Chapter 97 - CHAPTER 97

Yakexi was the first to shake his head and said, "I'm a chef, and I may have to go to sea to find suitable ingredients, so I won't eat a Devil Fruit."

"Otherwise, it would be very inconvenient when I need to swim. I have gloves to protect myself, and I don't really need self-healing abilities."

Caesar nodded and then asked the others to discuss who would eat the fruit.

Gnali and Hades declined, leaving Eli as the most suitable candidate.

In the end, the self-healing Devil Fruit was given to Eli.

Eli, who had just eaten the fruit, was both excited and grateful. He said earnestly, "Thank you! You let me, a newcomer, obtain such a powerful ability as soon as I boarded the ship!"

"I will never let you down! But… this fruit really tastes awful."

As he forced himself to swallow, Eli suppressed the urge to vomit, all while expressing gratitude toward Caesar and the others.

His facial expression twisted into something indescribable.

Brad, watching sympathetically, said, "If you think it tastes that bad, why take so many bites? You only need to eat one mouthful to gain its power."

"What?" Eli, who had already swallowed the whole fruit, was dumbfounded. "Why didn't you say that earlier?"

"You didn't ask." Brad shrugged. "I thought you were just really hungry."

Eli was speechless.

After finishing the fruit, Eli took the axe from his waist and slashed his own arm.

Blood gushed out immediately.

Eli had used considerable force in his attack, and the axe was quite sharp. It left a deep wound, exposing the bone.

Caesar frowned. "It's just a test of your self-healing ability. Did you really need to go that far?"

Eli gritted his teeth through the pain. "It's fine! I want to see how strong this fruit's healing is. In battle, if I get injured, it would at least be this serious, right? I need to figure out how long it takes to heal wounds of this level."

Caesar nodded without saying more.

As they spoke, Eli's wound healed before their eyes.

The bleeding stopped almost instantly, leaving behind only a faint trace of blood.

Even though he had inflicted such a deep wound, the healing process was so fast that he hadn't lost much blood. The recovery rate was astonishing.

If this level of healing applied to ordinary injuries in combat, wouldn't it make them negligible?

The rest of the crew looked on enviously.

After all, this was just the initial stage. With time and mastery over his Devil Fruit ability, Eli's regeneration would only improve.

And if Eli ever awakened his Devil Fruit…

Could he heal others at this speed?

If so, the Caesar Pirates would have more than half a ship's worth of doctors.

It would be a double milk configuration.

Caesar thought to himself, Although this recovery ability isn't as great as Marco's Phoenix Fruit, it's still incredible. But I wonder… could he extend this ability to others once awakened?

For now, Eli hadn't reached that stage, so Caesar set the thought aside.

He turned back to the crew and said, "Let's move on. We've seen enough of the self-healing fruit. Let's check the ability of the fourth Devil Fruit."

The fourth Devil Fruit had a pear-like shape. Its off-white surface was covered in intricate patterns resembling tornado spirals.

Its peculiar design immediately caught the crew's attention.

"Could this be a Logia-type Hurricane Fruit? The patterns look like a tornado."

"If it really is a Hurricane Fruit, its full potential could allow control over typhoons and tornadoes!"

"On the sea, its destructive power would be immense—especially against a fleet full of Devil Fruit users."

"This would be a top-tier fruit for creating natural disasters!"

"Caesar, check the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia! If this is a Logia wind-type fruit, we've struck gold!"

"If we get this fruit, we'll be invincible at sea!"

Even Caesar felt his heart race with anticipation as he flipped through the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia.

If this was truly a Hurricane Fruit, then Caesar wouldn't hesitate—he would eat it himself.

He recalled the battle between Roger and Shiki's fleet.

Back then, Roger had only one ship, whereas the Golden Lion's forces vastly outnumbered him.

Roger's crew had been cornered.

Yet, a sudden storm had devastated Shiki's fleet, turning the tides of battle.

Roger had claimed victory thanks to that storm.

If the Caesar Pirates obtained the Hurricane Fruit, they wouldn't need to rely on luck.

They could create their own storm—an artificial disaster to sink any enemy fleet, Navy or pirate alike.

However—

[109]Superhuman-Type Double-Speed Fruit and Zoan Dog Fruit

As the crew speculated about the fruit's ability, Caesar finally located the correct entry in the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia.

It wasn't a Logia.

It was a Superhuman-type Devil Fruit: the Double-Speed Fruit.

The ability allowed the user to multiply their speed—both their own body and inanimate objects.

Caesar sighed. "This Devil Fruit… it's the Double-Speed Fruit, a Paramecia-type."

The crew's excitement deflated instantly.

Compared to a wind-based Logia, this fruit sounded… underwhelming.

On the Grand Line, Logia users were the dominant force—except for exceptions like Whitebeard's Tremor-Tremor Fruit.

"Don't be so quick to dismiss it," Caesar said. "Just because it's not as powerful as a hypothetical Logia doesn't mean it's useless. In a battle between two equally skilled fighters, if one of them can suddenly move at twice the speed, they hold an enormous advantage."

The crew fell silent, thinking over his words.

Brad, Hades, and the others weren't interested.

But two people—Arnold and Wei Na—were visibly intrigued.

Caesar turned to Wei Na. "What do you think of the Double-Speed Fruit?"

Wei Na crossed her arms in thought. "I specialize in kicking techniques, and my legs are already faster than most pirates'. If I had this fruit, my speed and attack power would increase even further."

Caesar nodded. Wei Na had a point.

In One Piece, Haki allowed warriors to predict and dodge attacks.

But if Wei Na's speed became fast enough—even those with Observation Haki might not be able to react in time.

And speed meant power.

The faster she moved, the harder her attacks would hit.

But… Arnold was also a strong candidate.

Caesar turned to him. "What about you? You seem interested as well."

Arnold hesitated before answering, "The fruit suits me too… but Wei Na could make better use of it in close combat. I mainly fight at a distance."

Arnold was a sniper.

For a marksman, speed was everything.

If he could increase the velocity of his bullets, their power and accuracy would skyrocket.

Faster bullets meant less reaction time for opponents to dodge.

If he could reload, aim, and fire at double the speed—he would be terrifying in battle.

Wei Na, however, suddenly spoke up. "In that case, give the Double-Speed Fruit to Arnold."

Arnold immediately shook his head. "No, no. You need it more. If I stay hidden and fire from afar, speed isn't as crucial for me. But if you're too slow in melee combat, it could cost your life."

"But your ability benefits the whole crew more," Wei Na insisted. "If you can snipe enemies before they reach us, I'll be safe anyway."

As they debated, Caesar made the decision. "Arnold, I agree with Wei Na. If you use the Double-Speed Fruit to snipe faster, you can take down threats before they even react."

With some reluctance, Arnold finally nodded and ate the fruit.
