Chapter 13 - Jealousy Trap

The next morning, Haider Evans woke up drowning in the sunlight.

He reached out to turn off the alarm clock beside his pillow. As a kind of a nocturnal animal, even though he came back home at 2 a.m. last night, he was still full of energy at 8 a.m.

He went out to the kitchen to get some water to quench his thirst, but he was stunned for a moment when he saw the sandwich and milk placed on the dining table.

With a glimmer in his eyes, he picked up a note under the plate.

"I'll head to work first. I'm sorry about last night. This is my compensation for you. And, thank you for the clothes you prepared, but you shouldn't have spent so much money on me. The clothes are too expensive."

"Hah!" Haider chuckled. "Liar, you liked it very much."

He stretched his body lazily, pulled out his chair and sat down. The myriad of emotions in his eyes finally condensed into a stream of light and turned into a shallow smile. He opened his mouth and took a bite of the sandwich with a perfect combination of color, aroma, and taste, and closed his eyes contentedly.

"It's been five years. I really miss the taste!"

Avril woke up very early this morning. When she arrived at the company, most of her colleagues had yet to show up. She yawned and sent a message to Haider.

"Why did you suddenly organize a company trip?"

Just now, Lina called and told Avril that Haider decided that the company's management team would go on a trip this weekend.

At that moment, Haider was driving. After receiving the message, he chuckled and replied to her with a voice message. His voice sounded lazy in the early morning.

"Morning, the breakfast is very delicious and it put me in a good mood. So I decided to pass on this good mood to everyone. Did you feel it?"

Avril's heart began to race the moment she heard his magnetic voice.

"Was he afraid that I would feel uncomfortable if he invited me to travel with him, so he arranged a group trip?' Avril thought.

"Smack!" A hand slammed heavily on Avril's desk once again, shocking her so much that she nearly jumped in fright.

"Avril! Who are you texting? Is it Haider?" Angie looked at Avril with an unfriendly look on her face.

Avril raised her hand to her forehead with a helpless look on her face.

"Why is it you again?"

She had to slam her desk every day. Avril was afraid that one day there would be a palm print on her desk.

"Are you sending a text message to seduce Haider?" Angie's face was full of anger. Haider was her boyfriend before, but now he became Avril's husband by mistake. Why should everything that she fancied ultimately end up in Avril's hands?

How could Angie allow this to happen?

Last night, Angie sent a text message and asked Haider to come out to meet her, but Haider told her that he was going to accompany his wife at home. Of course, Angie knew who this wife was.

"Keep your mouth shut." Avril stood up and whispered into Angie's ear.

"It's none of your business."

"Hrmph! Anyway, there's nothing you can do! You slutty woman!" Avril thought.

Angie's eyes flashed with anger and her face was distorted.

"You are shameless! He is my boyfriend!"

"Really? Aren't you thinking too much?" Avril said. Haider was now hers!

Avril clicked on the dialog box in front of her. She pressed the voice message button, cleared her throat, and said in an extremely sweet voice, "Honey, where are you? You've specially arranged a company trip for me? I'm so touched! I love you! Hugs and kisses!"

Angie listened to her pettish words and trembled with anger.

"You b*tch! How dare you seduce him in front of me! Shame on you!"

Angie had always thought that she could bully Avril as she liked, just like she used to.

But she didn't know that the reason she was able to deceive Avril in the past was that Avril trusted her. Now that Angie's true colors had been exposed, Avril would not allow Angie to manipulate her. Avril stared back at Angie coldly.

"Keep your ugly face to yourself. Right now, I still have mercy on you. Don't blame me for being unkind if you continue pestering me!"

Hearing Avril's words, Angie looked at her with hatred, and a hint of malice flashed in her eyes.

"What's there for Avril to be proud of? Is it just because she has a pretty face? If I ruin Avril's beautiful face, then what right does she have to be so arrogant?" Angie cursed in her heart. The rest of the day went smoothly.

After Angie left in the morning, she did not find fault with Avril again.

The world returned to its peaceful state.

Avril paced around Haider Evans's car after she got off work with a nervous look on her face. After she confirmed that there weren't any acquaintances around her, she opened the car door quickly and got into the car. She looked exactly like a little squirrel who was guilty of something.

Haider lowered his head and said with a smile, "When will you dare to get into my car aboveboard?" Avril heaved a long sigh of relief.

After spending the past two days together, she was no longer as restrained as how she had been in the past few days. She leaned against the car seat in a relaxed manner.

"President, we're just friends now. There will be many rumors spreading if someone sees me getting on your car every day!"

Hearing this, Haider's eyebrows furrowed. It was true that he needed to think about it. He wasn't being very considerate of her predicament. To others, she was a woman who frequently got on the boss's car, and such behavior would be looked down upon by others. He sighed softly.

"I'm sorry." Avril was surprised,

"What?"

"I've never thought about it. I'll pay attention to it in the future and try to not make it difficult for you." Haider said.
