"You shouldn't be here."
As Luca entered the area, his grey eyes searched the darkness for any movement. His voice was low and strained. Sitting on the old stone bench next to the great tree, the pendant around my neck pulsed weakly in the moonlight.
"I could say the same to you," I said, attempting to hide the whirl of feelings within me.
"This place isn't safe, Aria," he murmured, dropping his voice as he approached. Not with the competing pack this near our borders.
I groaned and held the bench's edge. And in where is secure, Luca? Because not even with you does it seem as if anyplace is anymore.
He stopped, his face becoming tighter at what I said. He added gently, "That's not fair."
"Isn't it?" wonders I shot back, my voice shaking. "This link should help us to become closer and strengthen us.
All it does, however, is demonstrate how far you are ready to distance yourself from me.
