Chapter 39 - Mysterious snake(3)

As the gigantic, arrogant monster attacked Cades at an inconceivable pace, using its muscles to quickly spring towards the him from a coiled up position with its maw ripped wide open and the gigantic, growing teeth dripping with transparent venom Cades was barely able to throw the wyrm to the ground once more and cause it to once again rip apart the surface of the once serene lake that was now barely visible anymore.

However, the gigantic snake began quickly rotating around itself, as if it was using a jump rope to slash out at Cades who stayed into the air and watched as the gigantic tail of the monster was rotating around itself in a wide circle at a break-neck speed, causing the entirety of the lake to turn into a whirlwind devouring all live inside of it.

But Cades, unperturbed, attacked the core of the all-destroying whirlwind of chaos and easily attacked the middle of the whirlwind, the face of the ancient goliath seemed surprised as it was attacked from seemingly nowhere, but overall Cades assumed that it had just been disoriented and had been trying to thrash all around itself in an attempt to destroy everything.

However, as Cades attacked the centre of the whirlwind of flesh it stopped moving and the disoriented wyrm finally saw his opponent once more, now with a visible dent in its head that caused blood to gush out of its orifices.

The snake however seemed to vanish under the feet of the ehetrian and appear a few hundred feet away, flying above the stormy water in a shape resembling a levitating "S".

As Cades watched, stunned, as the wyrm levitated above the stormy water, controlling it and causing dozens of gigantic columns to rise and accumulate above its head, in a gigantic cloud.

While the the snake was occupied with that incredible feat Cades started sprinting towards the snake that seemed to still be underestimating him as it didn't even look at Cades as it was casting the spell.

Within a fraction of a second Cades had already arrived at the body of the gigantic snake that was still growing as it was casting the typhoon of water, situated above the wet desert full of algae and dying fishes and used the blunt hammerhead end of his staff to once again attack the head of the snake and hopefully kill it this time.

But at that very moment the snake ripped open its maw once more and brightly burning, white, roaring flames were sent out of it in a gigantic, reverse funnel that quickly turned around itself and curved as it was heading towards Cades body.

The flames hit Cades directly and began dancing brightly on Cades body as he continued quickly flying towards the monster that had now begun controlling the stormy cloud atop its head and causing it to begin descending.

As Cades finally arrived at the snakes body he engulfed his staff in the intent to cut and began sending wave after wave towards the giant, elegantly squirming, brilliantly white snake as it was separated into snake slices similarly to a sausage.

Or at least he had tried to do so, but the snake was deeply cut into its writhing flesh, so much so that it collapsed and fell down to the ground like a sack of potatoes, being followed by the entirety of the thousands of tons of water that had been accumulating over the snakes body and had slowly been growing tendrils that had begun reaching for Cades but were now collapsing into nothing but.. well.... water.

As Cades realized this he was flying away from the gigantic cloud as fast as he could but was still crushed under the insurmountable masses of the dark, falling water, same as the gigantic snake that was probably in a much worse speed than he himself was by now.

The insurmountable masses of water crashed down onto the ehetrian who was abrely able to keep himself alive using a spell to split the falling water, a relatively simple but harrowing task that required an incredibly fast reaction speed, a lot of mana, a ingrained defense spell of that type and not much more.

Cades had all of these thing, the wyrm probably not.

Overall the fight with the wyrm was weird, it was as if every singe part of the fight was discontinuous, as if each of its movements, each of its attacks were meant for a separate fight in which it crushed those weaker then itself.

Cades didn't exactly think of the reason while he was fighting for his life against the ancient foe but the reason for the weirdness of this violent clash was very simple.

The wyrm had only been fighting against beings weaker than itself for the last thousand years, each time it had been attacked the attacker had been a powerful hero followed by either a small, weak group or a general followed by a great army.

In both of these cases it had been laughably easy for the snake to eradicate them, but after a few centuries of this the snake subconsciously resorted to this way of fighting whenever it fought against anything or anyone, no matter how powerful.

And now it would be detrimental for the ancient, white wyrm.

The showering of the seemingly infinite masses of water was powerful but quick, and after it had ended Cades started walking towards the limp body of the ancient snake that was now much smaller than it had been previously, with only about thirty feet across.

The once beautiful wyrm had found its end at a breakneck speed, a lot had happened but the battle had taken less than a minute overall.

The incredible pace at which the monster had previously regenerated was now no more and the once pristine scales that had shone in a brilliant white, tainted by a kind of rainbow, morroring because of the water droplets were now tainted in an unmistakable tainted red, more so of blood than any other and many of them being mixed with countless cracks as wide as a hair.
