Chapter 32 - What replaced the euphoric intimacy

The cold night breeze swept through the junkyard, carrying with it the faint scent of rust and damp metal. The moonlight, pale and distant, cast elongated shadows over the wreckage, making the abandoned cars look like twisted beasts frozen in time.

Felix turned to Milo, his eyes reflecting the dim glow of distant streetlights. "Do you mean you can only see shadows moving?" His voice was hushed, his left thumb pointing over his shoulder toward the two figures in the distance.

"Yeah," Milo confirmed, squinting as if willing his vision to sharpen. "Wait… can you actually make out who they are?"

Felix hesitated. "Hmm…" A soft murmur rumbled in his throat as he pretended to ponder. His night vision allowed him to see with clarity, but… admitting it? No. That was another thing entirely.

So, he shook his head. "No… not at all."

Before Milo could respond, a sudden, deep intake of breath sliced through the quiet, drawing their attention back to the two figures.
