Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Pushing the Limits of the Device

The kingdom of Wesdiel, a place I never went to in my life. As we entered through the gates I could see why Vae explained everything to me.

It was definitely not a magic driven kingdom but it could pull it off when necessary. It's architecture resembled a lot of the buildings in the book mom used to show me. The one that talked about "engineers" of the world who used to build things without the help of magic.

Magical "engineers" exist in the world of course but the stories always talked about the ones without the ability to use it. This place resembled a lot of the drawings so it's neat to see in person.

The buildings were made from rough stones and red bricks, most had different hand crafted signs hanging in front of them. "Al's alchemy shop.", "Mira's Crafts and Junk Shop." And many more like that.

Not a lot of people filled the streets since most didn't want to draw attention to themselves during the day, this kingdom was more of a nighttime type of place. People preferred to be out during those hours so that they avoided any hassle from the guards.

Guards typically watched things closely since a lot of bandits tend to sneak through here. They are always selling belongings of those that they have killed or from areas that were abandoned.

Many parts of the world are empty from the killings of people without magic. What are these people called exactly? Hythens, a word made up by the higher ups of the magic world to describe useless people with no magic abilities whatsoever.

Why does this matter you might think, it matters because a lot of kingdoms follow the laws put in place by the order of kings. The kingdom of Wesdiel isn't the most liked by other kingdoms for its low ranking magic users and is often accused of harboring Hythens.

"We should check out some of the shops while it's still light out." Vae suggests while taking a few glances around.

Checking everything out would be the smartest thing to do right now since I need some materials.

"I agree with you. I believe that junk shop might be a good spot to try." Mason speaks while shifting his attention towards it.

There could be some parts in there that might help me push the limits of my device, or at least I could hope that something is in there. This thing is my last line of defense so I'd like to make it as powerful as I can before the need arises.

"Yay we can check out shops!" Aria says excitedly.

It didn't take long for us to enter the shop since it was only a few meters in front of us but I was curious. This is the first real shop that I've ever been in and I don't even know what to expect.

I never really traveled outside of the house before everything happened so this was the first time for me. Everything has been brand new and I haven't known how to react to it all.

Inside of the junk shop they noticed all sorts of trinkets, weapons, and even some old books on the shelves all around the shop. One or two people also appeared to be looking around in the shop already except they seem to be older.

An older woman also appeared to be behind the counter, more than likely the owner of the shop.

Honestly I didn't really know how to react since this was actually a lot nicer than I expected it to be. A shop full of goodies was just the kind of place I was looking for.

I could see a few small crystals on the shelf to the right of me so maybe they will work perfectly for what I need. Mason examines his device briefly while making sure no one is looking his direction.

Yes, these will definitely do so I just need to bring them up to the counter and we'll be good to go. Though I'll probably have to give it a few more minutes since Aria seems to be looking around as well.

I forget that she's like me in the sense of seeing everything for the first time since she was stuck in that cave for however long it was. I'm glad that I don't have to go through this experience alone.

Vae taps on his shoulder and interrupts his thoughts as she begins to speak. "Did you find what you needed?" She asks.

"I believe I did, is there anything you need?" Mason responds with a bit of curiosity in his voice.

I don't know if she'd need anything but I'm sure there's something for us all in this shop, or maybe I'm completely wrong.

A little bit of time passed as they searched around the shop and collected anything else that they needed. Mason managed to find a few of the things he needed for now but it wasn't everything.

Vae found a few small repair kits for armor and even a few tools for sharpening swords. Aria just enjoyed the different trinkets all around the shop since she hasn't experienced anything like this before.

After paying with a few silver coins they left the shop and began to search around the square. Not very much seemed to be around, people wise that is. Mostly just a few stands and of course the main inn of the entire kingdom was there.

Shojacks Inn and Chug, a place for people to rest and drink if they want to take their minds off of everything. It's been around for quite some time and they even have one more in another kingdom as well. Two brothers run the places and it's run rather well.

"I suggest we stay at the inn here for the night since we don't want to see how things are at night." Vae suggests while looking towards the inn.

That's probably not a bad idea.
