Chapter 72 - Discovery

Aura…

In the hands of someone with a strong need for attention, it could be deeply unsettling.

And no one embodied this better than Hisoka.

At this moment, Moro could feel it—the intense, barely restrained desire radiating from Hisoka, and the internal struggle of keeping it in check.

This man… had terrifying self-control over his own desires.

But that control only existed to heighten his pleasure once he finally let loose.

It was, in essence, the perfect metaphor for Bungee Gum—like rubber, the more you suppress it, the more violently it snaps back.

The more Moro understood Hisoka, the more he wanted to get rid of him.

And now, with how they had stormed this place, it was almost certain that Hisoka would become a target of revenge for the Noland Organization.

And Moro had no intention of being dragged into that mess.

Let Hisoka deal with them—what did that have to do with him?

Ignoring Hisoka's internal struggle, Moro casually walked over to the scattered corpses, picking up two submachine guns.

Against normal humans, firearms were highly effective, allowing him to conserve his Nen for more important battles.

Behind him, Sambika stared at Retona's lifeless body, her dark eyes flickering with emotion. Then, she stepped forward and asked:

"What exactly… is going on here?"

Moro turned to look at her.

"Sambika, you're a professional Hunter, right?"

She hesitated, then nodded.

"Did you take a commission to investigate this virus?"

Sambika shook her head. "Not to investigate. To treat."

"Who was your client?"

"The village chief of Mudstone Village. That is…"

Her voice trailed off as her gaze locked onto the mansion in front of them.

The dead bodies and scattered firearms told a completely different story from what she had believed.

Seeing her hesitate, Moro casually raised his gun and emptied a few more bullets into Retona's body.

"I think this guy was your real employer."

Sambika fell silent.

Moro studied her downcast expression, then spoke in a calm tone:

"Sorry for killing your client. Looks like your job was a waste of time."

"But if my intel is correct… this mansion is actually a laboratory that experiments on living people to study viruses."

"!!!"

Sambika's head snapped up, her dark eyes filled with shock.

A laboratory that used live human subjects…?

To a true Virus Hunter, this was an unforgivable atrocity.

Ignoring her reaction, Moro continued:

"I'm going to wipe this place out. No survivors."

"But if you need any information on the virus, I'll leave a couple of them alive for you to interrogate. Might help the villagers."

"As for your commission fee… don't come looking for me."

Sambika had been overwhelmed just moments ago, but hearing his words, she stared at him blankly before shaking her head.

"I don't care about the money. Saving the villagers is the only payment I need."

Moro gazed at her for a moment, then asked:

"Then… you coming with me?"

Sambika nodded firmly.

At that moment, Hisoka finally seemed to settle his internal conflict.

His aura, which had been fluctuating with unrestrained desire, stabilized.

Then—

He casually repositioned himself so that both Moro and Sambika would notice him immediately.

It was as if he was saying—

"What about me? What about me?"

Moro glanced at him.

Then ignored him completely.

Instead, he turned to Sambika and said, "You're the expert. You lead the way."

"Got it."

Without hesitation, Sambika walked toward the mansion's open doors.

Moro followed without a second thought.

At this point—

They had already cleared out all the guards, and even the strongest enemy, Retona, had been dealt with in seconds.

The lab should be undefended now.

Hisoka had been completely ignored—

But he didn't mind at all.

Instead, his eyes flickered with mild surprise as he watched Sambika's back.

With his thick skin, Hisoka simply chuckled and followed along.

Once inside the mansion, it didn't take long to find a hidden underground passage.

But not because they were searching for it—

Three people in hazmat suits had just emerged from below, clearly trying to escape.

Before they could even react, Moro raised his gun and shot two of them dead, leaving just one survivor.

Then, pointing his gun at the survivor's head, he asked:

"So… you turned a crypt into a lab?"

Hearing the question, the survivor visibly flinched.

Moro had assumed the research facility was built inside the mansion or, at most, in a basement beneath it.

But to turn a crypt into a laboratory…?

That was unexpected.

As they walked through the tunnel-like corridor, Hisoka casually ran his fingers along the metal pipes lining the walls.

Bored, he muttered:

"Moro… this guy answered all your questions honestly…"

"But he's deliberately hiding something else."

The survivor in the hazmat suit stiffened—

A flicker of panic crossed his face.

"I—I'm not… I didn't hide—"

But as soon as he met Moro's indifferent gaze,

He felt something chilling—

As if death itself had taken form before him.

His will collapsed instantly.

He lowered his head, breaking eye contact, and his voice trembled:

"W-We… the OG virus… we extracted it from a corpse inside the crypt's sarcophagus."

A heavy silence filled the air.

Moro immediately turned to Sambika.

She looked deeply unsettled.

A virus… extracted from a corpse?

Her voice was sharp with anger:

"Take us to the protective gear storage. Now."

The survivor nodded frantically, stumbling forward to lead the way.

Along the way, they passed several rooms—

And every time, Moro wordlessly stepped inside and executed any survivors.

Soon, they reached a storage room filled with protective suits.

After suited up, they continued toward the quarantined virus containment area.

Along the way, Moro kept searching each room they passed.

There was only one way in or out of this crypt.

As long as they checked every room, there would be no escapees.

Just before entering another room, Moro told them:

"Give me a second."

Stepping inside, he froze.

The room was lined with shelves—

And on those shelves were countless jars—

Each containing human organs, preserved in liquid.

Hisoka walked in behind him, looking amused.

Moro expanded his En, scanning the entire room.

No life detected.

He retracted his Nen field, then turned to leave—

But something caught his eye.

On one of the shelves, inside a thin glass cylinder,

A pair of suspended eyeballs glowed with an intense red light.

Within those fiery irises, countless tiny crystal-like reflections shimmered.

It was—

Scarlet Eyes.
