Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Depression?

Although psychological consultants have an intervention function, most consultants are rarely willing to take on clients diagnosed with "disorders."

They are more willing to meet with clients who are only psychologically sub-healthy, experiencing psychological abnormalities, psychological obstacles, or simply trapped in certain abnormal moods.

Less trouble, and the money comes easier.

Moreover, while depression is quite common now, very few people know it belongs to the kind of disorder that also has a "damaging effect" on the consultant. If the consultant isn't careful, it can be the end of their career.

Then Bald Yang continued shaking his head and said, "That's not all. This client's willingness for consultation is not high; they were brought in by their parents for consultations before. Therefore, after each consultation, they would switch consultants, and there's basically no chance of them becoming a regular client."

The assistant with thick hair showed an even more understanding expression upon hearing this.

This is another nuance for consultants—

A "good" client case should have relatively clear symptoms, have ample communication with the consultant, and have the intention and determination to accept long-term treatment and overcome the illness.

Among these, "clear symptoms" and "ample communication" are parts of the consultant's work. They need to analyze the client and establish a good consultant-client relationship; but the "determination to accept treatment" is the client's part. Consultants should not interfere with the client's own decision out of professional ethics.

Clients determined to accept treatment will purchase long-term courses, attend consultations regularly, and also pay regularly.

Clients without the determination to accept treatment naturally will not pay regularly.

Veteran consultants don't want to take on clients lacking the intention for consultation themselves.

Especially when it comes to depression, even if it's accepted, it's considerably troublesome!

"This case was transferred from another consultation center; many veteran consultants couldn't handle it, so I don't want to take it either," Bald Yang shrugged, "Might as well throw it to someone else."

The thick-haired assistant nodded, then further delved into the topic: "So who are you planning to pass this case to? In this situation, the supervisor probably wouldn't take it either, right?"

If senior consultants don't want it, naturally the supervisor above them wouldn't want it either.

Yet Bald Yang seemed to have already had an idea in mind. He lowered his voice: "What do you think... about the newcomer?"

Looking in the direction Bald Yang pointed, the thick-haired assistant was shocked, isn't this passing the buck?

And not just any passing of the buck.

He instinctively retorted: "Teacher Yang, this is depression. Isn't the newcomer just a consultation assistant? Also, I heard from the boss a couple of days ago... It seems he was studying at Jiangdu University and had an incident during an internship there? That's why he's here..."

Bald Yang was indifferent: "It's not like we're asking him to do long-term intervention; this case is probably just coming here once, what could happen? I've seen his records; he has a Level 3 certification, and he himself has quite a long consultation duration, professionally matched."

Yet the thick-haired assistant seemed a bit more doubtful: "In such a case, shouldn't we at least consult the boss or ask for the supervisor's opinion first?"

Bald Yang impatiently waved his hand: "That's why I came early today, not just to talk to them!"

This statement seemed quite persuasive.

But the thick-haired assistant hesitated and flipped through the schedule in his hand: "But this client scheduled an appointment very early, earlier than the boss and the supervisor usually arrive... How about you just do today's consultation yourself?"

This consultation assistant is a bit too honest. Bald Yang just doesn't want to take on this "one-time" case, and that's why he wants to throw it to Nan Zhubin, isn't it?

Yet before he could answer, a loud "bang" suddenly sounded from a few steps away.

"I'll do it!"

...

This noise and the loud shout startled Bald Yang.

Could it be that this new assistant was eavesdropping and now dares to speak this loudly to an experienced consultant like him?

Bald Yang immediately assumed an angry posture; even his sparse hair bristled like a vulture ready to attack.

However, the next second, Bald Yang saw Nan Zhubin's wide-open eyes.

The young man's dark circles from sleepless nights surrounded his eyes, filled with tired bloodshot veins, yet they shone with an excited light;

Even someone with no expression analysis skills could clearly discern two words from that light: greedy, hungry.

Like a lion starved for three days and nights.

The middle-aged consultant had a sudden illusion, recalling several mental patients he had once dealt with; his bristled hair suddenly softened.

"Xiao Nan, why... why are you shouting so loudly?"

"Teacher Yang." Nan Zhubin stepped forward quickly past the chair he had knocked over by standing up too fast, "I want to take on this transferred client!"

Bald Yang was surprised, then delighted.

Before he could react, the assistant behind him spoke out first:

"This is depression!"

The assistant with thick hair clearly knew the stakes and was astonished by Nan Zhubin's courage in volunteering to take the blame.

He should have been siding with Bald Yang, but at the moment couldn't help but remind: "It's a diagnosed depression!"

Bald Yang's previously upturned lips also fell; this was indeed quite a dangerous case.

However, thinking of the receptionist "Lu Jia," and the "Xiao Jia," along with the low-risk description in the file, Bald Yang's face returned to a quite professional smile.

"It's okay, it's not like we're doing formal intervention treatment; it's difficult for this client to stay afterward, probably just this one consultation." Bald Yang gestured magnanimously, "Xiao Nan, you're planning to develop in the direction of a consultant later on, right? This small case is perfect for practice, to accumulate consultation hours, quite suitable."

"—After all, this was Xiao Nan's initiative, and persistence, wasn't it?"

Nan Zhubin, observing Bald Yang's expression, didn't know how much information he received in that instant.

This was an opportunity, not just a simple opportunity to gain a client.

So he quickly put on a smile as well: "Yes, I initiated it, and I insist."

The assistant with thick hair glanced at Bald Yang, then at Nan Zhubin, and murmured with a difficult expression: "How are we going to explain to the boss and supervisor later?"
