Chapter 4 - Chapter 2: Doomsday Helpline

The next day, by the time the sky brightened, it was already 13:00 in the afternoon.

The darkness receded, and there was no process of sunrise; the sky was already slanted with clear daylight.

The time for daylight was an hour later than yesterday, and calculating by the daylight saving time of Jiang City's region, if sunset is around 18:45, then in about five days, there will no longer be any dawn here.

In the apartment, Lin Xian picked up the Short Knife and put it in his backpack, then jumped from the balcony into the room next door; he meandered downwards along the established route, entering a subway tunnel through the underground civil defense facility entrance of the apartment.

This was the maintenance section of the original University City Station, which had been completely paralyzed after the apocalypse had begun.

The zombies on the platform had all been cleared by Lin Xian, turning this place into his train preparation area.

Lin Xian walked deep into the tunnel. A Whale 03E heavy-duty gas turbine locomotive sat on the unkempt and mottled railway tracks.

This steel behemoth, weighing 200 tons, was Lin Xian's secret weapon prepared for escaping the never-ending night!

He turned on the flashlight, and a beam of white light illuminated the dark and gaping tunnel. Lin Xian gazed at the colossal machine before him, a growing trepidation in his heart.

This masterpiece, built 30 years ago by a joint effort between Alstom Transportation Co., Ltd. and Dragon Country North Car Group, is based on the Alstom "Prima" locomotive technology platform. It was meticulously developed and became the mainline freight gas turbine locomotive with high power output.

The locomotive spans over 36 meters long and 3.2 meters wide; beneath its imposing figure lies astonishing energy. Its traction power reaches up to 18,500 horsepower, equivalent to the combined might of dozens of supercars, powerful enough to drag tens of thousands of tons of heavy cargo!

This was nearly a perfect fit for Lin Xian's Mechanical superpower, and it was this discovery that inspired his Infinity special train project!

"Check the drive shaft, brake pads, power turbine..."

Lin Xian's Mechanical Heart has three basic skills: Mechanical Scan, Mechanical Repair, and Mechanical Operation.

Simply put, any machinery he touches, as long as he understands its principles, can be directly controlled and repaired by him, and he can even generate a holographic blueprint of the device through a scan. These three passive skills cannot be upgraded.

The Whale 03E requires fuel for propulsion and electricity for auxiliary driving. Fuel is the scarcest resource in the post-apocalyptic world, but Lin Xian's superpower, "Mechanical Heart," can drive it directly using his own abilities, without the need for energy, which is incredibly heaven-defying.

However, since the output power is limited by the individual's physical strength, there is a certain limit to the driving distance for Lin Xian's current physical limits. But with him as a human battery, and by absorbing machinery and collecting resources along the way, if he can later find power generation equipment or even small nuclear power devices, then this energy problem will cease to be a concern.

In addition to driving the locomotive, Lin Xian had already prepared three passenger carriages to be used as living carriages for storing materials and as living areas, all modified from the original passenger carriages.

Lin Xian walked to the last carriage, placed his hand on the train's body, and activated the Mechanical Heart. A specially-made hydraulic lift platform was lowered. Inside the fourth carriage sat a motorcycle, which was prepared for collecting materials after parking.

He climbed onto the machine, took down a welding machine, and next to the track lay a pile of steel materials, mainly rolled steel plates, High Hardening Tungsten Steel, and High Manganese Steel. These materials, originally used for the protection of armored vehicles and tanks, were found by Lin Xian in the warehouse of Jiang City's specialty steel factory and are ideal for constructing his steel fortress.

Hum~

A light screen flickered in front of Lin Xian, showing several armor blueprints he had drawn himself, as well as some firearm blueprints, including a blueprint for a Glock 23 type 0.40in pistol, which he had seized from a skirmish with a gang and turned into a blueprint through his [Mechanical Scan] skill.

But the problem is

"High alloy chrome molybdenum steel 120 grams, basic steel material 300 grams, plastic 195 grams..."

Lin Xian glanced at it and felt a headache.

Compared to the standard equipment after scanning, the most convenient for Lin Xian at the moment was to use his Mechanical Manufacturing skill combined with the existing materials for DIY assembly.

Click~ Click~ Bang~!

A glimmer of light shone in Lin Xian's eyes, the steel materials before him suddenly levitated, and then, under a powerful compressive force, quickly rolled and fused together. In just ten minutes, a 1.5*0.9 composite armor plate revealed itself before him.

Manufacturing and assembly required utmost concentration, and since he was alone, Lin Xian had to seize the moments of daylight to prepare the train.

Hours passed, and multiple sets of grid and double-layer composite armor plates for the 'windows' were finally assembled. Lin Xian then pushed out a mobile small crane from the rear carriage, moving these heavy armors one by one to the edge of the carriage, and started welding them into place with the welding machine.

The Whale 03E's heavy-duty gas turbine locomotive had a driver's passageway connected to all the carriages behind it, all equipped with isolation gates.

The entire train was named "Infinity" by Lin Xian. The first carriage was converted into a simple living area where most of the collected materials were stored, and the second carriage was currently empty. His plan was to use it for planting vegetables and cultivating green plants.
