Chapter 185 - Chapter 184: Possession

The eyes of the "Fantastic Five Spider-Man" first showed a trace of confusion, but they quickly became clear, turning sharp as a sword.

The reason for this transformation was simple—although his body remained the same, the "soul" within it had already been replaced.

And the one now occupying this body was a being from the future.

It was Peter!

Using the Web of Life and Destiny, along with his own mysterious quantum energy, Peter successfully projected his consciousness into the past. As long as the Web of Life and Destiny existed, whether it was the past or the future, or even another world, he could travel there in this state.

Peter took only a few seconds to absorb the remaining memories of this body.

In this world, Spider-Man was also named Peter Parker.

His early experiences were identical to those of Spider-Man from the Earth-616 universe—until the point where he sought to join the Fantastic Four. It was at this moment that a divergence occurred, giving rise to this universe.

In the Earth-616 universe, the Fantastic Four rejected his request, forcing Spider-Man to continue his journey as a lone hero.

However, in this universe, designated Earth-772, while the Fantastic Four initially rejected him, the Invisible Woman, Susan, managed to persuade Reed and the others, allowing Spider-Man to join them and become part of the "Fantastic Five."

After joining the Fantastic Five, the life of Earth-772's Spider-Man changed drastically.

First, the Fantastic Five made a public statement, effectively giving Spider-Man an official "background." As a result, J. Jonah Jameson ended his long-standing smear campaign against Spider-Man and began supporting him instead.

Next, through the Fantastic Five's various activities and scientific achievements, they earned enough money to afford medical treatment for Aunt May.

After that, the Fantastic Five went through numerous battles together.

Until one day, an Inheritor crossed the multiverse and arrived in Earth-772, attempting to hunt down its Spider-Man.

To protect Parker, the other four fought alongside him against the Inheritor, but they didn't last long. One by one, they were slain by the powerful adversary.

Earth-772's Spider-Man also perished, bringing his life to an end.

And shortly after the Inheritor left, the Spider-Man now standing here appeared.

After organizing his thoughts, Peter looked down at the two gaping wounds in his chest.

Before arriving in this "past," he had already learned many things through the Web of Life and Destiny.

Regarding this entire Spider-Verse event, he had essentially grasped the situation from beginning to end.

The only regret was that everything that happened in the Earth-001 universe had not been recorded in the Great Web.

Peter speculated that this was likely due to the unique nature of Earth-001.

In the distant past, Earth-001 was the home of the gods, known as the Realm of the Gods.

And as a divine realm, its time could not possibly follow a linear progression.

Everything that happened there was the result of natural selection rather than something designed by the "Great Web," nor could it be arbitrarily altered.

Unless—

According to the information Peter obtained from the Great Web, there were currently only three known individuals capable of manipulating it.

One of them is the Master Weaver.

The Master Weaver is actually a Spider Totem—and not just any Spider Totem, but an incredibly powerful one!

Because his true identity is Karn!

A Karn from the future!

It was only after learning this that Bide confirmed the feasibility of using the Great Web to travel back in time.

Karn is also a member of the Inheritor family.

As for why an Inheritor would become a Spider Totem, it all comes down to the unique nature of the Inheritor family.

The Inheritor family is actually a type of Totemic being known as the "Leech Totem."

Leeches, as a species, exist at the very bottom of the food chain, surviving solely by parasitizing and feeding on the blood of other creatures.

The Leech Totem functions in the same way.

They can only grow stronger by using the power of others, which is why they feed on the life force of other Totems. They can devour Totemic avatars like Spider-Man, as well as Totemic gods like the Master Weaver.

But the Inheritors did not resign themselves to their inherent weakness. Instead, they used their advanced technology to secretly hunt Totemic beings and grow stronger.

Eventually, through extensive study of various Totemic creatures, they identified the "Spider Totem" as their primary target.

This was mainly because they discovered that Spider Totems seemed to have a deep connection to a certain "Great Web."

With this in mind, they traveled to Earth-001, defeated and captured the Master Weaver, and bound him in chains. They then forced him to use the Web of Life and Destiny to assist them in dimensional travel, allowing them to hunt Spider Totems across different parallel universes.

As for Karn, during the Inheritors' collective hunt for the Master Weaver, he hesitated for a moment—leading to his mother being killed by the Master Weaver.

In punishment, his father and family forced a mask onto his face and exiled him across the multiverse, condemning him to endlessly hunt Spider Totems to "atone" for his mistake.

However, as Karn continued hunting and absorbing the essence of Spider Totems, he gradually became assimilated by their power. In the end, he himself became a Spider Totem.

And because he had devoured so many Spider Totems, his abilities far surpassed most others—elevating him to the status of a Spider Totem god!

The second person was Anna-May Parker, from the universe of Earth-18119.

She is the daughter of that universe's Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson.

While the exact reasons are unclear, records within the Great Web indicate that, for a time, she took on the role of "Great Web Repairer" after the mysterious death of the Master Weaver.

Of course, she was likely only capable of repairing it, rather than controlling it to the same extent as the Master Weaver.

As for the third person—that would be Bide himself.

In truth, if he weren't so unwilling to trap himself in the so-called position of "Spider Totem God" and "Guardian of the Web of Life and Destiny"—a throne that is more of a cage—then assuming the role himself would have been the most natural choice.

"Who are you? A ghost?" Zhang Parker immediately leaped back, warily watching Bide. "Anna, scan his life signs."

"Doctor, his life signs are rapidly recovering—and growing stronger!" his assistant Anna reported.

"Is that strange temporal energy coming from him?" Zhang Parker asked again.

"No, his aura is… peculiar," Anna hesitated, as if even the advanced AI from the future struggled to describe the phenomenon of this resurrected Spider-Man.

At that moment, Bide turned to Zhang Parker and recognized him.

"Doctor Octopus's Spider-Man from Earth-616… Hm. I suppose it's somewhat nice to meet you."
