Chapter 62 - Chapter 62: Trash Slime-chan

Chapter 62: Trash Slime-chan

This so-called [Trash Slime] isn't entirely useless, despite its name. Though, let's be honest, it's still pretty trashy.

Regardless, it does have some utility.

With attack and defense stats both at zero, it's clearly not cut out for duels right now. However, its special skill, [Enhanced Gastric Acid], is obviously perfect for dealing with garbage.

Dark thought it should be called a "Trash Bin Slime" rather than just a "Trash Slime"!

"Magic Summon!"

After summoning the Trash Slime with a basic spell, Dark attempted to enhance it using [Pride I], [Pride II], and [Bliss I].

He soon realized that the Trash Slime's overly simple brain structure likely prevented it from exhibiting any signs of "pride" or "bliss."

Furthermore, its intelligence level didn't show any noticeable improvement.

Standard magical theory suggests that the average intelligence of a magic spirit is around 2.0.

But this Trash Slime's intelligence seemed to fluctuate between 1.0 and 2.0 barely smarter than a paramecium.

It could understand commands, but its reactions were incredibly slow.

There felt like a delay of over a thousand milliseconds.

Could there have been some error in the alchemy process?

But when Dark recalled the cat fur and fingernails he'd tossed into the No. 1 Alchemy Array, he quickly dismissed the thought.

Magic technology, built upon the foundation of alchemy, naturally inherited a certain degree of the "principle of equivalent exchange."

As for the parts that didn't quite balance out...

Magic practitioners often joked that those were "stolen from the Gate of Truth."

Well, that's just how it was.

...

Next, Dark conducted an experiment based on the basic alchemy formula for [Beast-Type - Grass Attribute].

This time, however, the experiment completely failed, rendering the blank magic card useless.

Could it be because the "Beast-Type" didn't align with the cat fur from the Catnip Grass?

In any case, he summoned the Trash Slime to clean up the remaining residue.

All in all, tonight's efforts were quite fruitful.

The Trash Slime was incredibly convenient for handling garbage. From now on, he wouldn't even need to take out the trash!

After organizing his experimental data, Dark decided to continue his experiments the following night.

With that, he drifted off to sleep with a smile.

...

10:00 PM.

In Saint Marian, where nighttime entertainment was scarce, students especially first-years usually didn't stay up too late.

The common room was almost deserted by 9:30 PM.

Most students preferred to move their activities to their dorm rooms rather than linger in the common area.

In the Knight House common room, the candlestick above the crossed greatsword decoration still held a burning flame.

It was the unique, bright glow of a magic candle, illuminating the room with a gentle light that wasn't harsh on the eyes.

In the corner of the common room, Emma was likely one of the last to head back to her dorm.

She typically moved from the library to the common room around 9:00 PM.

This was perhaps her last act of defiance against complete social isolation.

Dark, on the other hand, was entirely different in this regard.

By the time the common room was empty, Emma pouted, gathered her books, and went up the stairs to the second floor.

The boys' and girls' dorms were on opposite sides of the building.

Although the staircases connected, there were separate stairs on the left and right of the first floor, so boys and girls usually used their respective sides.

After Emma left, the candle flame automatically extinguished.

But not long after, the flame reignited!

As she reached the second floor, Emma suddenly noticed a flicker of light downstairs and couldn't help but feel curious.

Who would be going downstairs at this hour?

Her curiosity was actually quite strong.

So, she tiptoed back down and peeked around the corner of the staircase, just in time to see Virt sneaking out of the common room!

"Virt Gold? Where is he going so late?"

Emma considered following him but quickly dismissed the thought. What did it matter to her where he went?

So, she simply returned to her dorm with her books.

...

Meanwhile, on the opposite staircase, another person quietly descended.

Robert Broheim!

After washing up, Robert had lain in bed for a long time, unable to fall asleep. He considered going to Virt's room for another round of games.

But this time, he happened to see Virt sneaking out of the dorm.

Driven by a feeling he couldn't quite explain, Robert remained silent.

He had noticed Virt sneaking out at night more than once.

Whenever he asked about it, Virt would always avoid the question.

All Robert knew was that it had something to do with the [Forbidden Love] card Virt possessed.

"How can friends keep secrets from each other?"

Unlike Emma, Robert quietly followed him.

...

The night passed without incident.

Sunlight broke through the darkness, and Saint Marian soon awoke to a new morning.

Dark woke up with a start, suddenly struck by an idea.

"If I put the Trash Slime on my face, could it suck out the dirt from my pores? Like a face mask?"

He tested it on his hand first and found that it seemed to work a little.

So, he actually placed the Trash Slime on his face, leaving only his nose and mouth uncovered.

The Trash Slime slowly wriggled, feeling slightly cold and a bit ticklish.

But after five minutes, when he removed it, he suddenly felt incredibly refreshed!

"What the!"

Dark watched as the dirt and grime from the semi-transparent Trash Slime's surface transferred to a small core inside, forming a tiny black dot.

Then, the Trash Slime used its [Enhanced Gastric Acid] skill to quickly digest the black dot.

"Is this what they mean by a trash-free magic spirit? I'm in love!"

After washing his face, Dark looked at his reflection and felt like his pores had shrunk, and his skin had become smoother.

"How come no one has discovered such a useful magic spirit before? Or is my Trash Slime different from the others?"

Planning to look it up in the library at noon, Dark packed his textbooks and left the dorm.

The DemiDevimon brought him breakfast, and today's basket even included a copy of the "Great Sage Daily".

Clearly, the halfling chefs had grown fond of Dark, the master of the familiar, by extension.

As Dark read the newspaper to catch up on kingdom affairs, he enjoyed his meal of sausage, eggs, and a milkshake.

By the time he finished reading, breakfast was over.

Usually, he would simply place the dishes back in the basket for the DemiDevimon to return.

But that wasn't the most efficient approach.

Today, he finally had an automatic dishwasher.

Trash Slime-chan quickly sucked away the leftover food and milk stains from the dishes, leaving them sparkling clean.

When the DemiDevimon returned the basket, the halfling chefs were visibly surprised, sensing that the son of the Valkyrie had matured a little more.

Around 7:15 AM, on his way to Dueling Class, Dark ran into Virt, who was frantically searching for something.

He was puzzled, but Virt ran off too quickly for him to catch up.

At about 7:20 AM, a scream suddenly echoed from a corner of the castle.

"Ah!"

And so, a new day began with excitement.
