Chapter 104 - CHAPTER 103

103 Lin Rouyu's Deadly Rival! A Shaken Team

A total of 142 teams entered the Yurong City Team Battle Competition, divided into four groups: two groups containing 36 teams each and the other two with 35 teams.

The tournament format was straightforward:

1. Preliminaries: Held over two days.

First day:

36 teams → 18 teams advance.

The 9 eliminated teams with the best performance get a second chance, and 3 are reinstated, bringing the total to 12 teams.

Second day:

12 teams → 6 teams advance.

2 more teams are selected from the best-performing losing teams, making it 8 teams in total.

2. Finals: The top 4 teams move forward.

3. Championship: A total of 16 trainers from the top 4 teams will compete for the title.

---

Qin Yun scanned the tournament schedule on his PokéNav and spoke calmly:

"We're set for the seventh match."

The order of battles wasn't sequential by team number. Instead, it was randomized to prevent teams from predicting matchups too early.

"It's just a standard match, nothing to stress over. Relax, listen to some music, and stay focused."

With that, Qin Yun pulled out his PokéGear, inserted his Snorlax-themed headphones, and played some music.

His relaxed attitude left his teammates stunned. Shouldn't they be discussing strategies or scouting their opponents' strengths? Instead, Qin Yun seemed completely unbothered.

Lin Rouyu frowned.

"Did you finalize battle tactics last night?"

Everyone shook their heads.

"Did you at least collect data on your opponents?"

Again, no response.

Her expression darkened. "Then what were you doing yesterday?"

"Shopping."

"Watching a movie."

"Playing games."

At that moment, Lin Rouyu felt like she was going to collapse. These guys really did nothing to prepare. What exactly was Qin Yun thinking?

And now, instead of adjusting their plans based on matchups, they were just idly waiting. Was Qin Yun treating this as a vacation?

Lin Rouyu massaged her temples, feeling a deep sense of dread.

She had personally vouched for Qin Yun to the school leadership, confidently claiming that even if they didn't make the top eight, they could at least secure a top-six finish.

If they were eliminated in the first round, her credibility would be ruined.

"At least win one match."

She silently prayed that their first opponent was relatively weak, so Qin Yun's personal strength could carry the team.

Just then, Lin Rouyu's gaze landed on a familiar figure, and her heart skipped a beat.

"No way… she's here?"

---

A Rivalry Rekindled

The woman in question dressed in a form-fitting black dress and silk stockings also spotted Lin Rouyu.

A smirk curled on her lips.

"Well, well. Lin Rouyu?"

Her name was Zhang Rong a former college roommate of Lin Rouyu. But rather than being close friends, they had butted heads constantly.

"Zhang Rong… why are you here?" Lin Rouyu's tone turned sharp.

"Why else? I'm leading a team in the tournament." Zhang Rong folded her arms, her expression playful. "When I saw 'Yongji University' on the team list, I had a feeling you might be involved."

She scanned the team members behind Lin Rouyu, then arched a brow.

"Wait… where are the second-years from your school?"

Lin Rouyu's fist clenched.

She and Zhang Rong graduated the same year, but Zhang Rong had always been one step behind her. Lin Rouyu had secured a position at the prestigious Yongji University, while Zhang Rong ended up at Tianxing University—a lesser-known school in the same academic tier.

Even now, Zhang Rong kept tabs on her, always looking for a chance to one-up her rival.

And now, that smirk on her face…

"Don't tell me your team is made up entirely of first-years?"

Lin Rouyu remained silent, which was enough of an answer.

"Pfft… are you serious?" Zhang Rong's amusement turned into outright laughter.

The gap between first-years and second-years in Pokémon training was huge. Trainers who had 27 months of experience had almost double the training time of those who started just 15 months ago.

Unless a first-year team was filled with exceptional prodigies, they would never stand a chance against upperclassmen.

"Hah, then I guess our first-round victory is already set."

Zhang Rong turned to leave, but not before flashing a triumphant smirk.

Lin Rouyu gritted her teeth, frustration boiling inside her.

She turned to Qin Yun, still casually bobbing his head to the music, and her anger flared.

"The match is about to start!"

Her sharp tone snapped the rest of the team to attention. Even Zhang Haochen, who usually had a confident air, looked nervous.

---

A Crushing Battle

The first match began.

Lin Rouyu watched closely as Team No. 1 entered the battlefield.

One by one, their Pokémon were summoned:

A Metagross whose steel body glowed menacingly under the stadium lights.

A Gengar that disappeared into the shadows, exuding an aura of menace.

A Togekiss, floating gracefully, its wings shimmering with Aura energy.

A Salamence, letting out a powerful roar, wings flaring wide.

A Roserade, elegant yet deadly, its bouquet-like hands releasing a faint toxic mist.

The announcer's voice boomed, highlighting each trainer's ranking and achievements.

Lin Rouyu's heart sank.

"This team is ridiculously strong…"

Meanwhile, their opponents—Team No. 36 weren't pushovers either.

They had three late-stage Elite Pokémon.

Their strongest member's Garchomp was nearly at the Elite peak level.

Even their weakest Pokémon was still mid-tier Elite level.

Yet despite their strength… they were being completely dominated.

The battle lasted less than five minutes.

"Team No. 1 crushed them… they didn't even stand a chance."

Lin Rouyu's fingers tightened around her clipboard.

Even her most powerful team member, Zhang Haochen, wouldn't stand a chance against Team No. 1's weakest member.

For the first time, doubt crept into Zhang Haochen's mind.

"Can we even win one match?"

The gap in strength seemed insurmountable.

Yet, as he glanced at Qin Yun, the team's captain, he was met with the same calm, unwavering expression.

Despite the overwhelming odds, Qin Yun wasn't worried at all.

And for some reason, that gave Zhang Haochen a sliver of hope.
