Chapter 80 - Chapter 80: The Little Heirs’ Map (2)

The map still glowed faintly, golden ink humming with restrained magic.

They had reached the final stages.

Delicate, layered, and precise. This was spellcraft at its most intricate.

"The search function needs intent-based magic," Nero said, stepping back from the parchment.

"Lilith, Ember, you'll lead this one."

The two girls moved to opposite corners of the map.

Lilith began etching focus runes with measured precision, while Ember's strokes were bolder, her magic crackling playfully around her wand.

Nero activated his Raven Eyes again, watching the weave of magical threads as they curved and layered around the map's perimeter.

"Ready?" he asked.

They nodded.

"Reperio Nomen."

The command echoed across the Room of Requirement.

The parchment shivered once, then stilled, its glow deepening to a rich silver-blue.

"Let's test it," Nero said, still watching the lines of magic settle.

"Severus Snape," Ember said, clear and precise.

A crimson dot blinked into existence deep within the dungeons.

"There he is," Alaric muttered. "Probably preparing to assign us essays just for existing."

Ember grinned. "Or just glaring at the air. You know, in case we're nearby."

Soft laughter passed around the table, but Nero's eyes remained focused.

"Next is the Temporal Trace. Time-bound detection magic. This one's more volatile. Everyone, place your wand tips on the floor."

They crouched, pressing their wands gently against the cold stone. The castle felt still, waiting.

Nero took a breath. "Vestigia Temporis Revela."

The magic surged instantly...

A low vibration thrummed beneath their feet.

Pale-blue light surged upward from the stone, branching into the parchment like roots threading through ancient soil.

The room dimmed around them as the map glowed brighter, and one by one, trails of light began to unfurl, faint, silvery-blue footprints tracing forgotten paths through the castle.

Each step shimmered with a ghostly resonance, like echoes caught in time.

Some moved fast, as if running. Others paced in circles, or vanished mid-step.

Lilith's eyes widened, her voice low. "We're not just seeing where they walked… we're seeing how they moved."

Nero nodded, voice hushed. "Hogwarts remembers. Every footstep. Every heartbeat. This… this is how we make those memories visible."

The trails twisted and glided, winding through moving staircases, disappearing through hidden walls.

For a moment, it was like watching the castle breathe in memory.

Then, gradually, the glow faded into soft pulses.

The footprints settled into faint threads, stable, trackable.

"Final function," Nero said, straightening. "Hidden passage detection. We'll need the castle's help."

They returned their wands to the map.

"Aperi Occultus Iter."

A jolt of raw magic surged through the parchment. The ink flared.

Faint, dotted lines materialized, revealing hidden tunnels and passageways embedded in the very bones of the castle.

Some stretched into places even the Marauders had never recorded.

A long silence followed.

"...We did it," Nero said, his voice quiet and strained with relief.

But it wasn't over yet.

Lilith's gaze shifted to the silver rings resting nearby. "The map is ready. Now the rings."

Each ring gleamed beneath the ambient light, gemstones polished, their colors unmistakable: ember-red, emerald green, sapphire blue, and golden amber.

"They were made for communication," Alaric murmured. "But now…"

"Now they'll be something far more refined," Nero said, picking up his own ring. It hummed faintly against his palm, as though aware of what was to come. "The map will remain bound to the parchment, hidden from view. But these rings will be our keys."

"So the rings tap into the map?" Alaric asked.

"Not directly," Nero explained. "The map's enchantments stay sealed. We'll forge a link, a magical echo. A projection system, tied to us alone."

"Like a private scrying interface," Lilith said, catching on.

"Exactly. But anchored through a nexus spell that merges the five primary enchantments: Auto-Cartographus, Hominem Revelio, Nomen Lux, Vestigia Temporis Revela, and Aperi Occultus Iter."

He placed the rings onto the glowing parchment.

Each one landed with a soft chime, their gemstones pulsing in sync with the map's magic.

"Once we create the nexus, we'll bind the rings individually. They'll only respond to our magical signatures. That, plus a verbal command, something personal."

"Cool passwords, basically," Ember said, smirking.

Nero gave a short laugh. "Something like that."

They raised their wands.

"Cartographus Nexus Vinculum!"

Threads of silver magic erupted from the parchment, connecting the rings to the map with an audible crackle.

The lines of the map flared, then pulsed, in perfect rhythm with the heartbeat of the castle.

The gemstones absorbed the magic slowly, glowing with a steady internal light.

The air stilled. The map, the rings, and the castle were now linked.

"Phase one is complete," Nero said. "Let's bind them."

He picked up his ring again, cradling it in his palm.

"The map recognizes our magical signatures, but recognition alone isn't enough. It needs clarity. Intent. A spoken phrase to focus the enchantment."

He looked up. "The words don't need to be fancy, but they must be something you'll always remember."

Ember didn't hesitate. "Let's cause some chaos."

Her red gem sparked with wild energy, crackling once before settling into a steady glow.

Lilith followed, her voice calm but edged. "'The cunning find the way.'"

Green light flickered, steady and sure.

Alaric smiled. "Nature sees all."

The amber gemstone pulsed in quiet agreement.

Nero tapped his own ring with his wand. "The mind is the key."

Blue light shimmered outward, cool and controlled.

One by one, the rings accepted the commands.

One by one, the heirs sealed their connection.

Nero slid his ring onto his finger. "Now… let's test them."

Ember tapped hers, grinning. "Let's cause some chaos."

A miniature map shimmered to life in the air before her, revealing the dungeons and a glowing dot labeled Severus Snape.

She laughed. "This is going to be so useful."

"Try not to abuse it," Lilith said dryly.

"No promises," Ember replied, already leaning closer.

Nero glanced at the glowing parchment and then to his friends. "It needs a name."

They exchanged a glance.

"The Little Heirs' Map," Ember suggested, grin wicked.

"Because we're heirs?" Alaric asked.

"And because it sounds cheeky."

Lilith rolled her eyes, but there was a smile tugging at the corner of her lips. "Fine."

Nero lifted his wand and drew a delicate arc above the parchment.

"Heredis Tabula Vivens."

The final enchantment resonated deep within the castle's ancient foundations.

The spell was both declaration and binding charm.

Silver light spilled across the parchment like ink in water, embedding itself into every line and layer. The map pulsed once, twice, and then went still.

The rings glowed in perfect harmony.

Crimson, emerald, sapphire, and amber.

A soft breath escaped Nero's lips. "We did it."

Ember clapped him on the shoulder, eyes gleaming. "Now," she said, voice low and dangerous, "let's go find some trouble."

And thus, the Little Heirs' Map was born.

A legacy sealed in silver, ink, and intent.
