Chapter 148: Ultimate Magic—I Want to Learn It!

"So this is how powerful light magic can be!"

George watched as Makarov, without even using his signature Giant Magic, held his own against Jose purely with light-based spells. He couldn't help but marvel.

Early-stage light magic wasn't particularly strong offensively—George had relied on the Three Pillar Gods for defense, but his attack spells had always felt lacking. That's why he rarely used light magic for direct combat.

But now, seeing Makarov's techniques, he realized the problem wasn't light magic itself—it was his own lack of mastery and high-level offensive spells. Every spell Makarov cast seemed capable of obliterating a hundred-meter-tall hill.

While George was still processing the sheer scale of the Wizard Saints' battle, the fights below had also erupted in full force.

The aerial duel was too intense to predict, but George felt Makarov had the upper hand—after all, he hadn't even used his signature Giant Magic yet. So, for now, George focused on the battles downstairs.

Erza, Natsu, and Gray were facing Phantom Lord's Element Three, and George doubted they could win easily. He planned to assist if needed—while he couldn't take on an S-Class mage head-on, his wide array of support spells could tip the scales.

But the actual fight quickly proved him wrong.

"Phantom Lord's S-Class mages… seem kinda weak?"

Natsu and Gray, despite not being S-Class themselves, were holding their own against Totomaru and Juvia. They were pressured but far from overwhelmed.

And Erza? She was outright dominating Sol. Without even switching armors, she forced him to rely on his Sand Body evasion just to survive. His rock-based attacks shattered effortlessly against her sword.

At one point, Sol tried exploiting Erza's memories, conjuring illusions of a blue-haired man and children to destabilize her—but even then, he barely managed to stall, never truly threatening her.

"The S-Class trials in Fairy Tail are much stricter than other guilds. Missions at that rank are far more dangerous, so Master ensures only the absolute strongest qualify."

Mirajane whispered to George, noticing his confusion.

"Natsu and Gray are easily S-Class by other guilds' standards—but don't tell them. Master doesn't want them getting arrogant."

"No wonder…"

Everything clicked.

This explained Makarov's confidence in attacking Phantom Lord. In raw power:

- Makarov > Jose

- Natsu/Gray ≈ Phantom Lord's S-Class

- Erza could solo multiple S-Class foes

No wonder Fairy Tail was called the kingdom's strongest guild.

And this wasn't even their full roster—Laxus and Mystogan (both absent) were at least as strong as Erza, while Gildarts (on a century-long mission) was said to rival Makarov himself.

Sure enough, the battles below ended swiftly.

Erza shook off Sol's mental attacks and knocked him out cold. Natsu and Gray defeated their opponents almost simultaneously.

But George's unease grew.

"Where's the fourth Element?"

Aria, their strongest, was still unaccounted for. He couldn't have missed this fight without a reason.

"The children have finished their battles. It's time to end this."

High above, Makarov halted his assault, glaring down at Jose.

"Kneel and surrender, Jose. I'll count to three—this is your last chance."

Truthfully, Makarov could've ended this anytime. He'd dragged the fight out solely to let the younger members gain experience—a rare opportunity for growth.

"You dare mock me?!"

Jose's face twisted in rage. His magic surged violently.

"Soul Absorption!"

Twin colossal specters of darkness materialized, their maws gaping to devour souls.

"One. Two. Three."

Makarov's countdown ended. He clasped his hands—and a gargantuan magic circle, large enough to blanket the entire city, ignited above him.

The sheer radiance alone vaporized Jose's specters before the spell even activated.

"What the hell is that?!"

George's jaw dropped.

He wasn't alone—Natsu, Gray, and every Fairy Tail mage below stared in awe. Even they'd never seen this magic before.

Mirajane smiled.

"This is Master's ultimate spell—created by Fairy Tail's founder. It calls upon sacred light to purge darkness, striking only those deemed enemies. A legendary, one-of-a-kind Ultimate Magic: Fairy Law."

"Light-based Ultimate Magic… I need to learn this!"

George's choice to specialize in light magic suddenly felt like divine providence.

No wonder Makarov trained in light spells—it was all to inherit this legacy.

"MASTER, BEHIND YOU—!"

But just as the guild erupted in excitement, a green-clad, blindfolded man materialized behind Makarov, tears streaming down his face.

"So tragic… so tragic… Now's my chance!Sky Shatter: Annihilation!"

His magic circle flared. Makarov's mana instantly drained—the glowing Fairy Law array above flickered and died.

"Damn it—I got careless!"

Makarov hadn't sensed Aria's presence amidst the battle. Under normal circumstances, one punch would've flattened him—but now, it was too late.

"KILL HIM!"

Jose, still trembling from **Fairy Law's** near-activation, screamed hysterically.

That spell had been existential terror incarnate. Makarov couldn't be allowed to live.
