, and the smiles I could see everywhere. I couldn't bother with any pointless conversations, choosing to remain alone for the rest of the night.
The hours droned on, the clock ticking as midnight approached. I glanced across the hall, watching Jason and his family make one last tour of the crowd.
They shared handshakes and hugs, talking amongst themselves with smiles that clearly had deeper meanings. I shook my head, refilling my glass from one of the many tables that littered the hall.
I walked off, acknowledging nods from vampires of various social standings. Unconsciously, I found myself near Felicity. I was ready to bolt away, but she positioned herself in my way.
"You've been avoiding me all night, my lord."
