Censorate (Supervisory Court)

...

Yin Jixue pulled the Demon King aside, actually not wanting him to disturb the old demon.

She had figured it out by now—the Demon King was more of a hindrance than a help, but the helper he found was indeed capable.

She forcibly changed the subject: "Do you think there's a material that can float in the air?"

Lou Zhao smirked: "Just the other day you asked me if there was an energy source, and now you want something that can float. Are you trying to build a sky street?"

Sky street?

That term sounded familiar.

Yin Jixue explained: "No, the energy source is for street lighting. Don't you think it's unsafe for the roads inside and outside the city to be pitch black at night?"

Lou Zhao looked puzzled: "Streetlights? Then why use magic crystals? Luminous pearls would work just as well."

Yin Jixue sighed: "Don't you think using luminous pearls would be overkill?"

Suddenly, the old demon chimed in: "Niece-in-law, I think I can make what you're looking for."

Yin Jixue immediately forgot about the Demon King and huddled with the old demon, whispering excitedly.

Lou Zhao couldn't get a word in.

Yin Jixue's face flushed with excitement: "Yes, that's exactly what I need! Can you make it?"

No wonder he was the Demon King's uncle—he understood her immediately. It was a waste of talent to have him stuck in a glass factory.

"Just wait, you'll see it tomorrow."

Yin Jixue smiled, her eyes curving into crescents: "No rush, take your time." Tomorrow, they will have streetlights!

Hmph, not so impressive after all, Lou Zhao thought, turning his head away.

She smiled so beautifully at others, but why was she so harsh with him?

A small head suddenly popped up in front of him: "Are you mad?"

"The Demon King doesn't get mad!" Are you going to comfort me or not?

"Mad?" Yin Jixue leaned in closer. She was so close that Lou Zhao could feel her breath on his chest. This girl was oddly warm.

He lifted Yin Jixue into the air, holding her at arm's length: "Don't get so close!"

Wow, trying to kill her, huh?

Yin Jixue cleared her throat: "Is there a chance that I'm a fragile human?"

Lou Zhao: "Why do you say that?"

Yin Jixue deadpanned: "Because you almost strangled me to death."

"Pfft." The old demon burst out laughing at the worst possible moment.

Lou Zhao, embarrassed and angry, snapped: "Old man, focus on your work! At your age, stop eavesdropping everywhere!"

He turned back to Yin Jixue with concern: "Is your neck okay?"

Yin Jixue waved it off: "It's fine, but if you keep this up, you might go through a lot of queens."

Lou Zhao frowned: "Don't talk nonsense. You're the only queen."

To ensure the demon citizens could ride the bus sooner, Yin Jixue took the Demon King away.

"You should shine somewhere else. Building cars isn't your thing," Yin Jixue said earnestly.

The Demon King wasn't so easily fooled: "You just think I'm in the way. You said I could do it."

Yin Jixue: "If that's what you think, I can't help it."

So annoying! The Demon King paced around his Foreign Affairs office. Why did that old guy get all the respect?

It was just streetlights—he could do it too!

That night, after work, eerie glowing orbs appeared on the roads outside the city. They varied in size and floated around unpredictably. Even the bravest demon citizens were nervous walking along that road.

Fortunately, the orbs didn't attack.

Finally reaching the city gates, the demon citizens breathed a sigh of relief. Someone spotted the Demon King.

With the Demon King present, everyone rushed to report: "Your Majesty! There are will-o'-the-wisps on the road. Maybe the demon beasts are coming down from the mountains!"

Lou Zhao's expression turned serious: "Will-o'-the-wisps?"

"Yes, yes! Those floating lights on the road—super scary!"

Lou Zhao's face darkened.
