It's been a week since the company's went live and Alyss has been swamped with work. She didn't think it would be a problem if she had Typhon's help. Thinking back Alyss couldn't help but think how naive she was being.
Currently Alyss is taking a relaxing walk with Nivia in the city. It's a bright afternoon and sound of a bustling city full of life.
The two walk to a small cafe and walked in finding a seat Nivia hopped up on Alyss's lap. Not a minute later she was approached by a waitress. Her attention was very clearly on Nivia which made Alyss chuckle.
"She won't bite you know." Alyss said with mirth.
The waitress looked at Alyss and in return she nodded, reaching her hand out and she started rubbing the white fur on Nivia's head. Nivia started to what felt like a purr clearing enjoying the attention.
"Her fur is so soft." The waitress said.
Alyss couldn't help but smile at the situation. After a few seconds the waitress stopped petting Nivia and handed over a menu which Alyss thanked her for. As Alyssa was going through the options she started to play with Nivia's ears.
While looking through the menu she felt a small prickle on the back of her head. As if in a second sense she subconsciously knew someone was staring at her. Turning her head to look around she didn't see anything out of the norm. That was until there was movement in a nearby alley.
Just standing in the entrance of the alley a tall figure in a long black coat with a hood hiding his face all she could see were two red eyes looking at her.
She felt like she was being appraised like an item. Looking directly at the man her eyes glowed for a second turning cyan. What they revealed was pale skin with male features under his hood.
Alyss began forming suspicions on what this man is but she has currently no true evidence besides him being a creep. That's when Nivia started shifting around and caught sight of the men and her fur began standing on end as she became defensive.
Seeing the usually excitable kitsune's expression turn cautious Alyss doubts and suspicions turned into confirmation. 'That's a vampire.'
Alyss turning back to the menu thought to herself. 'If he messes with me I'll hunt them down if he leaves me be I'll let him live.'
She begins petting Nivia to calm her down knowing she's just being protective. It took a few minutes before she laid down in her lap and began to fall asleep. At that time the same waitress from earlier came up to Alyss.
The waitress grabbed her pen and small notepad out of her apron pocket. "So have you decided what you want yet?"
Nodding Alyss told her what she wanted and a minute later the waitress came back with a plate of cheesecake and a cup of coffee.
_ _ _
Walking out of the cafe Nivia and Alyss begin their walk home. As time passes she can sense she's being followed. Knowing this is the man in the alley, she frowned slightly. At first she tried shifting through the crowd a bit faster and then slower but she noticed he'd kept the exact same distance and would match her speed.
Wanting to get this over with she took a detour to a nearby construction site that was currently unoccupied. Turning into the construction sight among the walless levels and empty scaffolding she saw him. A man's red eyes standing amongst the shadows.
Alyss had Nivia hop down and then they both blurred from view disappearing from their previous position.
The vampire froze and panicked. She had disappeared and then he felt a huge force smashed into his side throwing him into a wall cracking it. Hearing the soft footsteps he looked up and saw two bright cyan eyes looking back at him. They held no malice, curiosity, or fear. All he saw was a cold indifference.
Shaking, he held his hands up. "Y-you shouldn't be able to do that." He said with a hint of fear.
Alyss looked at him cooly. "Why are you following me?"
He twitched and paled further if that was even possible knowing full well that what he was doing could get him killed now.
He looked away. "I cannot say."
Suddenly there was a loud crack and a scream, his scream. The pain shot up his leg like hot iron, needles prickling at the skin. He knew he messed up but he was a vampire, a proud one at that, why should he be treated this way.
His expression slowly shifted as he went from fearful to livid. "You dare harm me cattle, you are nothing but food but you dare!" He said with as much hate and vitriol he could muster.
Alyss looked at him unimpressed. "Cattle? Food? You know I'm being kind by letting you live. I don't need you alive to get answers." She said in such a cold tone it sent a shiver through his spine.
He looked at her enraged, moving swiftly he attempted to get up and charge at her but before he could move there was a sharp pain in his chest. With every breath a sharp pain and a sense of dread accompanied it. That's when he saw it and arm not of the woman he'd hunted for food but of a monster. Through the black and steel grey of the arms veins of crimson red spread throughout all connected to one massive blade.
She brought him closer as she leaned and whispered in his ear. "I told you I don't need you alive to get answers."
After her words he was quickly lifted up and thrown down and there she stood, her arms shifting to fists with crude spikes poking out here and there. Streams of black and red tendrils came out of her back and then the first fist struck and all went black for the vampire.
As Alyssa stood there absorbing the biomass of the vampire a vivid pain in her head caused her to stumble as she grasped at it. Then flashes of a memory clearly not her own showed a man pale skin and blonde hair eyes shifting with emotion between blue and red. He was preaching about superiority and how they needed more and deserve more. Several more flashes of faces, scripts, and ancient texts but one name stood out La Magra.
Taking a deep breath Alyss caught herself and straightened herself up. She knew this wasn't over, not even close. La Magra, an entity of being able to control and turn people into vampires by just being in their presence. Knowing full well the danger this posed she began thinking of a plan of action.
Before she could get too deep in thought she felt something brush against her leg. Looking down she saw Nivia began rubbing her head on her leg, seemingly worried. Smiling at the kitsune she reached down and picked her up rubbing her head.
"Let's head home." She said smiling.
Getting a small yip in return the two began their small trek home. Unknown to both, a figure sitting behind a desk in a dark warehouse was watching the entire situation.
Whistler replayed the footage with a contemplative gaze. 'He'll want to know.' he thought to himself, replaying the footage for a fourth time.
