Chantelle totally ignored Daniel and opened the door to Philip's car.
"Kane, let's go!"
"Okay, Mommy." Kane jumped into her arms without a second thought.
As they climbed into her car, Philip ran to them and said, "Chantie, I don't think Daniel meant for it to happen that way. I showed up just in time by luck. If I'd been one minute late, we'd be digging for him in that pit right now…"
Chantelle didn't say a word. She placed Kane in the backseat and then sat in the driver's seat.
Without a glance, she shut the door hard in Philip's face.
Philip then gave Daniel a helpless look, as if to say, "Sorry, I did what I could!"
Suddenly, Daniel collapsed to the ground.
Philip panicked and shouted, "Daniel, what's wrong?!"
He rushed over dramatically, pretending to be in shock.
Chantelle looked at them through the rearview mirror. Her hand froze on the keyhole. She couldn't bring herself to start the car.
