Chapter 72 - Chapter 73: A New World

Chapter 73: A New World

Chang Wei created the world's largest freshwater lake, even forming a "new Yellow and Yangtze River."

This enormous freshwater lake has a rich underground space for water storage. Massive amounts of rainfall were gathered and deposited here by Chang Wei. The water is so crystal clear that one can see its profound depths, as it consists only of pure water molecules, having been evaporated and distilled. Not even bacteria or microorganisms remain.

Chang Wei measured the total water storage capacity, which amounted to approximately 100 trillion cubic meters.

The new Yellow and Yangtze River system was meticulously structured by Chang Wei, with numerous branches and tributaries spreading across the entire Pangu supercontinent. The main river spans over 50,000 kilometers, with a basin area exceeding 60 million square kilometers. There are more than 100,000 smaller branches and streams. No matter how humanity migrates in the future, there will always be abundant water resources available.

"The temperature still seems a bit high..."

After constructing the waterways, rivers, and lakes, Chang Wei noticed that the temperature remained slightly above average. While it wouldn't cook people alive, there was still a risk of severe sunburns and heatstroke. This was understandable, given the absence of polar ice caps and the presence of geothermal lava seas.

Even the torrential rain that fell continuously would produce white steam upon hitting the ground. However, the temperature was gradually decreasing. Chang Wei speculated that humans might evolve webbed limbs in the future, given that the rain wouldn't stop anytime soon, even though he had already accelerated the process.

Originally, the torrential rains would have lasted for millions of years. Chang Wei condensed this process into mere centuries by using the water to cool and flush the lava-covered ground.

Alice and the others, who had witnessed the entire creation process, felt a sense of loss. Were they now the "new humans"? They would have to adapt to a completely different environment, and even the maps would need to be redrawn. Fortunately, they were not short of geographers.

The scientific expedition team comprised experts from nearly all fields. Even though many members were middle-aged or older, their knowledge and expertise were sufficient, making this an unexpected benefit.

After all, no one initially knew what caused the energy outbreak in the Sahara Desert, so professionals from all potentially relevant fields had been assembled.

Once safety was confirmed, national treasure-level scientists would follow, though this had become an empty promise under current circumstances.

Meanwhile, humanity's development plans led to differing opinions.

The scientists were relatively easy to deal with, as they were mostly free from ambitious motives, aiming only to leave their mark on history or guide humanity's future direction.

The survivors of the Salvation Army, however, were a different matter. Armed with weapons and men, they possessed all the elements for chaos. More importantly, with the outside world wiped out and recreated, the lack of external threats meant they could act as they pleased.

Still, Chang Wei was confident that such chaos would not occur. With Alice and Matt possessing "divine powers" and the likes of Carlos also standing guard, it was unlikely for the fire of civilization he painstakingly protected to descend into internal strife.

Otherwise, to solidify their power, factions might enforce ignorance, destroy knowledge, and regress society to a state of slavery—something Chang Wei found utterly meaningless. The Predator world was already set for reconstruction, and Earth potentially reverting to a primitive society would add nothing of interest to him. Even an imperial era would be preferable.

"Wait, Alice might actually become an emperor..."

Chang Wei pondered the possibility.

After all, telekinesis could be considered a form of spiritual power, and Alice had immense potential. Despite her untapped abilities, she was already a god-like figure in a world without nuclear weapons.

A female emperor? The thought was quite appealing. Moreover, it was uncertain whether the children Alice and Matt might conceive would display dominant or recessive T-virus traits. Would they inherit genetic primacy?

"Too bad I can't accelerate time. Otherwise, I'd love to see this scene..." Chang Wei muttered. Yet, the chances seemed slim. While the admiration of the strong could elevate Alice to a divine messenger, ruler, or leader, becoming an empress or producing genetic primacy seemed unlikely. Matt's T-virus inheritance was too weak, giving their offspring a lifespan of only about a century. Thus, most traits would likely come from the mother.

Feeling a sense of regret, Chang Wei dismissed the idea of lingering to observe human civilization's evolution or playing the role of a caretaker.

The stars, the seas, and the myriad worlds awaited him—there was no time to waste here.

Chang Wei didn't even bid farewell to Alice or Jill, considering it unnecessary. By the time he returned, everything might have changed, and cutting ties now was better for everyone.

"System, lock onto the Resident Evil world!"

[Do you wish to spend 1 billion gene points to lock onto the Resident Evil world?]

"Yes!"

[Locking successful!]

"Goodbye, then."

Chang Wei activated the teleportation.

[Do you wish to spend 1 billion gene points to traverse worlds?]

"Yes."

...

Alice and Jill never got to see Chang Wei again. They assumed he had completed his mission and returned to heaven.

"Why didn't he come to say goodbye?" Jill asked, unwilling to accept it. She had even hoped to drink holy water and ascend to heaven herself.

"Maybe he didn't want to interfere with our choices and destiny moving forward," Alice replied with a smile. She had long come to terms with it, unlike Jill, who was still fixated.

"Let it go, Jill. We have a lot of important work ahead of us..."

...

In the dead of night, within an empty and silent church, a man dressed in a pure white priest's uniform suddenly appeared.

"Huh? Another church?"

Chang Wei looked around, surprised. If not for the subtle differences in layout compared to the Resident Evil church, he would have thought he had returned to the same place.

"Could it be that my priestly attire has somehow linked me to religious movies or works? Constantine?"

Wary of supernatural films, Chang Wei immediately expanded his telepathic senses.

Soon, he sensed approaching figures. Several people in police uniforms burst through the doors, firing frantically at something behind them.

"This looks familiar..."

Chang Wei delved into his vast memory. Soon, he recognized the target of the police gunfire.
