As we were about to head out to look for Leo, Elvis came out of the room in a hurry and ran towards us.
The collar of his shirt was undone, his hair was all messy, he was completely red in the face, and he had a weird smell covering his whole body.
"Hey, can I join you guys? I'm just as lost as you here, since I spent most of my life training and studying; I haven't had many opportunities to make friends here." Elvis asked us; he had already wrapped his arm around me.
"Yeah, why not? The more the better." I answered.
"Weren't you busy with that maid, young master?" The maid asked him.
What's with this maid? How can she be so bold to us? We're her masters, for fuck's sake. Tonight I should… nah, maybe I should just endure it.
The mere thought of confronting my mother seemed like a Herculean task; fearing all kinds of possible punishment, I decided it was better to simply ignore her; Elvis, on the other hand, didn't seem as smart.
"Nah, I'm finished now; moreover, if Ilay catches me with her, he might just try to kill me. I wonder if he'll enjoy the present I left for him." He talked to himself, his eyes gleaming with a strange glow.
Can you stop talking so indirectly? I can hardly understand what you're talking about. What does that maid have to do with Elvis now?
The look of the maid went from condemning to pure disgust; if she could, she would've probably spat on his face.
"What the hell did you do to make him that angry?" I asked him.
"You're not planning on ratting me out, are you?" He jokingly answered while avoiding my questions; he then began walking ahead, dragging me along with him.
What the hell have you done to be so nervous? No way, don't tell me, is that maid the one that Ilay told me was… No… You wouldn't!
In reality, what I had in mind was leagues tamer than what happened in the room, but what was worse was the fact that the maid was in on it. How could she have agreed to it when she already had my oldest cousin wrapped around her fingers?
"You… I mean… how will your brother react? Why?" I couldn't even put into words my thoughts; the situation was so wild it made my head spin.
"Let's not talk about that; anyway, you said you wanted to meet Leon, right? Let me guess… he would probably be at…" He was in deep thought, thinking of all the possible places his brother might have run to.
He then began naming a bunch of places I've never heard of before, like "The Yellow Pit" or "The Virtual Arena," and so on. When we got out of the house, he was still naming places.
We met his father outside; he was smoking with someone. He probably barely caught a whiff of our scent and then immediately summoned his chains.
"Get down, young master!" The maid was quick to react; as she was shouting, she tackled me to the ground in order to avoid getting hit by the uncle's attack directed at Elvis.
I was confused; why would he attack us? What the hell is happening?
"What do you think you're doing? Elvis?" The uncle said, barely holding back his anger. Each step he made made the ground beneath tremble, violently pushing away the air beneath his feet, clearing all the dust he had lifted with his attack.
He walked past us and headed directly for Elvis, who was still on the ground, injured. His right arm had been broken on impact, and his body was full of scratches from rolling and tumbling on the hard floor.
"Young master, we should get away from here as soon as possible." The maid kept pulling me away, her tail hiding between her legs with her ears flat.
Seeing my lack of reaction, she took matters into her own hands and picked me up and carried me away as the uncle and Elvis began to fight in the middle of the road. That was also the first time I saw him with horns on his head.
What the…
He had the same form as the uncle I saw in the wedding photo of my parents, with horns and weird dark marks all over his body in the shape of hearts, with a big one around his pecs and one just above his crotch, a long dark tail, and red horns.
The fight didn't last long, as the uncle was able to successfully tackle Elvis and pin him to the ground; he then rained punches on him until Elvis returned back to normal.
After covering his whole body with chains, he dragged him back inside the house.
"Is he going to be okay?" I asked the maid that was rushing me back to my house.
"Most likely." The maid answered.
"I think we should stay away from the house, young master." She then added that in between her pants, she was seemingly out of breath despite not having moved much.
"I don't think I'll be able to protect you from that man; I was barely able to react in time to his attack." She explained after she turned around the corner and the entrance of the house was no longer in sight.
"I doubt the uncle is going to hurt me; Elvis probably deserved it since he did something bad." I tried to justify.
Yeah... surely, I mean, the uncle adores me… The maid definitely overreacted; the attack was too high up to land on me… surely.
"Do you know any of the places Elvis said Leo could be in?" I then asked her.
She turned her head around to look at me shocked; the sudden shift in her expression was funny. Her panicked expression washed away immediately as she looked at me flabbergasted.
She then put me down, grabbed me, and began dragging me back to my house.
"Hey! I don't want to go back already! Can't we just explore a little? I still haven't made any new friends up here! Come on!" I protested, trying to resist the maid, using my heels to anchor myself to the ground, but whenever I did, she would simply pull me upward to stop me and would then keep dragging me.
"You still have plenty of time; tomorrow you'll have to register in the new school, you'll have to complete a bunch of tests to see what class you can join, and you should study more so that you won't humiliate yourself tomorrow." She replied to me as she began to drag me away using both her hands.
No! I've studied enough in the past week; I can definitely take a short pause to enjoy myself. Let go of me!
When we reached our house, my mother was waiting in front of the entrance, her face red, nervously tapping her right foot into the ground as she looked around. The moment she noticed us, she rapidly came over, huffing and puffing.
Ah, fuck!
"M-m-mom, I-I can explain—" She didn't listen to me; she grabbed me by the ear and dragged me back inside.
Thankfully my body didn't feel any pain; however, I didn't try to fight back in fear my mom might rip the ear off my body.
I was dragged back to my room, where a bunch of tutors were already ready with their exams in hand. They had even installed a desk during my absence.
Hold on, do we really have to be in such a rush? School is still a couple months away from now; we could just… Take it easy; study slowly, one thing at a time, maybe a couple of hours a day, and then…
My mother then slammed the first piece of paper in front of me; it was still warm, fresh from the printer. On the top right was today's date and some empty space for me to write a first and last name.
I raised my head to look at my mother; she was almost glaring at me. She tapped twice on the test, and seeing as she wasn't budging in the slightest, I exhaled and turned back to the sheet of paper.
The first test was regarding geography. It asked me about a bunch of stuff I had never heard before; I ignored all the open-ended questions and placed my faith in the multiple-choice questions, rolling imaginary dice in my head before choosing the answer.
Needless to say, when I turned it over, the looks I received weren't all that welcoming; they were clearly looking down on me; some even scoffed at the result; some mocked me; my mother ignored it and slammed the next piece of paper in front of me.
She was angry at me, I could tell, mainly because she slammed the piece with enough strength to leave a mark on the wooden table.
Why do I have to humiliate myself like this?
"Is this what you've been doing in my absence?" My mother asked me.
Ah, I'm fucked, aren't I?
