Chapter: 47

Roman's POV
A sudden wave of sweat broke out across my skin, despite the air conditioning humming steadily in my office. My hands trembled as I reached for the telephone on my desk, my fingers slipping as I hurriedly scrambled to dial the right numbers. It took me a second—maybe longer—to get it right, but the moment I did, I pressed the receiver to my ear, my pulse hammering.
The phone rang twice before a groggy voice answered.
"Hello, sir?"
Elena. My PA. I could tell she'd been sleeping; her voice was hoarse, sluggish. Under normal circumstances, I might have let it slide, but not today.
"There's no time for that," I said sharply. "Stop Elder Dominic. He must not leave this premise. Tell him I sent for him, and make sure he stays put. If he steps beyond the gates, consider yourself unemployed."
