Where it all began

The weather was perfect for this ordinary day, with its flaws and lonely sight. The sky stared with its blue, and the sun shined with its light.

"I'm sorry, things happened so fast. I didn't even know what was going on."

This weather was perfect for Monday, the third of August, on the first day of school.

"It's because of my dad's new job. You know he is a family guy, he can't live without us".

Students of the elementary branch finally got to experience their first new year as freshmen.

"I'm sure you are going to make lots of friends. I believe in you that you won't be alone, trust me, everyone wants an introverted friend".

This day couldn't get any_.

"WORSE".

Of course, not everyone has a joyous day, Orette wasn't sure if she felt satisfaction or devastation. Just this morning she found out that her best friend Julia went abroad because of her father's job. She could've told Orette in advance but she was soon told that 'it all happened so fast'.

She couldn't see where all this was heading, her parents were already strict enough to let her skip school. She had no choice but to take her first step toward adulthood, and by that, it meant attending her first high school assembly.

'Not much has changed', she thought after gazing in the hall: the same white walls, the same court, the same stage, and the same students.

"Welcome students to another brand new semester of knowledge and education, I'm your principal, Miss Anya Bishop. We expect a lot of things from you all, as from this day you are expected to showcase your abilities and ideas.". The principal continued to wrap up her speech about the previous students and their success, while the students were intimidated about when this would end.

Orette couldn't help but doze off into her imagination, where it was just her, no one to interrupt, no one to disturb_.

"But before you all begin with your high school days, you will be tested for your classes, and by that I mean pre-course exams", the principal murmured a huge death sentence in just a few seconds.

Whispers of hatred spread across the hall, mummers of curses could be heard from afar and teachers were not delighted by the results.

Thus, the assembly ended with incurable vibes. Orette knew she couldn't expect anything from Monday, the test for her entry to the pre-medical course was already stressing her out. On arriving home, she met none of the family, not even her parents. And neither of them cared less.

Home, school, home, school, home, school_, was a never-ending loop for her. She felt so compressed by stress and anxiety that it was hard to believe she could escape fantasy.

The next morning assembly, things got even more strange. The not-so-kind principle introduced a team of doctors, and scientists more like. A man and a woman with similar features appeared at the front to explain the symptoms of what they called_.

"Syrium. A liquid with supernatural abilities that fuses with one's blood and gives potential to the user", said the man.

The woman stepped forward and continued, "We believe that one of you students has caught traces of this Syrium, with an approximation of 0.008%. It's harmful to the body and needs to be removed immediately".

The word 'Immedeaity' seemed to humor Orette. If it was so dangerous then why aren't they taking proper protocol? Shouldn't the government be involved in this, and why it has to be this school?

"It's like they want us to know", Orette murmured in a whisper. She didn't have the slightest bit of interest in whatever was going on, and neither did she care. All she wanted was to do was to pass.

"Now, we would like to present Dr. Ivan Kuznetsov, a genius doctor of_".

"I think I will take it from here", he said as he stepped away from the dark. Almost, everyone was shocked to see a man in his fifties, a large physique, and a well-kept grey beard. With his smooth entrance, cold fears spread to the inch of the wall. Students were confused to admire or fear his aura.

But one thing they were sure of was that this man had a crippled leg. His cane tapped to the surface of the stage for clear attention, even Orette forgot about the exams and had full focus on him.

"I will just cut to the chase, we will be testing your blood to see if there are any traces of the Syrium. And yes it's necessary, even if it means to force you.", with that he ended his words. At that moment everyone knew that this was no small matter.

The blood test began the same day as the pre-course exam. Orette didn't have the compacity to get her mind straight, she knew she had to test her blood but reluctance got the better of her. Now she had no choice but to call someone to pick her up.

Her waiting in the bath was also a problem for her, washing her face with cold water wasn't making things better. Sweat started to develop on the back of her neck, and her hands started to lose control and shivered.

