Evelyn chopped off the vegetables on the cabinet lost in her thoughts. She had received a text message from her father telling her that her sister would be back today.
She sighed, childhood memories swirling through her head. They were so close, too close infact. They were both inseparable, Evelyn could clearly remember the joy in her parents tone when they had a family dinner at night and both of them got angry at each other, it had been a playful one, one in which they reconciled after a hug. Evelyn could remember her mother's warm gaze and her father's proud stare.
Though they love them both, Their mom loved Evelyn more given she was the first child, she also loved her sister but that couldn't amount to the fact that Evelyn was her favourite. On the other hand, Thomas favoured her younger sister more than her. He loved them both but the favouritism was obvious.
Selena, Their mother later died of an unknown illness, devastated by the death of his wife, Thomas made a decision, both Evelyn and her sister would be in different places. Evelyn was to stay with him and he took her younger sister abroad for more studying.
Evelyn couldn't remember the last time when she saw her sister, probably when she was seven years of age...she guessed, Evelyn tried to be like her sister in the house especially when her father was always home, now that she was to stay with him, he didn't give her much attention as he did when their mother was still alive. He cared though, she stopped trying, she lived her life occasionally hearing from her sister once a year.
Evelyn smiled as she recollected the memories, funny how she got the news of her return when she thought she wasn't going to come back.
Evelyn had finished cooking, patiently watching a reality show when a knock interrupted her.
She walked up to open the mansion's gate and opened it, curiosity dancing in her eyes at who might be at the gate.
