Chapter 161: Citrus-Scented Ambiance

Since Amy had been an Auror, apart from the Apparition spell, there were actually many other spells George could learn from her.

For example, the Patronus Charm, known as the most powerful defensive spell.

He would be facing Dementors next semester. While he thought his holy light magic might also work against Dementors, it hadn't been tested yet.

The Patronus Charm was called the strongest defensive spell because it could not only block normal magical attacks but also mental assaults, especially against dark creatures like Dementors and Lethifolds.

Additionally, Patronuses could quickly deliver messages for wizards and had some physical attack capabilities.

He'd read in a history book that in ancient Greece, a wizard called Andros conjured a giant Patronus, becoming the most powerful wizard of his time.

People called him "Andros the Invincible."

You could also find information about him on Chocolate Frog cards.

However, the Patronus Charm was even more advanced than Apparition. Few wizards in the magical world could master it, especially the corporeal Patronus.

"That's fantastic! You can come to me for any spells you want to learn in the future. I'll teach you everything I know!"

Hearing that George wouldn't withhold payment, Amy immediately patted her chest and made promises.

At that moment, the door opened, and a witch with long brown hair and brown eyes walked in carrying a bag of French baguettes. She somewhat resembled Sophie Marceau.

"Oh, dear Lina, you're back from work!"

Amy immediately took the bread and hugged the brunette witch.

After separating from Amy, the witch called Lina complained:

"I've told you before—stop running that magic cram school. It's not like I can't support you. Come live here with me..."

*Ahem, Lina, we'll talk about this tonight."

Amy quickly cut off Lina's complaints and pointed at George to introduce him:

"This is the student I mentioned. His name is George.

This is Lina."

"Hello, Miss Lina."

George smiled and nodded at Lina.

He couldn't help but feel that Amy and this Lina didn't seem like just ordinary friends. Maybe he was overthinking it.

Lina quickly walked up to George, bent down to look at him, and greeted him warmly:

"Hello, George. What an adorable boy. I wish I had a child like you."

"Alright, it's almost time for dinner. Lina, did you buy any wine?"

Amy rummaged through the large bag and happily pulled out two large bottles of sherry.

"You know me best!"

Dinner consisted of the roasted lamb leg, cheese, bread, and sherry that Lina had brought back. After eating, George left the two drunken women to their chatter and went out to explore the magical district.

He planned to visit all the bookstores in the French magical district to see if he could find any useful spellbooks.

"There really are quite a few Beauxbatons students."

Walking down the street, George saw many young wizards still wearing their Beauxbatons school uniforms, also strolling around the magical district during their summer break.

After walking the entire length of the avenue, he finally entered the largest magical bookstore on the street.

The store had many books, but George found that few were actually useful—most he had already read.

Hogwarts' library was comprehensive, and combined with the bookstores in Diagon Alley, it already covered about 70-80% of the spellbooks in this world.

"The Legendary Ancient Magic"

After browsing the bookstore for about an hour, he finally found a book that interested him.

This wasn't a spellbook or a theoretical magic text but more like a historical account of magic. However, its mention of ancient magic intrigued him.

Legend had it that during Merlin's time—or even before—the magic wizards used was incredibly powerful, capable of moving mountains, filling seas, and even summoning meteors.

But because casting a single spell could take ten to twenty minutes just to recite the incantation, it gradually fell out of favor, especially after spells like the Disarming Charm and Stunning Spell—which worked quickly—were invented.

Even so, it had to be admitted that ancient magic still surpassed modern magic in certain aspects.

It was said that when Hogwarts, the first wizarding school, was built, it incorporated many ancient magical techniques.

To this day, no other school could match Hogwarts in completely banning all technological devices, remaining unplottable, having extensive Anti-Apparition barriers, and containing countless magical mysteries that still couldn't be deciphered.

"I wonder if this ancient magic is real or not?"

After adding The Legendary Ancient Magic to his purchase list, George couldn't help but ponder.

Actually, he thought ancient magic might truly exist. The "love" magic Lily used on Harry that rebounded the Killing Curse might have been a form of ancient magic.

So might Voldemort's curse on every Defense Against the Dark Arts professor.

Of course, this was just his speculation—proper magical history books never mentioned ancient magic.

If ancient magic really existed, he thought it would be worth learning. While it might not be as practical as modern magic in one-on-one duels, its power was far greater.

Not all battles were straightforward duels—for ambushes or sneak attacks, ancient magic seemed much more practical than modern spells.

By the time he left the bookstore, it was almost 9 PM, yet the streets were still crowded with wizards.

The magical district was different from Diagon Alley—by this time in Diagon Alley, most shops would have closed after customers left, leaving the streets empty except for the occasional dark wizard.

But here, since most wizards lived in the district, many enjoyed evening strolls after dinner, making it even livelier than during the day.

There were also street vendors selling magical cotton candy, magical firecrackers, and wizards performing spells—it felt like a night market from his previous life, just with a magical twist.

After wandering through the night market until about 10 PM, he returned to Lina's apartment.

But the moment he stepped inside, he froze in shock.

"What?"

"Oh! YES!"

The sounds coming from the master bedroom—where Amy and Lina were—made his lips twitch.

The apartment's soundproofing was actually quite good. Normally, he shouldn't have been able to hear anything. But his enhanced physical attributes included particularly sharp hearing.

So some...activities from the master bedroom were still audible.

"French wizards really are as...liberal as French Muggles."

Sighing, he quietly retreated to his small bedroom.

No wonder he'd felt there was something unusual about Amy and Lina's relationship.

Both were quite attractive, yet single at their age.

It all made sense now.