Finally, one of the schoolmaids told her that her father was there to pick her up. As comforted Orette felt, her father who just arrived looked disappointed. But that didn't affect her one bit, she just wanted to get out of this school, and luckily the guard had no idea about the blood test, so Orette was free to go.

Until the next morning, when things were getting a little too much out of hand. A new announcement was called:

All those who haven't conducted the blood test are requested to attend the assembly hall. I repeat, all those who haven't conducted the blood test are requested to attend the assembly hall.

A come of few kids were seen at the front gate of the assembly hall, some were even dragged forcefully. Those who were already tested were given small gifts, a nice silver ring for girls and vintage watches for boys. None of it concerned Orette in the slightest bit, but for some reason, she felt small and nervous.

The line was short and became shorter. Later it was seen that Dr. Ivan himself was conducting the test. Orette, the final one, gave him a normal glance, but the Dr ignored her while he was preparing the syringe.

She later took a closer look and found a shade of blue in his eyes, cold yet calm, she thought. Almost as if she knows him well.

"Arm", he ordered, and in an instant, Orette listened. The needle entered the soft surface flesh and red blood was pulled out.

For a second, the Dr. glanced at Orette before he uttered, "You have got to be kidding me".

Orette didn't get a clue of what Dr. trying to say, but as soon as her blood was drawn out and tested. The machine responded as positive.

Silence filled between them, not a single word was utter. "I don't believe this. How?", Orette asked the Dr but he didn't look as astonished as he was supposed to. As if he did know her.

"You're thin, your height is small, your eyesight is weak and your brain has limits", He continued, "In order words, you are weaker than other people".

This was true, Orette was below average than many people, in both physique and mind. "I don't want to hear this from you. Your team said that this Syrium was harmful to the body. So please remove it".

Ivan again, stared at Orette for exactly a minute. He crossed both his hands and said, "I'm afraid that can't be done".

Two people from behind grabbed her, making sure Orette wasn't able to move. "What is the meaning of this?!", Orette demanded.

But all she saw was Dr. Ivan, preparing a huge inject gun, that contained a large portion of_.

"This is Syrium, this seems blue to you but believe me each person has their own color. Blue represents chaos, you're chaos, and chaos is you".

The blue Syrium radiated and glimmered with its flares. Orette couldn't wonder what was this mad scientist trying to convey, 'I'm chaos and chaos is me', what is that supposed to mean?

Without further ado, the Doctor orders to bend Orette's neck to get an open to her spinal cord. With damp cotton of alcohol, he wiped the area and carefully injected the Syrium. "I'm just injecting this to its original user".

"Wait, plea_".

A rush was felt, a thrilling sensation and an illuminating bolt hit the head. All of a sudden, she felt the motion of every single person inside the hall, their breathing, heartbeat, sound, and smell gotten sharp until the rush reached her limps and that's where the real pain began.

The pain was so intense that she started weeping blood, it was a mess, and her screams were so loud and clear that Ivan ordered his teammates to release her.

Orette crumbles on the ground, reaching her hand out to Ivan to stop this pain, she begs by her cries but no matter what she has done, it is no use. Soon she was bound with thick metal chains that restrained her limbs and mouth, her eyes were in no shape to open. Pain still hurts her but Dr. Ivan paid no attention.

Instead, he brought in a mirror: a large, round, and expensive mirror. He knocked three times at the glass surface only to see the glass shattered and presented an empty black room. This was not possible but for some reason, it felt completely normal for his team.

His team drags Orette's chained body into the black room and places a dozen bundles of Medical, sociological, and mechanics.

"Sir, are you sure this is alright?", asked one of Dr's team members.

"If you're worried about her then why don't you join her?", Ivan answered him with a straight face. From morning until now, Ivan has shown no emotion, nothing, but a sense of joy rose in him.

The mirror surface closed as the shattered glass from the floor rose and formed back into the clear mirror glass. The black room disappeared, and only his reflection was seen.

With his final glance, Ivan finally said what he wanted to do for seven years.

"Welcome back, 000".
