Chapter 73 - Scarlet Eyes

Scarlet Eyes.

They are the eyes of the Kurta Clan, renowned in the world of collectors and hailed as one of the seven most beautiful sights in the world.

Because of this, the Kurta Clan had always lived in seclusion, residing in an undisclosed location.

Unfortunately, the Phantom Troupe discovered their whereabouts and massacred the entire village of the Kurta Clan.

In the end, the only survivor was Kurapika, who had been granted permission to leave the village at the time, narrowly escaping the tragedy.

News of the Kurta Clan's annihilation was reported worldwide.

Some reports, detailing the brutal killing of children, shocked many people.

They were horrified by the ruthless methods of the perpetrators.

Under normal circumstances, the Kurta Clan's eyes appeared ordinary. However, when they became emotionally agitated, their eyes would turn a fiery red.

Especially in moments of extreme rage, the red hue of their eyes would become the most vivid and dazzling shade of crimson.

At that moment, if a Kurta Clan member were beheaded, that breathtakingly brilliant color would be forever preserved.

Thus, when the Phantom Troupe carried out their massacre, they deliberately sought to enrage pure-blooded Kurta members by subjecting their intermarried kin— including children—to unspeakable torture.

After the slaughter, the Phantom Troupe left behind a message pointing to Meteor City:

"We reject nothing, so do not take anything from us."

This act was meant to instill fear in the world regarding Meteor City.

Targeting the reclusive Kurta Clan also sent a chilling message:

"No matter how deeply you hide, we will find you."

However, in Moro's view, the Phantom Troupe's attack on the Kurta Clan was likely not just about spreading fear of Meteor City…

He speculated that Scarlet Eyes, being one of the world's seven most beautiful sights, might have the potential to enhance Skill Hunter.

Thus, Chrollo had orchestrated the massacre of the Kurta Clan—achieving two objectives at once.

Now, with Scarlet Eyes being an extinct rarity, their value in the collectors' market had skyrocketed.

Moro hadn't expected to see a pair of them here.

If not for their intense presence, he might have overlooked them.

On the same shelf, there were also other eyeballs—some a deep blue, others an emerald green…

But compared to Scarlet Eyes, these lacked a luminous crystal structure and were far less striking.

"What is this…?"

Sambika had just pushed the hostage in the protective suit into the room when she noticed the striking red eyes among the numerous preserved human organs.

Moro explained,

"Scarlet Eyes—one of the seven most beautiful sights in the world. To certain organ collectors, they are priceless treasures."

As he spoke, he took down the glass jar containing the Scarlet Eyes, and an image of Kurapika flashed through his mind.

The last survivor of the Kurta Clan… Where was he now? What was he doing?

"Oh."

Sambika was familiar with human organs, but she only cared about their research value, not their market price.

Holding the jar in one hand, Moro said calmly,

"Let's keep moving."

Without lingering in the room, the group continued down the orderly tomb passage and soon reached a burial chamber filled with coffins.

Inside, connected by two straight corridors, stood several individuals in protective suits.

Moro quickly scanned the room—twenty-one people.

However, according to their hostage, the virus research team alone had over fifty members.

The number before them was clearly insufficient.

Which meant the rest must be deeper inside, where human experimentation was being conducted.

As Moro and the others entered, most of the researchers accepted their fate. But behind their transparent face shields, fear, despair, and resentment were evident.

One person, however, remained unnervingly calm.

He removed his helmet, revealing a weathered face with dark circles under his eyes.

His name was The Pharmacist, the lead scientist of the virus research project.

"You have no idea what you're doing—"

Unfazed by the gun in Moro's hand, he pointed at the coffin sealed in a glass chamber. A fanatical light flickered in his eyes as he rasped,

"You are obstructing the birth of a great achievement…"

Sambika's gaze hardened as she said,

"One of the fundamental principles of medical research is 'Do no harm.'"

She had already confirmed the human experimentation through their hostage. Now, she glared at The Pharmacist with barely contained anger.

"The human experiments you've conducted are a direct violation of international law—"

"Sambika Norton, the Virus Hunter, correct?"

The Pharmacist waved his hand dismissively, cutting her off with a cold sneer.

"Spare me your foolish idealism."

Sambika's eyes widened, her anger boiling over.

Spreading his arms wide, The Pharmacist's expression became manic.

"Humanity's greatest advancements have always been built upon sacrifice. You have no ide—"

Bang!

A gunshot echoed through the burial chamber.

The Pharmacist's words were abruptly cut off. His face froze.

A red bullet hole had appeared on his forehead.

"Uh…"

The fanaticism in his eyes faded as he stared in shock at Moro, who had calmly raised his pistol.

With a dull thud, The Pharmacist collapsed lifelessly.

The other researchers trembled in terror.

Moro lowered his gun, then turned to see Sambika standing frozen in shock.

"I didn't know you enjoyed chatting with people like that," he remarked, tilting his head.

"I…"

Under her face mask, Sambika's mouth opened slightly. She wanted to say something—anything—but no words came. She could only stare at Moro, overwhelmed.

Ignoring her reaction, Moro pressed his still-warm gun barrel against the hostage's chest and said calmly,

"Aside from the one on the ground, pick out the person here who knows the most about the 'OG Virus.'"

"O-Okay…"

The hostage, hands trembling, slowly pointed to someone.

Without hesitation, Moro executed the remaining researchers.

This ruthless efficiency left the hostage in utter despair.

Moro had no concern for his feelings. He signaled for Sambika to start questioning the survivor, then strode toward the opposite corridor.

As expected, the remaining researchers were hiding in the deeper chambers.

Using his En technique, Moro carefully located and eliminated them one by one.

Once he had wiped out everyone connected to the Nolan Organization, he found himself facing the isolated cells—where victims of the virus experiments were imprisoned.

These unfortunate individuals were test subjects for the virus research.

It seemed the experimenters had planned trials across different age groups, as the cells contained infants, children, teenagers, adults, and the elderly…

Moro stood there for a moment in silence.

Then, without a word, he turned and walked back to the burial chamber.

By now, Sambika had opened the glass chamber and was standing beside the coffin.

Moro approached and asked,

"What did you find?"

"The OG Virus…"

Sambika looked up at him, frowning.

"It's related to post-mortem Nen."

"Oh?"
