Qin Siyang looked at Qian Wenzhao, "You want to handle it yourself?"
"Of course," Qian Wenzhao's face was darker than rusted iron, "This matter, I'll handle it myself. Thanks for making the trip. But I still appreciate you pointing me in the right direction."
"I didn't really help much, just shared my thoughts and opinions."
"No. You were right. Someone has been watching me for a while now. If I compromise this time, there will be a next time. Instead of treating the symptoms, I might as well remove the root cause!"
Qin Siyang and Shen Shisong left the Administration Bureau.
———
On the way, Qin Siyang reminded Shen Shisong, "Remember, don't do anything. If there's a need, Section Chief Qian will definitely tell you. If you encounter a problem, don't rush into action. Contact me first, understand?"
Shen Shisong was older than Qin Siyang, but he still unconsciously took Qin Siyang's words seriously. He nodded, "I got it."
Qin Siyang was very worried. Shen Shisong wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, if he caught the slightest sign of trouble, he might panic and end up making things worse.
Fortunately, even though Shen Shisong was a bit slow, he at least listened to advice.
What's really troublesome are those who lack ability but still think they know everything and refuse to listen.
"Alright, let's leave it at that. We'll stay in touch if anything comes up."
"Mm, thanks!", Shen Shisong never expected that one day he'd be thanking the guy who kidnapped him, stole his phone, and took his Sequence potion.
But there was no doubt, right now, Qin Siyang was an ally standing on the same front as his uncle.
After leaving the Administration Bureau, Qin Siyang headed to the police station.
He wanted to meet Olov first to get a sense of the situation and probe whether Wen Shu was behind this.
———
At the police station entrance, the security guard at the reception stopped him.
"Who are you? What's your business here?"
"I'm here to see Inspector Olov. He wanted to speak with me about the case of the three murders on the street yesterday."
The guard was aware of the shocking case from yesterday and didn't dare delay. He quickly called Olov's office.
"Hello, Inspector Olov? Someone's here to see you, says you called him over..."
The guard looked up at Qin Siyang, "What's your name?"
"Qin Siyang."
"He says his name is Qin Siyang. Okay, okay, I understand. Goodbye."
After hanging up, the guard pointed, "Follow the hallway, second office on the left. Inspector Olov is waiting for you inside."
"Thank you."
Qin Siyang walked to the office door and knocked lightly.
"Come in."
Pushing the door open, he saw Olov again, his silver hair was unchanged, and so was his attire. The ever-present scarf around his neck and the same old trench coat.
"Have a seat. I'll pour you some tea."
Olov got up, took a teacup, and placed it on the desk. Then, he picked up a kettle and poured a cup of yellow tea, "Not quite like the tea you easterners prefer. Try it."
Qin Siyang sat down, holding the cup and blowing on the steam, "There's no 'Easterner' or 'Westerner' anymore. After the apocalypse, we're all under the same United Government."
Olov picked up a pen and started writing something on paper.
"I didn't expect you to come looking for me on your own."
"The case is too big. I'm afraid it might actually bring me trouble, so I figured I'd clear myself as soon as possible."
Olov smiled, "You're quite straightforward."
"Talking in circles with you is just a waste of time."
Olov nodded and sighed, "Roylena used to say the same thing."
"Roylena? That deceased police officer?"
"Yes. You didn't know her?"
"Maybe I've heard of her. Maybe I've seen her. I don't really remember. The only one from the police station I interact with daily is you, I haven't paid attention to anyone else."
"That's true. Our interactions run quite deep."
"I'd say we know each other, but 'deep interaction' might be a stretch."
Olov put down his pen, clasped his hands together on the desk, and looked at Qin Siyang, "If you didn't have a solid alibi, I probably would've reported you right away, arrested you, and tortured a confession out of you."
"Inspector Olov, that sounds rather biased. Not very police-like."
Olov nodded slowly, "Let's drop that topic. I called you here to ask about Zhou Yang."
"Go ahead."
"When Zhou Yang left the hospital, where were you?"
Qin Siyang thought for a moment and said, "Inspector Olov, I'd guess that when Zhou Yang left the hospital, you were right there next to him. Otherwise, how else could you have dispatched a female officer to follow him and his mother so quickly?"
"If you were next to him, then you should know, I left a long time ago, right?"
Olov picked up his tea cup, "Still as cautious as ever."
"Just a reasonable deduction."
"Fine, then I won't ask about you anymore. After all, you're not a suspect. Do you know if Zhou Yang had any enemies?"
Qin Siyang shrugged, "I'd say his biggest enemy was me, I killed his father. Other than me, I doubt he had any other enemies."
"Fair point."
Olov sighed. The investigation had come full circle again.
Qin Siyang asked, "Inspector Olov, has Li Jingwen been found?"
"Why are you asking about her? You're not involved in her disappearance either, are you?"
"I just have a bold theory."
"Let's hear it."
Qin Siyang scooted his chair forward, leaned on the desk, and said, "Do you think there's a chance that Li Jingwen's family was actually killed by Zhou Yang and his father? That Li Jingwen witnessed everything and managed to escape? And after she got away, she awakened a Sequence ability, then came back for revenge, killing Zhou Yang and his mother?"
Olov snorted, "Are you telling me a fairy tale?"
"I just think this theory, while bold, makes a lot of sense!"
"Think about it, because of Li Jingwen, Zhou Yang offended me and almost got disowned by his uncle. Wouldn't his father, in a fit of rage, have wanted to eliminate Li Jingwen's entire family to cut off any loose ends?"
"That would explain why Li Jingwen disappeared, she was hiding, waiting for revenge. Then she awakened a Sequence ability, came back to kill, only to find that I had already killed Zhou Yang's father. So she decided to finish the job with Zhou Yang and his mother."
Olov nodded, "Your theory is certainly bold. But there's one problem."
"What problem?"
"If Li Jingwen came back for revenge, why didn't she kill you too?"
"Kill me?", Qin Siyang chuckled, "How could she kill me? My Sequence ability is way too strong."
"Alright, enough nonsense. I know you're not involved, and you don't have any useful clues. Go home and stop wasting my time."
Qin Siyang pouted, "I was just offering some helpful insight..."
"Flush your damn insight down the toilet."
"Fine, since you're sure this has nothing to do with me and won't bother me anymore, I'll be on my way."
Qin Siyang pushed his chair back and left the office.
As he stepped out, Olov's phone rang.
"Hello? Yes, it's me. Good day, Chief! Yes, I'll take charge of this case. Yes, I'll do my best to solve it. Right now... right now, we don't have any clear suspects, but don't worry. Yes...."
Outside the office, Qin Siyang overheard the first couple of sentences before striding away from the police station.
