Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

Ayla took off the blazer and the scent was more than alluring, her mind worked. From Derrick to Xavier.

Was it a coincidence that he had seen them, he had taken pity on her. Did he remember her? No, or else he would have said.

No, Claire had interrupted her before they could speak.

Well, she would have to see how everything would unfold when Monday morning came, and that she dreaded.

Monday morning came and Ayla had washed his blazer, how was she going to return and thank him?

She felt too shy and embarrassed at the same time but most of all, did not want to be alone with him, one on one.

"Ayla, is that for Xavier?" Carrie asked her.

She nodded, "Yes, I have to return it to him."

"I will do it." She turned to Claire their senior.

She nodded, "Thank you."

She handed it to her and carried on with her work.

"This week you will all have individual interviews with the boss, to see how you're doing and if you can handle the pressure. Don't let me down as what you do, reflects on me." Said Claire during the conference.

All the interns were determined to make a good first impression and some had ulterior motives.

There was an air of excitement and all she felt was dread. During the week, every time they called a name, she would feel her heart beat fast.

"Ayla, your turn for the interview."

It was Thursday afternoon, and she got up hastily. She followed Claire to the top floor,

"Don't let me down."

"Of course," Ayla replied.

"Try to not shake and stutter, you work well."

"Thank you so much, Claire."

"Go in."

She walked in, and Claire closed the door, she jumped a bit.

"Afternoon Sir." She stuttered a bit, well that one was right out the window, she had already failed dismally.

Great start, she was already beyond nervous.

"Sit."

Ayla sat down, "Thank you, Sir."

He looked at her, "Ayla."

She nodded quickly, "Yes Sir."

"You look familiar."

Oh shit! So he did remember her, quick, think of a lie, "I do at times get confused with. I blend in so well, so whenever someone blends in, they remember me. I mean they get reminded of me."

She hit herself in the head, that did not make any sense whatsoever.

"How so?" Xavier replied coldly.

Was he angry with her, "I...…I...."

"You what?"

She needed to pull herself together,

"I just meant, I might remind you of someone."

"My memory is quite sharp."

"True but I'm sure you meet a lot of people on work trips, employees, and such."

"I know whom I meet Ayla."

"I also wanted to thank you for the help with my ex and I deeply apologize Sir, that will never happen again."

"Then why did you go outside? Did you want him to follow you?"

"No, not at all! I didn't know that he had noticed me."

"Why let him talk to you like that?"

She looked up as he seemed to be annoyed,

"I….it's just that, he is Derrick and......"

"His your ex, does that mean you can't stand up for yourself."

"I know that I caused you a lot of trouble that night, I'm sorry for how Derrick was rude to you Sir."

"Don't make this about me Ayla, this is about you."

"I know. I just feel horrible for putting you through that."

"I have met people like your ex, this is nothing new to me."

"I see, but thank you regardless."

"There is something else I have to discuss about."

"Yes Sir?"

"Back to the familiarity point."

She nodded,

"Does the name Kelsey ring a bell to you?"
