After getting dressed, Kino summoned his Doppelganger Demons.
"Greetings, Your Majesty," the Doppelganger Demons bowed respectfully.
"Doppelganger Demons, make a contract with her," Kino ordered, pointing at the Dark Phoenix.
"Understood," the two Doppelganger Demons stepped forward and quickly produced a contract.
"The price is that you must spend one minute each day staring at another version of yourself. Would you like to modify the terms?" they asked humbly. To them, it was obvious that this was the future queen.
"No need. This is fine," the Dark Phoenix answered decisively.
"The contract is sealed."
As the words fell, knowledge of how to use her new powers appeared instantly in the Dark Phoenix's mind.
With their task complete, the Doppelganger Demons tactfully disappeared.
Without hesitation, the Dark Phoenix activated her ability. In a flash of light, two identical figures appeared side by side.
Jean, who had been lying on the ground, shivered and slowly opened her eyes.
"Kino... and another me? Am I dreaming?"
"Coward, you're finally awake," the Dark Phoenix said with a mocking smile.
"Who are you? And why are you wearing my clothes?" Jean stood up and looked at the Dark Phoenix in confusion. She could sense an inexplicable connection between them.
"Jean, maybe you should get dressed first," Kino suggested, conjuring a set of clothes and handing them to her.
"Thanks," Jean accepted the clothes silently and began changing without hesitation. After all, they had already seen everything.
Kino averted his gaze. Even though he had already seen her naked, watching a beautiful woman get dressed still had its temptations.
"Not so cowardly now, are you?" the Dark Phoenix teased, folding her arms across her chest.
"Why do you keep calling me a coward? And who exactly are you?" Jean asked, frowning.
"I'm the Dark Phoenix. Weren't you the one talking to me in your head all the time? Did you forget so quickly?"
"That wasn't just my imagination?" Jean's eyes widened in shock. She had thought those voices were just her inner monologue.
"Of course not. You were constantly babbling. What kind of personality does Kino like? Does he prefer women older than himself? And..."
"Shut up!" Jean lunged forward in embarrassment, her face turning crimson.
It was like having all your secret thoughts revealed in front of the person you liked—pure humiliation.
With a snap of her fingers, the Dark Phoenix froze Jean mid-air. Jean's body became motionless, as though bound by an invisible force.
Jean's heart pounded in disbelief. "Telekinesis? That's my ability. How do you have it?"
She struggled to break free using her own psychic powers, but it was like pushing against an immovable mountain.
"Your self-imposed limits are no match for me. And that's not all. How about this?" the Dark Phoenix said, relishing Jean's stunned expression. Finally free from the darkness that had suppressed her for so long, she reveled in her new-found freedom.
With a mere touch of her finger, Jean's clothing began to disintegrate into molecules, exposing patches of pale skin.
Yet, Jean did not panic. First, Kino was there. Second, she could sense that this other self held no true malice.
"Boring," the Dark Phoenix huffed, sensing Jean's lack of fear. She released Jean, allowing her to drop to the ground, and then playfully clung to Kino from behind.
"Kino, I want ice cream."
"I told you, one per day," Kino replied with a helpless smile.
"This is a new body, so it doesn't count," she retorted cheekily.
Watching the Dark Phoenix act so affectionately toward Kino, Jean's mind replayed memories from the bathroom. She finally understood the Dark Phoenix's origins.
"Kino, is she my second personality? Did you separate us?" Jean asked.
"That's one way to put it," Kino admitted.
"But why do I even have a second personality?" Jean pressed, her confusion deepening.
Kino turned his head to the Dark Phoenix. "Didn't you unlock her sealed memories?"
"I released some of them, but after I emerged, I sealed them again. She's not ready yet," the Dark Phoenix explained.
Although she enjoyed teasing Jean, she didn't genuinely hate her.
"She has to face it sooner or later. It's better to resolve hidden dangers early," Kino said firmly.
"Alright, I trust you," the Dark Phoenix agreed without hesitation.
Jean, still puzzled, watched their exchange in silence. What were they talking about?
Before she could process it, the Dark Phoenix's psychic powers pierced her mind, effortlessly unsealing her suppressed memories.
Jean froze in place, staggering backward as childhood memories flooded her consciousness.
When her powers first awakened, she had caused a car accident that led to her mother's death.
"Ahhhh!" she screamed, overwhelmed by the pain of recollection.
A series of powerful psychic shockwaves erupted from her body, slamming into the room's walls. Without Kino's bio-force field shielding the area, everything would have been reduced to rubble.
Objects in the room flew around chaotically.
Jean, lost in the torment of her memories, unleashed her psychic energy without restraint. Even without the Phoenix Force, she was still an Omega-level mutant.
"Dark Phoenix, protect yourself," Kino instructed.
"Don't worry. No matter how powerful she is, she can't hurt me," the Dark Phoenix said confidently.
Nodding, Kino began moving toward Jean. The closer he got, the stronger the shockwaves became, as if rejecting anyone from approaching her.
Yet, despite the destructive force—more potent than a missile—Kino advanced as though he were walking through a gentle breeze.
When he reached her, he silently pulled Jean into his embrace and wrapped her in a warm blanket.
"Little firefly, little firefly..." Kino began to hum softly, his voice gentle and soothing. His father had used this lullaby to calm him as a child, and it had never failed.
Though the words held no meaning, the melody echoed through the room like a warm, calming wave.
In Kino's arms, Jean's tears gradually stopped, and her psychic outburst subsided.
The Dark Phoenix, watching from the side, felt a pang of envy. She could sense the overwhelming sorrow in Jean's heart being comforted by Kino's embrace.
"Thank you. I'm fine now," Jean whispered eventually, lifting her head from the blanket with clear eyes.
"Good. How do you feel?" Kino asked gently.
"Still angry. Why did the Professor seal my memories without my consent?" Jean's voice trembled with rage as she clutched the blanket tightly.
"Don't blame him," Kino sighed. "Back then, you were drowning in guilt and pain. If he hadn't sealed those memories, you might not have survived. One day, I'll bring your mother back to life."
Kino was willing to go to great lengths for someone under his protection.
"A wound may heal, but the scar it leaves behind tells a story only the heart can truly understand."
