Chapter 16 - Exploration

Chapter 16

*2 months later*

Grey spent two months practicing all the books he was given, though he didn't stay in his room to avoid raising his mother's suspicion. Instead, he often ventured into the forest to train. Over these weeks, he successfully cast a fireball spell for the first time.

His wind magic also grew stronger through constant use. Additionally, he decided to absorb the Earth crystal core from the level 3 beast, granting him Earth energy. However, his control was still weak—he could only manipulate Earth he was directly touching with his palm.

During this time, he also refined his appraisal ability, finally mastering it enough to view his own status. When he saw the results, he was utterly shocked.

Curious, he clicked on the elements tab to examine them in detail.

{ CG: Purple}

Grey was stunned by the high color grades of his affinities, confirming that he was indeed a rare talent. The numbers beside each element represented their strength, with Wind being his most powerful magic at twenty points.

Although his Earth and Fire attributes had lower points, their high color grades indicated immense potential. This realization filled him with excitement and determination.

Currently, he was in the forest practicing Earth magic, attempting to increase his proficiency. He held a small lump of Earth in his palm, molding it into various shapes—a dagger, then a spear.

Taking inspiration from the level 3 beast's ability, he coated the Earth spear with fire, swung it around, and then seamlessly switched to wind magic, floating above the ground. Without hesitation, he fired a fireball at a nearby tree, setting its branches ablaze. While still airborne, he shaped the Earth into a spear and hurled it at another tree. In a split second, he ignited the spear mid-flight, causing it to scorch deeply into the bark upon impact.

He then landed smoothly, using wind magic to cushion his descent. Wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead, he exhaled. "Phew! That was a job well done."

Approaching the tree, he retrieved the Earth spear, reshaped it into a thin rod, and slung it over his back. As he examined the charred bark, he nodded in satisfaction. "I can finally switch between elements seamlessly. My combat ability has improved, but I won't get overconfident. I still have a long way to go."

Done with his inspection, he headed toward a secluded, circular clearing surrounded by trees. In the center stood an incomplete cave—his personal training ground.

For the past two months, Grey had frequented this forest, knowing it was rarely visited. To ensure privacy, he ventured deep inside, constructing a cave where he could meditate and practice magic without disturbance.

The cave was still unfinished, with some missing sections. Just a few meters behind it lay the volcano where he had fought the level 3 beast. Occasionally, he trained there, trying to control the lava with his fire magic.

Grey's progress was remarkable—he was a quick learner, capable of memorizing techniques almost instantly. With no distractions, he dedicated himself entirely to training, earning him the reputation of a "training nerd."

However, there was one aspect he struggled with: rune and portal magic. This was the main reason he built the cave—to practice in peace.

Entering the cave, it appeared small at first glance. But as he stepped inside, he channeled a tiny amount of mana into a specific spot on the ground. Instantly, a concealed wall shifted aside, revealing a hidden chamber.

Despite his low Earth affinity, Grey's ingenuity allowed him to combine Earth magic with basic runic knowledge to create this mechanism. Without his mana, the wall wouldn't budge.

Beyond the entrance, a mini mountain of white chalk, food, and drinks awaited him. Off to the side lay a series of incomplete runes sketched on the floor.

With a sigh, he approached the runes, sat down, and picked up a piece of chalk. Staring at the symbols, he flipped through his runic book, reciting passages and memorizing their meanings before resuming his drawings.

'I've managed to create illusion runes and even small transportation runes, but this portal rune… it's completely different,' he thought, his brows furrowing in concentration.

Minutes passed as he repeatedly drew and erased his work. Eventually, he decided to take a break and meditate. As he sank into deep focus, a realization struck him. His eyes snapped open, and he rushed back to the magic circle.

With renewed determination, he resumed drawing, his strokes precise and confident. At last, he completed the intricate design. A broad smile spread across his face.

"Finally! All that's left is to channel my mana, and I'll be transported to another planet," he muttered, excitement bubbling in his voice.

"Time for some exploration."

He pressed his palm to the circle, infusing it with pure mana. In an instant, the runes lit up, glowing a brilliant white.
