Chapter 11: Training
Kazuo: Are you ready to start training?
Iroase: Yeah!
Kazuo: Alright. Since you don't have any magic it's best to work on your strength and stamina.
Iroase: Then how do I start?
Kazuo: First take a few laps around the school, working on your stamina is important.
Iroase: Got it (goes off and starts running)
Kazuo: I should have probably asked him what kind of exercises he currently does. Well I better start working on a simple one for now
After a while, Iroase comes back
Iroase (out of breath): I can't do anymore.
Kazuo: That's fine, you did way more than I thought you would. Anyway I have a workout plan for you (hands him a page)
Iroase: Is this what you follow?
Kazuo: More or less, I just made it a bit shorter for now.
Iroase: I see, this shouldn't be too difficult.
Kazuo: Good, you can do that after we are done here. Do it when you have the time.
Iroase: Okay boss!
Kazuo: Do you want to grab lunch?
Iroase: Yeah, I didn't eat before coming.
Kazuo: Neither did I, come on
They go to the cafeteria to grab lunch
Iroase: By the way, what's your plan for the upcoming test?
Kazuo: The one in 2 months?
Iroase: Yeah, it's the first big test we're getting. It's not going to be easy.
Kazuo: True, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. The goal is to get into the second phase.
Iroase: I know that, but aren't you afraid that the other classes may be stronger than us?
Kazuo: It's a possibility, but everyone here is more or less on the same level.
Iroase: That's true I guess.
Kazuo: And besides, scoring high on this test isn't worth it.
Iroase: What do you mean?
Kazuo: The point of this test is for the teachers to evaluate everyone's rank, but just because you have a higher rank than someone doesn't mean your are stronger. The best bet is to learn how everyone fights, then in the next test, you will be able to find out better ways to win.
Iroase: But couldn't you do that while trying to increase your rank?
Kazuo: You can if you want to, everything will be fine if you are at least ranked 40 or below. By getting that rank you can manage to earn a decent amount of money.
Iroase: So you're telling me not to aim too high, but instead focus on learning your opponents?
Kazuo: Exactly, you'll have no idea who you'll encounter or even remember everyone. So the best bet is to lay low in the first test, without having magic your are at a complete disadvantage.
Iroase: I know that much, so all I have to do is learn how my opponents fight before attacking?
Kazuo: Exactly, never make the first move, always wait for them to attack first and counter.
Iroase: I see, I'll keep that in mind
