The student council consists of two parts; The student body, the student board, with the highest being the council president. The position is held by school recommendation, revision of character and obviously, a vote. Needless to say, the position was all the perks.
Everyone was a part of the student council, but the more functional part of it was obviously the student board, but since they were simply a representative, every decision they made was supposedly on the behalf of all other students.
It was said that all in the academy had two wishes; 'get in the student board, and dont piss them off'. There was no ordinary on the campus that did not fear the student board. Thank goodness I wasn't ordinary. After surviving two life threatening encounters with beings older than time, it was going to take more than a few kids playing politics to stop me.
I sat up and in a quick motion swatted the mosquito on my foot, cracked my fingers, stood up and had a stretch.
"What are you doing?" Anne asked me, looking at me weirdly.
"Getting ready for school. You think that they would request a first year, who has only lived on campus for one year, to talk? With a seemingly official letter, no location or statement of proper officiation. And then the fun part. According to the Academium Archive, page 1, students within their first month are immune to requests and invitations if not given as a result of clear violation of school law. According to page 21, challenge to authority is permitted, as an act of survival, and against tyranny. I'm not meeting with no one.
"How do you know the Academium Archive? Almost no one in the first year knows it"
"I studied it, a long time ago. I just didn't know that it applied here. I'm going to have so much fun"
She took a huge breath, her head now down as she thought of the situation.
"Make sure that you're not making a mistake. They are powerful."
"They might be powerful, but I'm unstoppable. Dont worry, they're nothing. I've been studying the art of the diplomat for a while now"
"Uh-huh. You're uniform is in the wardrobe. The last one to the left"
Our uniform was a black shirt and pants with gold stripes, gloves with gold knuckles and a black and gold jacket, with black boots and a black cap or hat of choice.
Today I groomed myself well, the confidence radiating all around me.
"Going without saying goodbye?"
"Uh-Oh Goo-"
"Just go you goof" Anne said as she laughed off merrily.
Our classes were held in brick rooms, the hostel and the main school area next to the training and spar grounds, on purpose. In Yulo, strength was king, and even the slightest form of miscommunication was taken to the spar grounds.
I walked down the hallway, as many students basically marveled at my presence, some even pointing, like I was some God.
I checked the general timetable, and we had history and strategy classes.
I walked into class. I was greeted with stares as I took my seat next to Kyle.
"Not even a subtle greeting, mister?" I heard a voice at the front of the class say. As soon as I heard the voice, I looked in front of me. I looked back down in disappointment. It was a student, Atoinette, a well known teachers pet who was hit on for her beauty, but a brat when it counts. An opportunistic pain in the back, a complete washoff.
"Good morning Mr Yosef" I said as I quickly sat back down to go through my school bag Anne gifted me, amid all the giggles and snickers.
She wore glasses, her skin soft and pale, so it was easy to know when she was red. I didn't piss her off, I hope.
"Yo, she's on the board. Its best you dont lose control of yourself. You dont want yourself getting an invitation to a meeting on your second month" Kyle leaned closer to me as he spoke clearly holding in his laughter.
"Cadet 101, please depart my lecture. Before you leave, I would like an apology. Would you rather have to say it here, or at the board? I know you're a smart young man, you should be able to manage yourself accordingly" she hit back.
"Oh, sorry if pushed a few buttons. According to the registry outside of our classroom, I clearly read that Mr. Noir Yosef is assigned to teach this class the history and strategy curse for this semester. I wished to not interrupt your class, that was why I avoided the greeting. I referred to you as Mr. Yosef so that I can regard you as the official teacher, and therefore treat you with the same level of respect"
"For a start, you shall refer to me as Miss Atoinette, or Miss. Do not play games with me"
"I understand. I will sit down now"
"That was so cool dude. You should teach us someday how you talk like that"
"Try reading books for 10 years. Then you should come close" I replied Kyle.
"Alright everyone. Today we shall look at one of history's most famous heroes. Does anyone know of Xilan, the Godhand?" she said enthusiastically.
Everyone raised their hand up quickly. My hand stayed down.
"Cadet 101, where did you live? Under a rock?" she made jest of me. Some students snickered.
"You should be more focused on educating these students than using your energy just to be a little more overbearing. Please carry on"
At this point she was a little angry. A kind of pissed off, the silent kind.
"Cadet 101 why dont you come teach the class? Mr. know it all" a she said as she got off the stage that elevated her before the class. The structure of class was ascending, form the entrance the class sloped upwards, so that the teacher was the main attraction.
"The honor is mine" I got up and jumped stylishly to the podium.
"I believe the topic today is the Geddish war" I cleared my throat as I began my lecture.
"Ten years ago, the War of Geddon erupted, igniting a fierce conflict between the Murim Orthodox Faction and the sinister Demonic Cult. This brutal struggle over the fertile lands of Geddon scorched the earth for four harrowing months, until tragedy struck—the sudden, mysterious death of the head of the Murim Alliance sent shockwaves through the region.
In the ensuing chaos, factions turned against one another, torn apart by greed and ambition. Blood flowed like rivers as families fought relentlessly for control, while the Demonic Cult unleashed its own wave of carnage, leaving devastation in its wake. The skies darkened with despair as alliances crumbled, and hope was but a flicker amidst the ruins.
Just when it seemed that annihilation was inevitable, a figure emerged from the shadows—Xilan, a formidable strategist with unparalleled prowess. With meticulous cunning, Xilan subdued the leaders of all major forces, forging uneasy alliances and compelling them to the negotiating table. In a dramatic turn of fate, he forced them to agree to a fragile 14-year treaty of no war, a pact that would serve as a tenuous lifeline to a shattered realm.
Yet beneath the surface, old resentments simmered, and the whispers of betrayal echoed through the land, hinting that the end of conflict was merely the calm before a storm"
"And what was the strategy involved? How and why would he do that?" Antoinette asked, yawning.
"It is simple. Since this is history, I will not delve into the intricate details of how he captured the leaders, but the motives are clear—he wielded their capture as a powerful negotiation tool. Imagine a sibling rivalry, where one sibling holds the upper hand in a game, only to let the other win at the last moment. This strategic compassion was the essence of Xilan's approach. He wanted them to understand that he could erase them without a trace, yet he chose to keep them alive, a gesture that conveyed his control and authority.
By proposing a 14-year treaty, he cleverly marked the timeframe not just as a respite from war, but as a transitional period aligning with the legal age for joining Murim's militia. This was no coincidence; during this time, he anticipated a new generation of leaders—more astute and open to authentic dialogue—who could steer the conversation toward lasting peace. After all, in the grand tapestry of conflict, no one truly emerges victorious, and wisdom born from age and experience could foster a more genuine discussion.
Moreover, he emphasized his role in these negotiations, making it explicit that he would not intervene to stop another uprising. This declaration framed the treaty as a calculated bargain, enhancing the allure of the agreement. By casting himself as a facilitator rather than a dictator, he positioned the deal in a light that promised potential stability, subtly encouraging all parties to embrace the taste of diplomacy rather than the bitterness of continued bloodshed"
