Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: She Understands

I'm surprised by her response to what happened but I didn't think it would be obvious that I couldn't use it. But she is a hero so it's not that surprising after all, shit.

"Then what will happen next?" Mason questions with a bit of caution in his voice.

She sat there quietly for a few moments before finally deciding to speak. "If you really can't use magic, I want to help. Probably surprising to hear but I'm not a fan of the laws in place." Vae answers with a bit of sadness in her voice.

The laws in place do suck and I don't think it's fair to those who are brought into the world with no chance to live just because of magic or no magic.

Magic is powerful but it shouldn't dictate someone's life no matter what so I want to keep up with my plan.

"Yeah she should join us." Aria chimes in with some excitement in her voice.

Mason looks back and forth at the two of them before speaking. "Alright, but won't it be weird for a hero to randomly join us?" Mason asks with a bit of confusion in his voice.

"Not at all. I don't have to explain myself to anyone, I'm not restricted." She responds with a slight chuckle afterwards.

Someone who understands, how nice for us to have a new companion but now this is going even better. We're slowing building up our party and making ourselves stronger by the day.

I'm not sure who else we'll meet along the way so there's plenty to see and plenty of people to meet.

"I'm up to traveling now so we shouldn't waste time right?" Vae speaks while slowly standing up.

"Yes, let us go." Mason says while leading the way out the shack.

Mason and his party decide to continue traveling north in hopes of finding something to make him even stronger. His hope is to keep getting stronger through training and even some more tinkering with the device.

His hope is to replicate magic through it as much as possible so that way he can at least fool some people without them realizing what he really is.

It's been about a month since the three of them started traveling together. (At The outskirts to the kingdom of Wesdiel.)

It was vast and the lands seem almost abandoned on the outside but within the kingdom it was a different story entirely. People were all using different types of methods to make a living.

Tinkering with tools, weapons, armor, and some even tried to make devices of their own to mimic certain aspects of magic. Wesdiel believes in the laws against non magic users but doesn't fully enforce them.

Lots of people hide within the kingdom but most can use magic, just not very strong forms of it. Even the weakest magic users are looked down upon by other stronger wielders.

Vae said that this is the kingdom of Wesdiel, a kingdom known for hiding non magic users or those with very weak forms of magic. I guess everyone has an issue of some sort but this place could give me some ideas.

I just need to be able to buy some stuff to work on this device more, I'm getting closer to what I need. Magic is very hard to replicate but certain aspects are starting to become easier to do.

"I'll cover the expenses here just don't overdo it please." Vae says with a smile.

"Thank you Vae, I appreciate it." Mason replies with kindness in his voice.

Vae, Aria, and I have all gotten closer since the travel started but it's still a bit worrisome from time to time. Vae is a hero with quite the reputation around most parts of the continent so for her to be by our side is a bit crazy to others.

Aria has been getting more comfortable with what magic she can actually use lately though which is a huge deal. That means that maybe her memory is starting to come back a bit.

Someone comes up to them as they are getting closer to the kingdom, a man with raggedy clothes, a scruffy beard, and his dark red eyes are staring right into theirs.

"Be wary of the inner kingdom walls, people don't take kindly to outsiders much anymore. They always bring trouble anymore." The Man says with a bit of roughness in his voice.

This guy seems like he's been out here awhile and doesn't look like he's in the best of shape but I'll take his words seriously. I don't know much about the kingdom other than what Vae has said.

"Why aren't you in the kingdom yourself?" Aria asks with a curious expression on her face.

The Man shudders for a second before he looks over and begins to speak. "I was exiled when they discovered how useless I really was to them." The Man answers with a sad look on his face.

Useless he says? That really is rough to hear someone say but I guess it can't always be helped after all. People are probably treated badly all over the world for all I know.

I'll look to make everything right once I'm in charge of things.

"I'm sorry to hear that, thank you for the advice." Mason speaks up before continuing to walk.

The party continues to make their way towards the kingdom as they have small discussions about what to look for. Mason decides to inform them about certain pieces he needs for the device to make it more efficient but there's no guarantee it'll be here.

Having to find a better processing crystal is going to be a pain, plus some of the panels are probably one of a kind. Some of the schematics dad left behind aren't the most helpful with where to get the materials.

I'll find them eventually, or at least I'm pretty hopeful that I'll find them somehow. Into the kingdom we go, here's hoping we find something that I need.
