"Kane?" Chantelle gasped in surprise. She pushed herself up and saw Kane, wearing a helmet with a headlamp.
"Why are you here?" she asked, confused.
Am I dreaming?
"Mommy, don't be scared. I'm here to save you!" Kane reached out his small hands and grabbed hers, trying to pull her up.
Chantelle held his hand and used the railing to support herself.
As she moved, a sharp pain from her wound hit her. She wanted to cry from the pain. It was a clear sign everything wasn't a dream.
"Mommy, it looks like it's going to collapse soon. We need to leave now!"
"Okay, let's go." Chantelle nodded and picked Kane up in her arms. She pushed through the pain in her wound and walked toward the exit.
When they reached the first floor, they saw that half of the hospital's front building had been destroyed by the blast. Debris was everywhere. It looked like a wasteland.
