Chapter 13 - Escape Plan

The book was a journal I usually wrote my plans down in and organized everything.

I opened up the folded piece of paper which was a map of the continent.

I opened the journal and went to the page where I had jotted down the issues I would have to deal with for my escape plan. Since I couldn't defeat my father here in the castle, not on my own at least, I planned to leave the Teneb kingdom and perhaps get help from the defeated wolf packs. Of course that wasn't going to be easy I was the enemy to them after all.

There were 5 things I had to consider for my escape plan; hiding my scent, escaping the castle, food and water outside, shelter, and making contact with another wolf pack.

I had just dealt with the first issue and I had already dealt with the third and fourth issues. I had done lots of research on the various southern territories. I knew the type of terrain to expect if I left. I knew the different types of vegetation and fauna that grew out there and where to find them. I could use my knowledge of different plants and herbs to find food and make medicine if I needed it. I could hunt and catch a rabbit or something as well for food. I also knew where all the rivers and water sources were.

As for shelter, I planned to take shelter anywhere I could. I wasn't picky or worried about that. As long as I had my map with me, I felt I would be able to survive out there despite being a sheltered princess all my life.

So all I had left to worry about now was how I was going to discretely leave the castle, and how I was going to make contact with a pack.

However, I planned to worry about contacting other wolf packs once I had successfully escaped. Now the castle was heavily guarded. I was going to have to find a way to get past them.

I began to brainstorm ideas from my desk, but nothing in particular came to mind. I then heard movement from outside my door. My nose perked up as I sniffed to sense who it was. That was the smell of the castle guards on patrol.

My head turned to the window and looked into the pitch-black night. It was getting really late. It would be best if I put away my things before the guards found it strange that I wasn't switching off my lamp. So, I returned my materials to my closet and went to bed.

The following day I planned to look around the castle and think about how I was going to escape the castle. I was prepared for the day as usual with Maya overseeing everything as my head maid. The maid who had asked me for help kept her eyes down and didn't look my way as she tended to me. I wanted to ask her how the situation was with her brother, but Maya was watching me with a narrowed eye like the day before. I felt she was telling me I shouldn't. Had Maya also told the servant not to talk to me? She must have. That woman I sighed to myself internally.

After getting ready I went to have breakfast and then afterward went on my walk around the castle. I tried to formulate my plan on how I was going to escape. I hoped l that by taking a look around the castle I could spot something like a passageway or something I could use. Whilst I knew the castle very well as I had lived here my whole life, perhaps there was something I never considered to escape using.

As I walked around the castle, I quickly remembered why I hated moving around too much and preferred to stay in my quarters. I saw some slaves being punished by some castle guards. They were tied to a pole and being whipped in the castle gardens. The slaves were already weak and skinny and then whipped on top of that.

I then moved to another wing of the castle as I turned a corner I saw a guard

"If you don't want to get whipped then you'll come to my room tonight," a guard said to the terrified servant. He had cornered her and seemed to be pressing his body into hers.

I walked past and guard saw me and pulled away from the servant. He then bowed before me and so did the servant.

My father encouraged the castle guards to mistreat the slaves in anyway they saw fit. Unfortunately, that often meant they violated them.

The guard then walked away, acting like nothing had happened. Even if the guard had was in the right about what he was requesting the maid to do. He was currently on duty so he shouldn't have been doing that.

"I want you to come to my room to attend to me tonight with my servants," I blurted out to the servant.

Wide eyed and confused the servant looked at me but she accepted the order with a slight look of relief.

Even If I prevented her from seeing him today, he would call her tomorrow or another time. I knew that. Still, I wanted I wanted to do something, anything I could.

Everywhere I turned there seemed to be something going on. This castle was pure chaos. When I got to the army wing, I noticed many of the army wolves moving around and preparing for something. I saw my father ahead making orders and Tagryn was beside him. My father had said he was planning an attack soon. As I watched them, I brought a hand to my chin and contemplated for a moment.

I soon finished my walk and returned to my room where I spent my time for the rest of the day. I had lots of spare time as a princess. Father encouraged us to enjoy our time and do

Later that evening when I was prepared for bed by my servants, I noticed the servant I had asked to come was present. Maya was glaring at me. Probably wondering what that was about. Once I was prepared for bed all the servants left but I noticed Maya stay behind.
