Chapter 56: Unshaken, Unbroken
The car ride back to the Leng estate was quiet, but the air carried an undercurrent of silent understanding. Jiang Yuixen watched her children with a small, knowing smile. Even if no words were exchanged, she could see that something had shifted.
"Xue'er," she finally spoke, her tone gentle. "Did Gu Zeyan say something unpleasant to you?"
Qingxue, who had been gazing out the window, finally turned her head slightly. "He overestimates himself."
Qiuhan, sitting beside her, narrowed his silver-blue eyes. "Did he threaten you?"
At that, Leng Yuxian, who had been scrolling through his phone, finally looked up. His usually indifferent expression turned sharp. "He did." It wasn't a question.
Qingxue didn't confirm or deny it, but that in itself was an answer.
Leng Jiuhan scoffed. "Gu Zeyan thinks he can pressure Xue'er? He must be delusional."
"Not just delusional," Leng Haoyu added, adjusting his sleeves. "He's getting too bold."
Jiang Yuixen's smile didn't fade, but the warmth in her eyes cooled. "I had no intention of interfering in your matters, Xue'er, but if Gu Linyuan's son has forgotten his place, perhaps I should remind him."
"There's no need," Qingxue said simply. "He's not worth my time."
Yichen grinned. "That's right, our little princess is too good for him."
But Leng Yuxian didn't smile. He tapped his fingers against his armrest, deep in thought. "Gu Zeyan is dangerous, but he won't act recklessly unless provoked. The fact that he made a move today means he's getting impatient."
Qiuhan, who had been silent, finally spoke. "If he tries something again, I'll handle it."
His tone was cold and absolute, leaving no room for discussion.
Qingxue glanced at her twin, a rare flicker of warmth in her usually emotionless eyes. "No need," she said softly. "He won't get the chance."
At that moment, the car pulled into the grand Leng estate. The gates opened automatically, revealing the sprawling mansion and carefully maintained gardens.
As they stepped out, a butler immediately greeted them. "Madam, young masters, young miss, welcome home."
Jiang Yuixen nodded gracefully, but just as she was about to step inside, she paused. "Oh, I nearly forgot." She turned to her husband, who had just stepped out from another car.
Leng Zhen, the patriarch of the Leng family, was as imposing as ever. His gaze swept over them, pausing briefly on Qingxue. "Did something happen?"
Jiang Yuixen's lips curved. "Nothing much. Just a few restless wolves sniffing around our daughter."
Leng Zhen's expression remained unreadable, but the sharpness in his eyes deepened. "Is that so?"
Qingxue met his gaze head-on, unfazed. "It doesn't matter. I won't be hunted."
Leng Zhen studied his daughter for a long moment before giving a small nod. "Good."
And just like that, the conversation ended.
But as the Leng family walked inside, one thing was clear—no matter how many wolves gathered, Leng Qingxue would never bow.
