.
Yeon-woo stared blankly at him, the words not really registering on her brain.
.
"Isn't it a shame to be so sad in the face of this beauty?"
.
.
Yeon-woo continued to cry.
.
.
.
.
Simply said, it's a poetically tacky scene. Something that is a characteristic of dramas from this era. A scene that depends greatly on the actors to not make it feel embarrasing.
.
.
If Jang Hye-jin is good at crying scenes, Park Hyeon-do is good at monologues.
.
.
His pronounciation is clear and voice is smooth. He reads the dialogue with a sort of faraway air, a trait of the romantic but airheaded Heo Sang-woo.
.
.
Park Hyeon-do recited his lines with his smooth voice.
.
.
.
Their chemistry is pretty good even at a script reading.
.
.
I guess as long it was a pairing of a pretty woman and a handsome man, people would still give that drama a shot.
.
.
Such is the audience of these dramas.
.
.
But these two actors are doing more than that. You can feel something almost tangible whenever they communicate.
.
.
.
That's what we call good chemistry, at least that's how I think of it.
.
.
.
.
It seemed like a pretty scene.
.
.
I could almost imagine it coming to life.
.
.
With the lights on the sides of their face. The river in the background...
.
.
.
That's beautiful.
.
.
.
Is that how a director thinks?
.
...
...
...
.
"Hey, Ki-beom-ah. Lemme borrow your homework?! I'll change things up, I swear!"
.
Ki-beom obliged without saying anything as Yeon-gyeong sent him a lovely grin.
.
It's my turn.
.
This scene is some sort of official introduction to my character. Prior to this, my character has been showing up here and there, but there is no much elaboration about her yet.
.
.
Yeon-gyeong is described as someone horrible at studying but she had good street smarts.
.
.
In contrast she is friends with Ki-beom, a quiet overachiever.
.
.
In the original script, Yeon-gyeong is more of a bully to Ki-beom. She forced him to do her homeworks and help her cheat on exams.
.
.
Ki-beom became quite liked by the audience during that time and managed to stay until the end.
.
.
.
In this second life, there is a peculiar increase of Ki-beom's scenes, he even got a backstory and generally got more involved with the leads.
.
.
.
Hmm....
.
.
.
The kid who played Ki-beom seems alright. He read his lines well and managed to nail the vibe quite well.
.
.
.
I guess he didn't have big break either.
.
...
...
...
.
Yeon-gyeong's introduction scene is done.
.
This opening scene had a clear purpose, cementing Yeon-gyeong as a carefree and daring character in contrast to her sister who is quiet but resilient.
.
.
Playing Yeon-gyeong is a fun and refreshing experience, the way she speaks is clear and playful.
.
.
.
When I look at Yeon-gyeong, I remember the kid that lives next door, he is naughty but endearing.
.
.
.
I play her thinking of these qualities, the most important thing for Yeon-gyeong is to be adored by the viewers after all.
.
.
.
I try my best to make her as likeable as possible.
.
.
.
...
...
...
.
I waited for a while until another of my scene arrived. It was the bullying scene, where Yeon-gyeong witnessed the bullies' actions and bravely went against them.
.
These scenes are going to involve a little bit of action, but it was nothing too serious. It was basically a polished catfight because Yeon-gyeong had no settings of being a martial artist.
.
.
I yelled a lot and glared a lot. It made my voice a bit hoarse.
.
Through these scenes, I seem to sense a slight acknowledgement from my seniors.
.
Scenes like this is a balance of action, comedy and choreography. Although it was still far from the final result, a certain feel is needed to achieve the intended mix.
.
.
.
Such things might be slightly tricky for a new actor to balance.
.
.
.
I had a few experiences after all. It wasn't enough for a whole drama, but it'll suffice for a few scenes.
.
.
.
The script reading continued with the actors and staff getting a feel of the characters, as well as improving the script whenever possible.
.
...
...
...
.
Finally, here comes the scene that would be part of the climax.
.
The confrontation between sisters.
.
This is the only reason for Yeon-gyeong's existence in my opinion.
.
.
A source of conflict for her sister that started when both are still very young.
.
.
Such troublesome past made a mark on both of them and now everything shall explode.
.
.
.
Jo Yeon-woo was frustrated about her sister, she never listened to her, she keeps skipping classes, and her grades are barely passable.
.
Tonight was the point where everything overflowed.
.
.
.
Yeon-woo discovered that Yeon-gyeong has been neglecting class to practice archery. It made her furious, feeling that her efforts are wasted.
.
.
"Eonnie! I'm home!"
.
.
.
.
"You still remember to go home? I thought you'd be practicing archery until night," Yeon-woo was mad but she isn't the type to explode, instead she will turn cold and stabbing.
.
.
Yeon-gyeong's smile disappeared instantly.
.
"So what? Is it wrong?"
.
Yeon-gyeong stared at Yeon-woo, with a challenging stare.
.
.
.
"The problem here is not your interest in archery, it's your attitude towards education. Who told you it's okay to skip classes and flunk all your exams!"
.
.
Her face is still icy, but her words are loud and fiery.
.
.
.
.
"Everyone knew I was bad at studying from the first time. I knew that too, no matter how much I tried, I can't go anywhere."
.
"Jo Yeon-gyeong, that is still not an excuse! You..! Do you know all the things that I did just for you to be able to go to school!"
.
.
Jang Hye-jin is cooperating as well.
.
.
"So what? Is that what I want?! Did I ever ask for that? You always say that you're doing this for me. Did you even ask for my opinion?!!"
.
I took a deep breath.
.
My voice softened, "Ah, I don't want to yell at you like this..."
.
"Anyways, I have money from my part time jobs...."
.
"If I win the regional archery competition, I'll have enough for my tuition until I graduate high school. So, eonnie, don't worry about me and live your life."
.
Yeon-gyeong's tears are flowing continuosly.
