Chapter 112: Clues About Dragon Slayer Crystals
"Maybe I should ask the master if he knows where to find Dragon Slayer Crystals."
After watching the duel between Erza and Natsu, George felt a sense of inspiration.
Although Natsu had ultimately lost, the way his Dragon Slayer Magic enhanced his physical abilities had left a deep impression on George.
Erza was strong because she was inherently powerful, and her magical armor further amplified her strength. Natsu's strength, on the other hand, came from the unparalleled enhancement and destructive power of Dragon Slayer Magic.
Moreover, George noticed that even Erza's Flame Empress Armor didn't seem to fully suppress Natsu's Dragon Slayer flames.
While normal fire magic would be reduced to half its power by the Flame Empress Armor, Natsu's Dragon Slayer flames could still unleash at least 80% of their strength.
Considering that other worlds might not have magical armor or weapons, George found himself more inclined toward Dragon Slayer Magic.
Especially since Dragon Slayer Magic allowed the user to consume corresponding elements to enhance their power. He imagined a scenario where, in the future, he might encounter a nuclear attack and, instead of being harmed, he could use Dragon Slayer Magic to absorb the energy and counterattack.
"Reparo!"
Using the Repairing Charm to fix the damaged streets, George returned to the guild with the others.
Three days later, during lunch in the guild hall, George took the opportunity to ask Master Makarov:
"Master, I heard that your grandson, Laxus, became a Dragon Slayer by implanting a Dragon Slayer Crystal?"
"Are you interested in Dragon Slayer Crystals?"
Makarov looked slightly surprised.
George didn't hide his interest and nodded directly:
"Yes, I am. If I could get my hands on a Dragon Slayer Crystal, I'd like to become a Dragon Slayer too."
"Eh? So George, you'd become a Dragon Cat, huh?"
Happy, who was sitting nearby, couldn't help but tease.
This guy loved to tease even more than Lucy.
George paused for a moment, then chuckled and replied:
"You're not wrong."
"Dragon Slayer Crystals are made from the hearts of dragons and are extremely rare treasures.
Years ago, Ivan heard about Selene from me. For Laxus's sake, he searched the entire Ishgar continent but couldn't find a Dragon Slayer Crystal.
I remember he finally managed to buy a Lightning Dragon Slayer Crystal from a mage who came from the continent of Guiltina.
So, I'd advise you not to get your hopes up too high."
Makarov finished his drink and shook his head, offering a word of caution.
Dragons had long become legends, and even if they still existed, they were incredibly rare. Finding one, defeating it, and using its heart to create a Dragon Slayer Crystal was nearly impossible.
"A mage from the continent of Guiltina."
George began recalling the geography books he had read about this world.
This world was called Earthland, and there were four known continents: the East, West, South, and North continents.
The East continent, Ishgar, had over 500 mage guilds and several kingdoms, with the Kingdom of Fiore being just one of them.
The West continent, Alakitasia, was said to be ruled by a unified empire, but it had little interaction with the East continent. Diplomatic relations were almost non-existent, and information and books rarely crossed between the two.
However, occasionally, immigrants from the West continent would come to Ishgar seeking work. Bisca and Gajeel from their guild were both from the West continent.
The South continent was largely unknown. It was said to exist, but no mage had ever found it. It might not even exist.
The North continent, Guiltina, seemed to be related to some kind of century-long quest, but the books didn't provide much detail.
"Who is Selene?"
George didn't ask for more details about Ivan acquiring the Dragon Slayer Crystal. Instead, he changed the subject.
From Mirajane, he knew that Ivan, Makarov's son, had been expelled from the guild for unknown reasons, which had caused tension between Laxus and his grandfather.
Bringing up Ivan now would only stir up unpleasant memories for Makarov.
Since he already had a lead on the Dragon Slayer Crystal, he could always seek out Ivan himself in the future or explore the North continent for more clues once he was stronger.
"Selene, also known as God Serena, is a mage who stands at the pinnacle of the Ten Wizard Saints. He's the leader of the 'Four Heavenly Kings of Ishgar' and has fused eight Dragon Slayer Crystals into his body, allowing him to use eight different types of Dragon Slayer Magic.
However, he disappeared many years ago, and there hasn't been any news about him since."
Makarov replied with a hint of nostalgia.
George's eyes widened:
"Eight Dragon Slayer Crystals!"
He hadn't realized that one could fuse more than one Dragon Slayer Crystal. This made him even more interested in the crystals.
If one could fuse eight, did that mean one could fuse eighteen?
If he could obtain and fuse Dragon Slayer Crystals of all different attributes, wouldn't that mean any magic he used would be Dragon Slayer Magic, and he could consume any elemental magic?
The thought was thrilling.
"What's going on? I feel so sleepy."
Just as George was fantasizing about how to obtain so many Dragon Slayer Crystals, he suddenly felt an overwhelming drowsiness. His psychic abilities instantly activated, dispelling the unnatural sleepiness.
But then he saw the guild's mages collapsing one by one, including the S-class mage Erza.
"It's a sleep spell. Is there an enemy attacking the guild?"
George immediately spread his wings, drew his top-tier wand from his back, and pointed it at Erza.
"Finite Incantatem!"
The strongest in the guild was Master Makarov, who was still awake and had resisted the sleep spell on his own. So, George's priority was to dispel the spell on Erza, the second strongest.
After that, he would move on to Natsu, Gray, and the others.
However, just as he was about to cast the spell, Makarov stopped him:
"George, don't worry. It's not an enemy. It's Mystogan. He doesn't like interacting with people, so he uses sleep magic to knock everyone out."
"S-class mage Mystogan."
George's heart skipped a beat.
He had heard the guild members gossiping about this. While Erza was widely recognized as the strongest female mage in the guild, opinions were divided on who the strongest male mage was.
Some said it was Laxus, others said it was Mystogan—both S-class mages.
Oh, and there was also Gildarts Clive, another S-class mage and the guild's strongest mage.
It was said that this uncle had taken on the infamous century-long quest and hadn't returned to the guild for years.
So, he wasn't included in the discussions about the strongest male mage.
Natsu and Gray had improved significantly over the years and were considered strong contenders, though not quite at the top.
