"What's your problem, James? I already told you—I'm going to Lily's house."
James let out another long sigh. He released Jennie's hand and shook his head.
"And I already told you not to get involved in their marriage, Jen. You know how Alger is, right? You used to be friends with him too—so why can't you see for yourself what kind of person he is? Alger hates it when people step into his personal matters."
"What's so wrong with me helping? If I really wanted to break them up, then you could be mad. I'm Lily's friend too—whether she sees me that way or not—but I can't just stand by and watch her and Alger keep going in circles like this. And sure, Hanny was my friend, but after how she changed, I stopped considering her one."
"That's exactly the problem. If you hadn't introduced Hanny to Alger, none of this would've happened."
