Chapter 7 - The air of New York

NEW YORK AIRPORT

The moment Seraphina stepped onto the smooth, tiled floor of JFK Airport, a wave of cold apprehension settled over her. The scent of coffee, disinfectant, and distant rain filled the air, mixing with the steady murmur of travelers hurrying past. The overhead announcements echoed through the vast terminal, but she barely registered them.

She was back.

She adjusted her sunglasses, a futile shield against the ghosts of her past, and tightened her grip on the handle of her designer carry-on. Next to her, Olivia walked with effortless energy, scrolling through her phone as she coordinated business calls.

They moved toward the private exit, where their driver was supposed to meet them. But Olivia's sharp gaze flickered toward Seraphina as they walked.

"Are you okay?" she asked, her voice softer than usual.

Seraphina inhaled slowly, keeping her expression unreadable. "Yes."
