"Resurrection, Chino, you said you can resurrect my mother!"
Jean's eyes widened instantly, filled with disbelief and excitement. Her voice trembled slightly due to the overwhelming emotions.
"I can, but my energy is insufficient right now. It will take some time."
"Thank you, really, thank you." Jean wrapped her fair arms around Chino, her red lips pressing softly against his.
Chino froze for a moment. How many times had he been forcefully kissed by now?
"Hey, coward, that's enough. It's my turn to hug Chino now."
The Black Phoenix stepped forward, pulling Jean away with a face full of dissatisfaction. "Stop clinging to him now that you're not crying."
"Thank you too, Black Phoenix."
Jean embraced the Black Phoenix and kissed her several times. Over the years, the Black Phoenix had borne all her pain.
"Ugh, you pervert, let go of me." The Black Phoenix struggled hard to free herself.
"Thank you," Jean said again, her voice filled with deep gratitude.
The Next Day
The group gathered beneath a massive tree.
"This tree is huge. All the plants in Hell are connected to it, and judging by its bark, it is still in its juvenile stage," Hank observed, walking around the tree with fascination.
Logan pulled Kurt aside.
"Kurt, you're impressive—you managed to hook up with a she-demon in just one night," Logan teased, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
"No, I just asked her for directions," Kurt's face flushed red as he hurriedly explained.
"Oh, come on. Do you need to stand so close to ask for directions?" Logan scoffed, clearly not believing him.
Last night while drinking, Logan had seen Kurt laughing and chatting intimately with a tall, red-skinned she-demon.
"Scott, what's wrong with you? You look as pale as a corpse," Logan remarked, turning his attention to the weary-looking Scott.
"Nothing, I'm just a bit tired from yesterday," Scott replied weakly.
He hadn't expected Hell to have such... interesting places. Thinking about last night's dreams made him reluctant to leave Hell.
"Uncle Charles, who are we waiting for?" Nina asked curiously.
Erik had entrusted his wife and daughter to an old friend instead of taking them with him.
"We're waiting for our king," Charles replied gently, looking at Nina with the same warmth as if she were his own child.
With his old friend's return, Charles's hatred toward humanity had diminished considerably, and the future of mutants seemed hopeful. Everything was moving in a positive direction.
Ororo, meanwhile, kept her eyes on the palace. Soon, a group emerged from within. Leading the way was Jean, who skipped ahead cheerfully, chatting animatedly with their king.
"Jean, how did you sleep last night?" Ororo called out.
Upon hearing her voice, Jean turned her beautiful eyes toward Ororo. She bent down slightly, adopting a sprinter's starting posture. Then, without warning, she dashed toward Ororo's position at full speed.
Surprised by Jean's sudden burst of energy, Ororo nonetheless smiled warmly and opened her arms wide to receive her friend's affectionate embrace.
However, what happened next shocked her.
Jean sprinted past Ororo and, with a powerful leap, delivered a fierce flying kick aimed directly at Charles.
"Die, you bald old man!" she shouted angrily.
Caught completely off guard, Professor X took the blow to his lower back. With a dull thud, he rolled across the ground like a bowling pin, tumbling several times before coming to a stop.
The X-Men stood frozen in place, their mouths agape, struggling to process the unbelievable scene before them.
None of them could have anticipated that Jean—whom Charles trusted and cherished—would suddenly attack him so viciously.
For a moment, the entire group was paralyzed with shock, unable to react.
"That felt amazing. I've wanted to do that for ages," the Black Phoenix remarked, fixing her tousled hair. The intense satisfaction on her face suggested that years of bottled-up negative emotions had finally been released.
"Uncle Charles!" Nina was the first to snap out of it, rushing to Charles's side and struggling to help him up.
Ororo, realizing what had happened, quickly stepped in front of Jean with a face full of anger.
"Jean, what are you doing?!" she demanded.
As her gaze met Jean's eyes—now black as ink—Ororo's heart sank. This wasn't the kind, gentle friend she knew.
Alarmed, Ororo instinctively stepped back, her eyes glowing with white energy as she prepared for battle.
"You're not Jean. What did you do to her?" she demanded.
At the same time, Logan and the others surrounded Jean. With a metallic snikt, Logan unsheathed his adamantium claws. Scott's visor began to glow red, and Kurt tensed, ready to teleport.
The atmosphere grew tense.
Hank, meanwhile, knelt beside Charles and lifted his shirt to examine the injury. Seeing only dust and no visible wounds, he shook his head in exasperation.
Nina and Jenna noticed this as well, but before they could speak, Charles opened his eyes and quietly motioned for silence. Nina covered her mouth and nodded in understanding.
Hank sighed inwardly. It was clear that Charles had done something to deserve this, and now he was playing the victim. Some things never changed.
"If you're looking for the coward, he's over there. I'm the Black Phoenix," she declared, pointing at Chino's side, where another Jean stood quietly.
The X-Men shifted their focus, stunned to see two identical Jeans—one with dark eyes and one with her usual soft gaze.
"Jean, who is she?" Ororo asked in confusion, glancing back and forth between the two.
Jean approached the Black Phoenix and explained, "Black Phoenix is another personality of mine."
"Then why did she kick the professor?" Logan asked bluntly.
"Because my second personality was created by him," Jean replied coldly. "He sealed away parts of my memory without my permission."
Her expression was a mix of anger and concern as she looked at the fallen Charles. No one liked having their memories tampered with, but years of affection for her mentor couldn't simply be erased.
Logan retracted his claws immediately. He knew the pain of lost and tampered memories all too well.
"Let's go talk about last night's fine liquor," Logan said, dragging Scott and Kurt away.
"I want to try it next time," Kurt chimed in.
"But the professor—" Scott started.
"He'll be fine," Logan shrugged. "If she wanted to kill him, it wouldn't have been a kick."
Ororo couldn't find words to refute that. Given what Charles had done, maybe he deserved worse.
At that moment, Charles conveniently "regained consciousness" and stood up weakly with Hank's help.
"Jean, you've regained your memories," he said, his voice filled with warmth.
"Yes, Professor. Do you have anything to say?" Jean asked.
"I'm proud of you," Charles smiled. "You've mastered your powers and let go of the past. I apologize—I was arrogant and did not trust you. I'm sorry."
As he spoke, he tried to bow, but Jean held his shoulders, preventing him.
"I forgive you, Professor," she said softly.
"The weight of our past should not shackle us from embracing the future."
